A Good-for-Nothing 21: Engagement with the Opponent

Seeing the expression on He Zheng's face, Qiao Peiyu came to know that He Zheng had recollected what happened on that day. She covered her lips and chuckled.

But He Zheng refused to let this vicious woman enjoy her triumph for long. He flintily stared at Qiao Peiyu. There seemed to be two small flares in his eyes. "Qiao Peiyu, you think I don't know who did that to me?"

After a brief pause, he added in a muted voice, "Your son sent a demonized Dream Eater to kill me. Do you know who saved my life?" Qiao Peiyu's eyelids fleetingly twitched as she heard the word "demonized".

Collusion with demons was the greatest taboo in the realm of cultivation. Satisfied with her reaction, He Zheng leisurely walked out of the hall and exhaled deeply.

'It seems that dealing with this kind of woman requires not loud voice but a smart brain.'

He Zheng glanced at the reflection of Qiao Peiyu's vulnerable figure in the glass and gave a chuckle.

'This is only the beginning,' he thought.

He Jin got rid of the smell of blood about him before coming back home. Unlike that man in the shadows who was always apathetic and ruthless, He Jin became a young man of sunny disposition after he returned to He family.

"Mother, why are you standing here?" He Jin walked into the hall and saw Qiao Peiyu standing on the staircase with a sullen look on her face.

Qiao Peiyu collected her thoughts when she heard her son's voice. Though angry, Qiao Peiyu still had some of her senses left. "What did you do out there?"

He Jin was Qiao Peiyu's youngest son. Unlike He Qin, who was endowed with excellent aptitude for cultivation, He Jin had only average endowment. But a year before, He Jin was seriously wounded during a fight caused by his provocative words, and for some inexplicable reason, after his recovery from the injury, he had been getting more and more powerful and also increasingly more mysterious, as if he had become a different person.

But Qiao Peiyu was occupied with a lot of issues, so she didn't have enough time to find out the reason for the change of her youngest son. He Zheng's remarks had alerted Qiao Peiyu. She stared at her son with vigilant eyes. "He Jin, don't do anything stupid. There are certain things you should never get involved in."

"I know, mother. Don't worry," replied He Jin, holding Qiao Peiyu's hand like a spoiled child.

Suddenly, He Jin had a strange feeling in his palm, a black fluid flowing out of it. He put his hand into his pocket, his expression unchanged, "Mother, I'm going back to my room."

"Okay."

He Jin quickly shut the door, took his hand out of the pocket and saw that his whole palm was covered in black liquid. He gave a smile. "It seems that the man under the control of demonic Qi has made his move..."

Night fell. A young man in a short-sleeve T-shirt left his room. He wanted to try the new power that he had just come by on this day. But in order to make sure nobody else saw him, he chose to do it in a private place.

A couple of days ago, he did some search and found that there were many orphans in the village in the city. They made their living by begging, so nobody would notice if one or two of them died.

The man got into his car and drove to the village in the city, which was crowded with shanties. He walked up to the doorway of the most dilapidated house and softly knocked at the door which could barely serve as one.

A dirty-looking, exceptionally thin child wiped his face and stared at the uninvited visitor with a fierce face. "Who are you? What do you want?"

The man curved the corners of his mouth and gave the child a pat on the head. A puff of black gas wafted out of his palm and went into the middle of the child's forehead. With that, the child fell down to the ground, as if having drifted into a dream...
