Chapter 28

Xiao Yu and Blademaster cleaned up one side of the wall and turned towards the other side of the wall (gate divides the wall into two). It didn’t take long for them to finish off the patrols. Xiao Yu went over to open the walls while gesturing at footmen and grunts to quickly reach the gates.

There were two plugs that were put over to keep the gates closed. Fortunately, Xiao Yu was at level 5 and his basic attributes had improved a lot.

Xiao Yu slowly unloaded the plugs and opened the thick gate.

“What’s happening? Why the torches are off?” Sound of a bandit disturbed the silent camp.

Tyrande was by the gate. She used arrow to shoot the bandit’s throat.

Patrols on the other side of the bandit camp heard the sound but they didn’t expect that enemy had penetrated their camp. One of them came over: "What’s happening?" However, he was met with cold Grom who killed him off.

The camp patrols came one by one but all of them were killed. The other patrols within the camp understood that something was wrong so they began to ring the bells as a warning.

Xiao Yu commanded his troops to occupy the places so that the battle was going to begin.

He placed elf archers and dwarf riflemen on the walls. He divided footmen into groups of 25 and put them to protect the stone ladders that lead to top of the walls.

Elf hunters were ordered to infiltrate the camp and find a place to hide.

Xiao Yu knew that hunters weren’t good at close-combat so he ordered them to burn fires in different parts of the camp to create chaos. They were fast and stealthy so it was the most appropriate role that he could come up with. Moreover, they were invisible in the shadows. In addition, he ordered hunters not to engage in fight with bandits. If one of them was found then he ordered the hunter to escape immediately.

The hunters had reached level 2 and Xiao Yu couldn’t bear to see them die in this camp.

“An enemy attack! Enemy is attack! Get ready to fight!” Loud noises of bandits, sounds of bells and drums began to echo all around the camp.

Xiao Yu was standing on top of the wall with a smile on his face.

Xiao Yu was worried about the formations that the bandits can come up with. As a result, he occupied the best terrain in the camp for the upcoming battle. At the moment, confusion was dormant in the minds of the bandits. So any group that came forward was mercilessly slain either by archers or grunts.

Xiao Yu didn’t dare to go for a face-to-face attack. Although his warriors were strong but the number of troops he had was lacking in quantity.

Xiao Yu wouldn’t hesitate to go for a direct attack if he had 2000 warriors. However, at the moment he had only 650 warriors and the other side was about 3000 or 4000 elite bandits. His army would be drowned if he went for a direct battle. Even grunts would suffer big casualties when they were encircled by large number of enemies. Elf archers were hopeless in a close-combat.

But, he was helding onto the walls. Archers would play a great role during this battle. On name it was an offensive war. But in reality, Xiao Yu still was planning to go for a defensive battle and slowly kill the enemies.

“Orcs … It’s ORCS!" Bandits who rushed over were surprised. Hearing rumors was one thing but witnessing it another.

But they got their courage when they saw that the number of orcs wasn’t substantial. Moreover, it seemed as if orcs were holding the gates instead of entering the camp. So they rushed out to get them out and shut the gates.

But those bandits fell into Xiao Yu’s trap.

About 200 bandits rushed over. But it was riflemen and archers that met them not the orcs.

The accuracy of the archers were much higher as they were in a favorable terrain. In a matter of moments two hundred bandits were killed.

Riflemen couldn’t see properly and their accuracy was low. However, Xiao Yu had ordered them to fire at random.

“The enemy has occupied the walls! They have archers!” The bandits on the rear shouted out in surprise.

It was too dark and the walls were lit. As a result, they couldn’t see the enemies that were on the wall. Elves were basically invisible because of their Shadow Escape skill. The dwarves were way to short and leaned down at the moment. In short, there was an invisible enemy on the walls that hunted the bandits.

The bandits that weren’t killed by the archers or survived the arrows were directly trampled down by grunts who massacred them with their axes.

Xiao Yu ordered the grunts to get back and defend the gates. It was another Spartan tactic but in this gate it wasn’t about letting people in but not letting them escape through the gates.

It was an overused tactic but the most effective one which Xiao Yu could come up with.

Most of the bandits who were sleeping woke up because of the noises. At the same time, flames began to burn in some parts of the camp. It added to the confusion. None of the bandits knew the exact number of invaders.

Some bandits rushed towards the gate on instinct as they could only see the orcs. They wanted to form defensive formations before attacking but they didn’t know that Xiao Yu wasn’t planning to attack. Tonight was all about defending.

The more bandits rushed at the gates, the more experience points Xiao Yu, heroes and warriors had. Xiao Yu saw Grom reach level 9. It didn’t take long for Tyrande to reach level 9 too. Even the archmage reached level 5. They accumulated lots of experience points in the last battle and tonight’s additional experience points brought their levels up.

Xiao Yu quickly added a skill point to Omnislash skill of Grom and the skill reached level 4. He added skill point to Beast Soul skill of Tyrande and made archmage learn Ice Barrier skill. This way the archmage could have a skill to protect himself.

A golden light burst out. Xiao Yu found out that he reached level 6 too. He quickly distributed the attribute points and decided to add Ice Barrier as the next skill.

“I’m protected by an Ice Barrier! Who can be my opponent?” Xiao Yu proudly said.

The system allowed Xiao Yu to master skills from different heroes without limiting him to only 1 hero’s skills. As a result, he was going to be more powerful than any hero. He had learned all skills of Grom so he planned to learn skills from different heroes.

“We went through a collective upgrade. It seems we will be able to destroy this bandit camp without any problem.”

Xiao Yu was pondering when a sound penetrated the sky: "Who is so bold to attack my camp?"

Xiao Yu saw a man with endless anger shown on his face and his body covered in soil screaming out. Xiao Yu narrowed his eyes as he looked at Fox: "Is this the leader?"

Fox nodded: “Yes, master. I haven’t personally met him before. But according to the characteristics of his appearance he must be the leader of this camp - Marcus!"

Xiao Yu nodded and ordered Fox to retreat and find a place to hide. He ordered grunts to roar collectively towards the front.

Hundreds of grunts lead by Grom issued roars towards Marcus who rushed to the front of the battle.

Argh~~~

Muffled sounds echoed out and formed strong air blowing the sand on the ground. The sand and dirt flew up and swept over Marcus.

Marcus had just come to the battlefield but only ate a mouthful of sand.

“Doesn’t he know that nobody can compete with orcs when it comes to shouting out loud?” Xiao Yu touched the tip of his nose.
