Prologue

I am the leader of a small team.

Who knows how many dangers I’ve been through in order to get the title of team leader. I was barely able to survive through any of them. I guess, all i can say is that I have good luck.

I’m barely at the age of 25, but I’ve been through a lot of crap already. I’m one of the very few people that have survived this place for the past 10 years, where a countless amount of people have died. This could be the reason why people don’t look at my age, but at my experience.

– I pray consistently.

My team and I have currently come into a dangerous area.

It’s a dangerous hunting ground even for hunter’s who have special powers, but my team and I are just normal civilians.

That’s why the whole world sees us as a crazy bunch.  But if the team leader is good at what he does, then they’re better off than the average hunter. Hunter’s fight off monsters, but we move around while avoiding the fights. As long as we don’t confront the enemy, we can come back home in one piece.

Our job is pretty simple to say. We avoid the fights with monsters, find their corpse, and then take apart whatever we can to take with us. Monsters either die in the hands of a hunter, fight amongst themselves, or die through natural causes. Either way, we harvest whatever we can.

Because we only look for corpses, we’re known to be called as Hyenas. Sometimes they might even call us feces flies.

Seoul is a very large hunting ground. There are plenty of corpses to harvest off of, and we do a lot of dirty deeds in order to get these corpses.

Looking through the rotting corpses is the least of what we do. We also use a shovel to look for items in the monster’s feces. If we can make even a little bit of money, we’ll go to even the dirtiest of places. I’m sure the real hyenas living in the Savannah are 100 times cleaner than we are.

A couple of weeks ago, we went into a building to look for a corpse. The moment we opened the door, a huge chunk of something that was black covered our faces.

We later found out that it was a couple thousand flies flying around everywhere. On the body, you can find a tsunami of maggots moving about, but we didn’t give up because of the money. We pushed the maggots off the rotting body, and found what we needed to sell.

This is what we do on a daily basis. To be honest, there’s nothing much to say even when people call us feces flies, no, we smell worse than them. That could be the reason why we never get welcomed when we return to the city.

But, this job of being a hyena hasn’t always been around, because it surfaced after the world flipped upside down.

20 years ago, monsters fell from the moon and 10 million of Seoul’s population was destroyed. The cities were filled with never before seen monsters, and everything turned into hell.

In the quiet alley ways, strange monsters were seen hunting down children, and in the streets, one could see huge giants capable of crushing and throwing cars.

Amongst them was the lord of the monsters that would gather a mountain of dead people and gobble them up in one gulp. Its underlings would rush at the blood and organs that spilled off to the side. This change happened out of nowhere, and the Seoul that everyone once knew of was suddenly gone.

The people were pushed back to Suwon. Excluding the low class monsters, the others all had a special shield which even the military could do nothing about. (TN – Suwon is a place near Seoul)

That’s when a person with special powers known as the hunter was born and changed the situation. The government sent the hunter out into the front lines, and then proceeded to barricade the northern sea above Indukwon. Shi Heung city, Ahn Yang city, Sung Nam city, and Ha Nam city are other cities that are currently being used as outposts to keep the monsters in Seoul from getting out. (TN – Indukwon, Shi heung, Ahn Yang, Sung Nam, and Ha Nam are all places around Seoul)

“Team leader, there are traces of the monster Nadon.”

It was a message from the reconnaissance team. Nadon’s are monsters that are as big as leopards, and have really strong jaw strength.

“Is it a footprint?”

“Yes sir, the footprint was found on the mud, and it doesn’t seemto have hardened yet so I figure the monster is pretty close.”

“That’s not good. Everyone paste the Longtail’s feces on your body.”

You could hear the muttering of disappoint by everyone. A Longtail is a type of giant dragonfly that flies around and eats Nadon’s, that’s why the smell of Longtail feces brings fear to the Nadon’s.

The problem is, their feces smell nauseating.

“It’s expensive so stop complaining”, I said resolutely. However, I wasn’t able to completely shut out the complaints.

“Team leader, this is why people call us feces flies. Even a girl’s special place smells better than this.”

I knew they were just complaining, so I responded back, “The prostitutes you pay for to sleep with, costs 100x cheaper than this crap so just put it on.”

“Hahaha, you should come join me the next time we go back to the city.”

“No thanks, you always go to the cheap ones.”

“What, are you saying expensive vaginas smell good then?”

Everyone wiped the feces on their bodies as they joked around with me. I ordered them to continue moving forward, since we wouldn’t be in any danger with the Nadon’s for the next few days.

The hunters don’t know these know-hows. Well, I guess they don’t need to know since they have their powers, but a lot of the hunter’s die while fighting the Nadon’s. At first they’re able to fight well, but later give up from exhaustion because of the sheer number of force on the opposing side.

On the flip side, we avoid the Nadon’s because that’s our existence as Hyenas.
