CHAPTER 7 : I Killed Them

Kelvin was filled with sudden dread. The scene in front of him wasn’t only gruesome; it was also terrifying to say the least. “W-what is this? Where did all this blood come from, and mom… What happened to her? Why did she explode all of a sudden?” Kelvin thought, while looking at the scene in front of him. “Dad… did he explode too?” He mumbled to himself. He looked down at his blood stained clothes and tears began to pour out from his eyes. “Did I do this? D-did I…kill them?” With his head down, Kelvin caught sight of his reflection on a broken piece of glass from a shattered window, and he was shocked to see that both the scar and the black of his left eye were glowing red, and there were also a series of red like veins that spread from his pupil to the white of his left eye. Kelvin wasn’t really bothered or scared about the state of his eye. The real thing that sent chills down his spine was the evil smile he received from his reflection, which contradicted the look of terror on his face. Kelvin’s reaction turned from that of fear to anger and lifting both hands, he brought it down, smashing continuously at the broken glass, while screaming in agony. “It has to be the demon inside me! I wouldn’t have killed them!! I wouldn’t kill my own parents!!!” He kept punching the glass until his knuckles were dyed red with his blood. Kelvin sat down and wept silently; a wave of anguish and emotional pain overcame him. He stayed in that position and wept for a long time.
Not knowing how long he had cried for, Kelvin finally stood up and looked at the blood smeared all over the living room. ‘I wonder who these people are, and why would they want to capture me. Are they demon hunters? That’s the only logical explanation I can come up with.’ Kelvin thought. “I think they sensed the dark aura I was given off and decided to capture me. Carl could sense the aura so I guess it’s only natural that they could all sense it too. I’m sure they all had families of their own and…. And now they are all dead; all because of me.” Kelvin was contemplating on what to do next. He could only think of one person who could help him. ‘Carl is the only person I can turn to, I have to tell him.’ And with that in mind, he left the house. Carl’s residence was quite close to Kelvin’s; they were only just a few blocks apart. Due to the fact that it was night it was easier for Kelvin to avoid being seen by people. They’d think he was a dangerous serial killer on the run, and to be honest who would blame them; Kelvin was covered in blood and was running bare footed at night. So it was only natural that people would see him that way. Reaching Carl’s house, Kelvin made for the front door, and was about to knock, when a single thought crossed his mind. ‘What if Carl’s mom is to open the door. How would I explain this?’ So refraining from the front door, he went through the back yard and looked up to Carl’s room window and without hesitation he quickly scaled up the building reaching Carl’s room window. Kelvin tried to open the window but it was locked, so he knocked on the window a few times. Carl was currently sleeping in his room. He sustained some injuries from the night’s mission and decided to rest up. So far he was enjoying his sleep that was until he started hearing a series of noise coming from his window. At first he tried to ignore it but the noise only grew louder. “Ugh, what the hell is making all that noise?” Carl said in annoyance as he rose up from bed. With a little sleep in his eye, he walked towards the window which was the source of the noise and yanked it open. Carl peered out the window and from his perspective, what could only be described as a monster was staring at him. All trace of sleep vanished from his eyes and out of shock he jerked backwards. “Carl It’s me.” Kelvin said as he stepped into the room. “Wait, Kelvin!? What the hell are you doing here so late at night? And why do you look like that? Don’t tell me that’s your blood?” Carl asked, looking Kelvin up and down. “Also, what is wrong with your eye?” “I don’t know? I’m so confused right now, that’s why I came to you; please I need your help, I don’t know what happened but I think I….I killed them.” Kelvin said in a panicked voice. “Killed who?” Carl replied back with a raised brow. Kelvin told Carl all that happened from the unexpected visit of the demon hunters to the death of his parents. “From what you said, it is clear that you have already awakened. But what I don’t understand is, everyone exploding like that. To be honest it’s my fault that the demon hunters showed up at your place. I told Cassian about your condition and he said he would look into it; I’m sorry I didn’t know he would try to capture you.” Carl said with regret written on his face. “Anyway we have to go.” “Go were?” Kelvin asked “Don’t worry just trust me.” Carl replied as he brought out some clothes from his wardrobe. “Here change into this and meet me on the roof.” After saying that, Carl climbed out the window. Kelvin quickly changed and looked out the window only to see Carl standing on the roof of the building. “Come on Kelvin we don’t have much time.” “You still haven’t answered my question and why are you on the roof?” Kelvin asked. “That’s not important; we have to hurry because in a matter of time they would be here and if they get you, they will surely kill you.” Carl replied. “Who are they? Who would want to kill me?” “Who do you think; the demon hunters of course. It won’t be long until they find out what happened. I’m taking you to a place where you will lay low for a while.” Carl said. Kelvin climbed out of the window and joined Carl on the roof. “Good now follow me.” And with that Carl dashed to the edge of the roof and jumped off landing on the roof of the next building. ‘Wow he’s so fast can I do that? No. Now is not the time to be scared; I have to do this. I have a demon inside me so even if I fall, I can heal myself. I just have to jump; even though I’m three stories away from the ground.’ Kelvin gulped and dashed to the edge of the roof. He felt his heart beat increasing at every second and on reaching the edge, he jumped. Kelvin felt the rush of air on his face and hair, looking down he saw how high he was from the ground. ‘I didn’t think I could jump this high’ Kelvin thought. He looked up ahead to see the next building, were Carl was patiently waiting for him. Kelvin landed perfectly fine on the next building, right next to Carl. “Come on let’s keep moving.” Carl said, jumping off again. The both of them jumped from roof top to roof top with great speed. At first Kelvin was falling behind and his movements were sluggish, but gradually he started getting the hang of it, and was catching up to Carl. They moved through building tops and alleys and finally Carl stopped in front of an old antique shop, which was in a secluded area. Kelvin bent over to catch his breath. Though jumping from building to building was exciting, it also required a lot of stamina. Looking up, Kelvin saw the antique shop and on top of the antique shop was a worn out sign that read “Classic antique repairs and restoration”. Kelvin looked at Carl and asked, “Is this the place?” “Yeah, come on let’s get inside.” Carl led the way into the antique shop. He stopped in front of the door and knocked in a coded pattern, and after sometime, the door opened.
