Don't Turn from Summer Chapter 55

Hey everyone! I’ve picked up a new series called “Don’t Turn from Summer” by Ding Mo. After a reader suggested it to me as a translation project, I read through PalmtreeH’s translations and I fell in love with the story. It’s really good 😀

PalmtreeH and I discussed and he/she has stated that they would finish chapter 54. I’m starting on chapter 55. I’ll be taking over for now, as PalmtreeH has said that he/she has been busier recently and has more stuff on his/her plate, leaving less time to translate. When they have more time, PalmtreeH and I will discuss more about how we might start splitting the work.

My rate of translation for this series also isn’t really decided yet, somewhere around biweekly I think but I’m not sure. It might pick up when I finish my other series but I’ll see about that when it happens.

There may be some business terms and concepts that I might mistranslate but please be patient with me, thanks! And I’m sorry if my translating seems different from PalmtreeH’s but I hope you still enjoy it!

Chapter 55

A few days later.

Even though Feng Chen hides the news about the condition of the ground, the bank somehow hears about it. Claiming that the funding policy has changed, they suspend Feng Chen’s loan and request that they return the loan with interest as soon as possible.

At the same time, the cooperation on Lot A with Rong Yue advances into the main construction phase. In accordance with the contract, Rong Yue requests that Feng Chen contribute a sum of money to the investment.

Overnight, the entire situation suddenly changes, causing a huge uproar in Man Cheng.

In the midst of the rumors, Feng Chen’s capital chain is close to breaking, and the entire situation is nearing hopelessness.

It is early spring and rainy. Mu Han Xia sits next to the window at the coffee shop, staring at the water droplets as they run down the glass. After a while, she sees Lao Fang walk in, holding a black umbrella.

The first thing he says after sitting down is, “You shouldn’t have come look for me about this matter.”

Mu Han Xia’s fingers gently tap on her coffee cup and she remains silent. She knows that finding Lao Feng after something happened to Feng Chen isn’t appropriate. But for Lin Mo Chen, for the Feng Chen which he single-handedly established, she summoned the courage and forced herself to come. She hadn’t even discussed it with Lin Mo Chen yet.

Lao Fang has a rough estimate of what is in her heart and says unhurriedly, “Xiao Mu, every area has their own rules. The bureaucracy is the bureaucracy, and the business world is the business world. If I use the authority in my hands and overstep my bounds to help him, it will be breaking the rules. Neither side, the bureaucracy or the business world, will accept people who break the rules. In the end, it will be on him, and the one who is doomed is still him. So, I definitely will not meddle in this. Furthermore, objectively speaking, Lin Mo Chen suffered a defeat in a fight of business interests between him and Zhang Yi Fang. Losers will never survive and get recognition, that’s just the way that the world is.”

This is hard to accept for Mu Han Xia. After a short period of silence, she raises her head to look at him and says, “Lao Fang, what you are saying makes sense, I understand it all. I also won’t act naive, asking you to violate the rules and meddle in this. Logically, you shouldn’t help him. Emotionally, you also don’t have any friendship with him either. These past days, I also haven’t seen him often. But whenever I see him, I keep thinking, should a person like him fall from the sky? And be unable to get up again? The winner is the king, and the losers will never be recognized, I know this. But I think that this isn’t fair. He’s still so young, only 26 years old, but his opponent? He’s an old experienced fox who has already been in the business world for many years. Who hasn’t made a mistake when they were young? And he also didn’t have any background, only relying on his own brain and hard work to create a brand new business model, astonishing everyone. But those people, they all have extremely high backgrounds, relying on their fathers, father-in-laws, wives… … if you consider their businesses, their economic contributions to the city, can they really have done more than Lin Mo Chen?”

After hearing what she has said, Lao Fang is silent.

Mu Han Xia’s eyes are slightly red as she continues. “Lao Fang, I don’t want you to help us do anything, that wouldn’t be right, that’s narrow-sighted and not smart. But you are a person above many, and have seen lots of things. You are wiser and more far-sighted, and the bridges you’ve crossed are many more than the roads we have walked upon. The storms you have seen are definitely bigger than this one. And I am just a humble nobody. But I think that if you are willing to give out some pointers, it might just become our lifeline.

If he can escape the situation this time, then he will be able to start again. Lao Fang, I’m going to boast here, the number of business geniuses like him, how many are these? In the future, the kind of economy that he will be able to create is something that no one can estimate.

It was for this that I came to look for you. I think that you are an elder who will cherish those he loves. Without a doubt, I believe that you make a lot of decisions, not based on benefits or feelings, nor based on strictly adhering to the rules, but based on your open mind and original vision. As such, you even became friends with the small, insignificant person I am. But Lin Mo Chen, I can guarantee that he is a valuable person worth 100x more than me to society. Please help him, please help us find a road, a road which we can continue walking on. Even if that road is extremely difficult, I will still accompany him, slowly enduring together, walking together.”

This time, Lao Fang is silent for a long time. After a long sigh, he laughs and shakes his head slightly. “Xiao Mu, you would be a very good persuasive speaker. I also know that you genuinely are sincere. Every sentence you say to me is poking this old man’s heart. But, I still have my own principles. I can’t help you, or help him.”

Mu Han Xia’s heart cools.

Lao Fang stands up, looking as if he is about to leave. Mu Han Xia is extremely discouraged, but she still stands up and smiles slightly to send him off.

At this time, Lao Fang stands still and says, “Politics only solves political matters. Economic problems must be solved from an economic point of view. That is my principle. If the inner path is blocked, you must learn to find the external strength to break through it. Do you understand?”

Listening to him, Mu Han Xia is stumped for words.

Lao Fang smiles slightly, as if he is conversing with her normally. “Recently, have you been going the the entrepeneur coffee shop less? I remember you used to take Feng Chen’s plan around, there definitely were some interested investors, right? You said that I have crossed many bridges (overcome many difficulties), more so than the roads that you have walked. How I see it, the entrepreneur coffee shop still has a lot of stories to dig up. Recently, there have been a few new faces that have shown up. Of course, I am in charge of the economic work in Lin city, so naturally I have to pay more attention to these things. Some of the new friends aren’t just average people. Some most likely even exceed the imaginations of local companies such as Rong Yue and Feng Chen. I think “Hidden in the City,” this phrase is the most suitable description. The thing is that if there are people who want to ask for help from these kinds of savior investors to save their company, it’s all up to chance. They have to look at themselves, and see if there is any chance of harming one another if they agree to work together. The difficulty level is high, because sometimes the way that us Chinese people think is different from that of foreign businessmen.”

After seeing Lao Fang, Mu Han Xia does not want to go home. She takes a bus back to the company. She knows that Lin Mo Chen is treating someone to dinner at a restaurant close to the company tonight.

Right after getting off the bus, she sees Lin Mo Chen along with Sun Zhi and a few other people standing together in the distance, in front of a richly decorated restaurant entrance.

Mu Han Xia stops in her tracks. Under the lights, the only thing she can see clearly is his figure, his face slightly red with a faint smile, talking with other people. They definitely had a lot to drink that night. Quickly, the other party’s car arrives and Sun Zhi sends them off. In the end, the only ones left standing in front of the restaurant are Sun Zhi and Lin Mo Chen.

Mu Han Xia slowly walks over.

The two of them speak a few sentences and then Sun Zhi walks in Mu Han Xia’s direction. Lin Mo Chen’s face has returned to normal and he walks towards the other direction.

Mu Han Xia speeds up her steps and runs into Sun Zhi head on.

“You just finished eating dinner?” Mu Han Xia smiles and asks.

Sun Zhi also smiles and nods his head, saying, “Finished. You should take the bus home now. The boss walked in that direction, he’s heading back to the office.”

“I saw.”

Sun Zhi walks two steps away then stops again. Calling out to her, he says, “Manager Mu.”

“Yes?” She turns her head to look back at him.

He pauses for a few moments than says, “The boss sold the car today. He sold it for more than 1 million.”

Mu Han Xia’s heart makes a slight ‘deng’ sound and she says, “Mhm.” (En in Chinese)

Sun Zhi laughs a bit and says, “I already told you about it so don’t ask him. The boss always has his own ideas, he can handle everything.”

“I know.”

In my other series, “To Our Youth that is Fading Away,” I translate using past tense (Chinese doesn’t really have tenses/conjugations so…) but PalmtreeH translates using present tense so I’ll keep that so that it won’t feel like a super weird and jarring change for readers.

If I make any mistakes, please tell me so I can fix them 🙂

Hope you liked it!!
