/ A Good-for-Nothing Chapter 31: A Near Miss
Out of curiosity, Zu Zhichong asked, "Chief, the demonic Qi about this guy so weak, and it seems that he just fell prey to demonic Qi. How did he come to kill people?"
"Because he has ulterior motives, and there are monsters in his mind, which was why he fell victim to demonic Qi so easily, had so little control on his power, and even regarded himself as a dominator who wielded the power of life and death. He's not the first one, and he won't be the last."
Li Zong wiped his hands. "Find out who this guy is after you get back. Currently, we can't rule out the possibility that someone deliberately used demonic Qi to manipulate others into killing people so as to speed up his or her own cultivation."
"Okay."
Then other members got in their cars. Lately, there had been several occasions when Dream Eaters had made trouble in Coastal City. By apprehending this suspect, they had finally made some headway with the investigation. Zu Zhichong, who was talkative by nature, couldn't help but start nagging again. "Alas. The king of these demons has already been sealed, but his minions still refuse to behave. Making trouble is becoming a near daily occurrence for them. I haven't taken any vacation for over a month! How I desire to take a bath in a hot tub."
Zhen Ni forced a smile. "This is just the beginning. There must be some others involved in this case."
"I'm just saying. Everybody needs hope..."
Li Zong, who had been sitting in repose with his eyes closed on the back seat, sensed something and abruptly sat bolt upright, a serious look on his face. "Han Zhuo, open the door."
Originally, Zu Zhichong had been smiling, but as he heard this, his smile instantly disappeared. "What's wrong, Chief?"
Li Zong leaped out of the running car, hid himself by moonlight and replied, "Something happened in my apartment."
Then he disappeared.
In Li Zong's apartment.
He Zheng took a couple of steps backwards in a row, watching the man, somewhat confused. This man looked familiar but he couldn't recall exactly where he had seen him before.
That was a very good-looking man whose features were quite exquisite.
"You don't remember me, He Zheng?"
"Who are you? How did you open the door?" He Zheng stared at him, on the alert. Tun Shanhai noticed that He Zheng, hands at the back, was making mudras.
"The door was unclosed." The man watched him with an affectedly innocent expression, looking pitiful. "It was because the door was unlocked that I came in."
The man came close and He Zheng drew back. "Stay back!"
Although He Zheng had started learning the mental cultivation method of He family, it had been only a couple of days, and he had no offensive spells at his disposal, so he had no alternative but to try to recall the incantation that Zu Zhichong recited to conjure up lightning on the plane that day, his mind racing.
Tun Shanhai had seen that the man had no aggressivity. He couldn't tell how powerful the man was, but he knew that Li Zong definitely had locked the door when he left the apartment, so this man was lying.
Tun Shanhai arched his back, seemingly poised to attack, his vigilant eyes fixed on the man.
"You forgot that you confessed your love to me in front of all guests that day," said the man in a muted voice. "You married another man after having stolen my heart..."
He Zheng fell speechless.
It occurred to him that this person was the very man before whom he had knelt down after being struck by a Peach Blossom Spell on his father's birthday. 'But is this what he looks like?' he wondered.
He Zheng was somewhat suspicious, but he still didn't let his guard down. "Then how did you know I live here?"
The man was very close now. He raised his head and cast a smile at He Zheng, the arch of his lips somewhat weird. "Because...I'm here to kill you."
As the man finished the last word, his countenance drastically changed. Unable to dodge in time, He Zheng was about to be hit by the man's hand. Tun Shanhai abruptly shot forward and, with a shield-like white screen of light over his body, reflected that blow back on the man.
The man's strength was just average. Blindsided by the cat, he was instantly sent flying, spat a mouthful of blood and passed out.
He Zheng fell speechless.
He looked at the little white cat, which was licking its claws with its head down as if saying, "I saved your ass. Why don't you just kneel down and express your gratitude to your savior?"
'Since when did cats become so tough?' he wondered.
In a small room, He Jin abruptly spat out a mouthful of blood. Both of the men manipulated by him had failed. He bitterly wiped off the blood on the corners of his mouth. 'Shit! Exactly who is it that has been helping He Zheng?'
