As the battle continued on Marcus found out that he hadn’t underestimated the strength of orcs but he did so with elves and riflemen.

Indeed, 300 grunts wouldn’t be able to do much if there were no elf archers and dwarf riflemen backing them up and causing the casualties. Marcus’s side suffered losses not because of orcs but because of elves and dwarves.

Grunts weren’t less but there was a limit to how many people they could fight against at a given time. Marcus had relied on their mage to break the formation of orcs and use his warriors to press forward and finish the orcs for good. However, Tyrande and riflemen killed the mage before he could even act.

In addition, the elf archers were using shadow escape skill which made them invisible. As a result, Marcus didn’t know how many archers Xiao Yu was using. Moreover, the existence of magical weapons used by the riflemen had put him into disadvantage.

Xiao Yu was perfectly using the advantage of high ground. The archers were elite and a great threat to Marcus. He clearly understood that he will face defeat if the war continued on in this manner.

It was the era of cold weapons so Marcus wasn’t well versed about the power that long-range weapons played in the warfare. As a modern man Xiao Yu knew and understood how to use long-range attacks to his advantage.

Napoleon was also an advocate of using centralized heavy weapons for long-range attacks to suppress the enemy. As long as one side suppressed the other then the victory was a step away.

As a result, Grunts and footmen weren’t the lethal part of Xiao Yu’s troops in this battle but archers and riflemen.

Riflemen didn’t have neither flexibility nor speed of archers. Basically, a dwarf would shoot a bullet while elf archer would shoot five arrows in that time span. But the power of the bullets were enough to suppress and even kill the warriors who cultivated the battle energy. So both of them played a crucial role.

Xiao Yu also thought that as long as he had a mage, footmen, cavalry and warriors then he could face troops that consisted of hundreds of thousands or even millions soldiers.

But the number of his troops was limited. The only thing he was good at this point was diversification of his troops. Otherwise, he would have suffered a defeat long ago.

“Retreat! Retreat!” Marcus was smart enough to understand that the battle couldn’t continue this way or his demise was near. He quickly ordered the bandits to get back. Marcus was afraid Xiao Yu’s archers.

Marcus was in fury and depression. This was his own camp and the enemy was using the walls which he had constructed against himself. If he had the walls since the start then even those strong archers wouldn’t be able to do anything to him. However, now Xiao Yu was using this walls as a weapon against Marcus.

Xiao Yu was shrewd enough to observe the battleground before going to war.

Xiao Yu was aware that the other side had cavalry too. So cavalry could easily bypass three hundred grunts and attack his archers. This was the reason he had chosen to get wall first and start the battle afterwards.

If he directly went against the bandits and choose to siege the camp he would face the same fate. The archers and dwarves wouldn’t be able to suppress the patrols from distance. The chance of grunts to climb and get the wall was much less.

Xiao Yu knew and understood the disadvantages of his troops. Nevertheless, he was a winner of a Warcraft competition where lots of elite players had participated. He had used tactics like this and many other sophisticated ones to win in the game. Although there were many difference between the real world and game but Xiao Yu’s understanding of the situation was a step ahead because of the cold weapons that were used in the backward world.

Xiao Yu didn’t chase when Marcus ordered his bandits to retreat. Xiao Yu understood that he wouldn’t be enemy’s opponent if he lost the wall.

Nevertheless, Xiao Yu’s troops were able to kill about 600 bandits in the initial stage when chaos was dominant. Afterwards Marcus lost another 1000 bandits. In total, Marcus’s loss was equal to 2000 bandits including a mage and 5 warriors.

It was either Tyrande or riflemen that had killed those 5 warriors who cultivated battle energy.

The warriors could use their battle energy to resist ordinary archer’s arrows but their bodies couldn’t withstand Tyrande’s Searing Arrow or riflemen’s bullets.

“Xiao Yu! I will remember your name for an eternity! I’ll massacre your Lion town after I kill you here!” Marcus was furious. He had never had such a big failure since he began to rob. In less than half an hour he had lost almost 2000 bandits. The camp had less than 5000 bandits and this number meant that he had lost half of his men.

Xiao Yu shouted when he saw bandits get out of range of archers: "Hey! Offspring of a human and animal! I thought you wanted to kill me and slaughter the Lion town! What a joke! I was chosen by the God of Elves, God of Orcs and God of Dwarves as the King of the Kings! I will rule the world so you either go down or die! Are you still intending to continuing this hopeless fight against me?"

Xiao Yu was not a stranger to scuffles and curses because of being a gamer. He had run into many players who would use interesting methods to scold others and change their temper. He had seen many trolls online. In short, he was invincible in this area. How could Marcus be his opponent?

“King of Kings? You? I’ll peel of your skin today! Get the heavy cavalry ready!” Marcus’s face was grim as he ordered the bandits.

The equipment that the heavy cavalry men and horses had to wear needed certain amount of time. The night attack was an ambush and the cavalry couldn’t be brought out immediately. However, they were ready now and waiting for Marcus’s orders.

In the era of cold weapons, heavy cavalry was the most important part of the army. You could directly break through the formation of enemy with a team of heavy cavalry. The infantry would follow after them to massacre the left overs. This way it was possible to win complete victory.

In many big battles both sides would confront using the heavy cavalry. The one which overwhelmed the other side would win.

Ordinary bandit group didn’t have money to support their own heavy cavalry troops. Although the cavalry was powerful but having them was costly. A good heavy cavalry unit consisted of trained soldiers, specially selected horses, good equipment and so on. In short, an average cavalry unit with a soldier and horse would cost thousands of gold coins. Marcus had accumulated money over a decade. However he was still able to nurture only 300 heavy cavalry units. However, this cavalry troops of 300 had made him win many opponents.

The horses began to rush towards the front. Having such a cavalry troop was a symbol of strength for this bandit group.

At the same time the rear of the camp was in fire. Although Marcus had sent people to deal with it but it wasn’t an easy feat. Marcus had to end the battle as soon as possible and kill Xiao Yu so that they could extinguish the fire on time. Otherwise, the camp that he spend more than dozen years to build would turn into ashes.

Xiao Yu waved his hand and four grunts quietly carried out two Glaive Throwers from the back.

“Charge!” Marcus ordered.
