-chaoren where are you

-someone’s following you, are they after you or your girlfriend?

Kou Chen quickly sent those two texts, and then he put his phone down to pick up the slice of cake to eat.

“Why isn’t he replying?” Huo Ran was a little worried.

“It’s fine, they’re still here anyways,” Kou Chen said. “If they’re in the middle of a conversation right now, they might not even pick up the phone. If you were saying romantic things to me right now, I’d even ignore my dad’s calls.”

“…I really can’t.” Huo Ran rubbed his arms.

“I’m watching them,” Kou Chen said. “We can call if we have to.”

“Mhm.” Huo Ran took a bite of the cake.

Although Kou Chen looked unaffected, Huo Ran still tensed up when he heard that the group had a brick with them. He wasn’t afraid that they would start fighting, seeing as Kou Chen rarely lost in that aspect.

He was scared Kou Chen wouldn’t do anything.

When the topic was brought up that day in Old Yuan’s office, Kou Chen felt pretty bad. Knowing him, he might just suck it up for today and not fight so his dad would believe him.

But he didn’t dare say anything about it. It’s not like he could just tell Kou Chen that he had to fight back if something happens.

“They’re moving,” Kou Chen suddenly put down the cake and grabbed his phone. “I’ll call Chaoren.”

Huo Ran’s scalp tightened, and he turned around to see that the three guys had sat up straight as they looked towards the stairs.

Kou Chen also turned with one leg moved out from under the table. He was prepared to run at any given moment.

Huo Ran also put his stuff down. He couldn’t keep looking back, so he stared at Kou Chen.

Wei Chaoren picked up the phone: “Kou Chen? Is this a surprise check for English? I’m busy right now…”

“Did you cause trouble?” Kou Chen’s voice was low. “There’s people downstairs.”

Wei Chaoren’s IQ often skipped a few beats, but he was still reliable when it mattered. After Kou Chen spoke, he was silent for a few seconds before asking: “How many?”

“Three,” Kou Chen said.

Huo Ran looked at him. What was the point in suddenly speaking in English now?

Was it so those three guys won’t know…? What made Kou Chen think they can’t even understand that…

Probably his essence as a slacker.

“Do I leave or…” Wei Chaoren said.

Right as he said that, Kou Chen saw those three guys stand up and head towards the stairs. One of them had a bag clutched in his hands.

He wasn’t sure before, but now he was certain that there was a brick inside the bag.

Anyways, he’s planning to just shove them a little a most. Push them away and then run.

The three guys were focused on going up the stairs, they didn’t notice the two people following them at all.

Huo Ran felt even more nervous after Kou Chen pulled him behind. He kept his eyes on the brick inside of the bag.

The second floor was bigger than the first, with more space for a fight… No, no fighting.

The first thing Huo Ran saw was Wei Chaoren and the girl sitting at the innermost table. Wei Chaoren had already stood up, and the girl turned away.

There was also a couple sitting at the table on the balcony, and seeing five people come up the stairs, they also turned away.

If there were more customers those guys might be a little more hesitant. But with only an audience of two people, they didn’t hold back. They rushed directly to Wei Chaoren’s table.

“What are you doing?!” The girl suddenly slammed her cup down onto the table and yelled.

Everyone paused, and Huo Ran understood that those guys were after her. But right after, the brick was pointed at her and he said: “Nothing. Keep your mouth shut!”

“Need anything?” Wei Chaoren took a step forward. His tone was arrogant, probably taught by Kou Chen personally.

The guy sneered, and was about to say something when Kou Chen suddenly moved. Huo Ran was shocked, thinking: “I thought we weren’t gonna fight?”. Kou Chen kicked away the bag in the guy’s hand.

The bag flew away and fell to the ground with a ‘thump’.

Indeed, it was a brick.

The guy finally realized that there were people behind him. When he turned around, he looked angry and shocked.

Kou Chen didn’t give the three of them any time to react before he shoved one of them harshly.

“Go!” He said to Wei Chaoren.

There was no way Wei Chaoren ever thought this would happen. King of Fighting Kou Chen only shoved the opponent in such a scenario? When it was obvious a fight was about to break out?

Good thing he reacted fast. Although he was shocked, he still grabbed the girl’s wrist and ran over with her. He didn’t have time to pick up the brick as he passed by, but he did kick it out onto the balcony.

If he didn’t do that, it would be close to those three guys, and they absolutely cannot have it.

The frozen couple on the balcony also reacted fast. The man picked up the brick, peeked over the railing, and then threw it over.

Nice!

Huo Ran also shoved another one of them, making him trip and grab onto a nearby table.

“You want to run?” The guy yelled. “Kill them!”

Huo Ran didn’t run away. Kou Chen was behind him, and he couldn’t just leave him behind when he might not fight back.

Sure enough, just a shove didn’t do much. They didn’t even just happen to twist an ankle or something, and the immediately rushed at Kou Chen.

“Kou Chen!” Huo Ran yelled. “Behind you!”

Kou Chen put his arm behind him to block it, and the punch landed on his arm. Normally, Kou Chen wouldn’t even need to block it, he would just hit back before the punch could land.

But now, he started running after he blocked the punch: “Run!”

Huo Ran also turned and ran down the stairs. If he still stood there he would be in Kou Chen’s way.

Wei Chaoren came back after pushing the girl into the stairwell, and seeing them sprinting towards him, he froze again before cursing: “Fucking hell!”

And then he turned and ran with them.

The girl had already run down the stairs, and Wei Chaoren jumped over the railing from halfway down the stairs.

Huo Ran was also about to jump when he heard someone yell from behind him, followed by a ‘thump’.

Huo Ran had never heard such a sound before. When he heard it, his legs nearly went soft.

It was the sound of metal colliding with something, dull and hollow. It sounded shocking.

“Kou Chen!” Huo Ran stopped in his tracks and yelled.

Kou Chen didn’t reply.

When he turned, Kou Chen was leaning on the door to the stairs. His brows were furrowed, and his eyes were unfocused.

One of the guys behind him was glaring, holding a copper pot in his hands.

The copper pot was one of the decorations in the shop, sat on a nearby shelf. It was hard and heavy.

Huo Ran immediately understood what happened.

All he felt was rage shooting out of every pore in his body. He nearly exploded from the sudden burst of anger.

“Fuck you!” Huo Ran yelled, his voice cracking a little.

Before the guy could react, he had already leapt back up. He put his right arm around Kou Chen’s chest to support him, and then he moved his leg and kicked the other guy’s chin.

He had never felt so much anger, or fear in his life, much less kick so high like that.

The guy collided with the wall behind him, and then he fell to the floor.

Huo Ran was about to turn and ask Kou Chen if he was okay, when the weight on his arm grew heavier.

“Kou Chen?” His voice started trembling.

Kou Chen’s entire body slumped forward.

“Kou Chen!” Wei Chaoren ran up the stairs and saw Kou Chen lying on Huo Ran, and he saw red.

The picked up a table and threw it at someone. “I’ll fucking kill you!”

“Kou Chen, can you hear me? Kou Chen? Baby?” Huo Ran was shaking now. He gently held Kou Chen and leaned him against the doorway.

Kou Chen’s eyes drooped, and he was frowning. He didn’t reply.

But he relaxed slightly when he saw that Kou Chen’s eyes weren’t closed. They were still blinking.

Huo Ran reached out and touched his face: “Kou Chen, where are you hurt?”

His hand touched the back of Kou Chen’s head, and Huo Ran felt something wet. He immediately jerked his hand away to look.

It was blood.

“Fuck.” Huo Ran was so angry he felt calm. He took off his sweater and put it behind Kou Chen’s head, and the he looked into his eyes. “Kou Chen, can you speak?”

“…I’m fine.” Kou Chen frowned, speaking with a little difficulty. His voice was very low. “He fucking hit me.”

Huo Ran could feel flames shooting out of his eyes when he looked around the second floor. Through the flames, he saw Wei Chaoren being smacked to the floor with a chair.

“Everyone, fucking freeze!” Huo Ran shouted. He leapt up and kicked the guy with his ass up about to punch Wei Chaoren.

Right in the middle of his ass.

The person pitched forward, and Wei Chaoren took the opportunity to stand back up.

The opponents didn’t have weapons, so they weren’t too worse off fighting two against three.

Although Huo Ran felt a little apologetic towards Kou Chen, seeing as he didn’t want to fight, the situation has changed now. If they didn’t fight back, they wouldn’t be able to make it out of the building.

This was the first time Huo Ran was so eager to fight.

He punched someone in the face, and as he was about to punch again, he heard a table being flipped over behind him.

Kou Chen?

He’s all better now?

Just like that?

When he turned around, he saw two people standing behind him. One was the waiter from earlier, and another person he didn’t know, but the scar on his face didn’t make him look like a good person.

Scar’s face was dark: “Pick them all up. One more movement from you guys and I’ll send you out the door horizontally. Who fucking dares make a mess in my shop?”

“Hear that?!” The waiter stepped forward and glared at them. “Get up!”
