When Love Beckons Twice Chapter 239 - We Will Die At This Speed

The driver continued driving forward to reach the next U-turn, however, Wu Zhang was not patient enough to wait. "Stop the car!" He barked leaning forward and with such a loud command the driver reflexively hit the brakes and the car halted with a loud screech in the middle of the road, making the car behind it almost bump into it.

The driver in the other car stepped out to shout, but when he saw the number plate painted with the word "Wu" his feet paused and he silently went back inside, not daring to mess with the Wu family.

Wu Zhang opened the door and stepped out, heading to the driver's seat and opening the door. "Step out."

The poor driver even though he looked terrified, still somehow managed to climb out, not daring to delay any order that came from their young master. And as soon as he complied with it, Wu Zhang climbed into the driver's seat and slammed the door shut, leaving behind the poor driver, utterly confused in the middle of the road.

Wu Zhang stepped onto the gas pedal and the engine roared to life, taking the car out of sight in no time. He was losing his patience to direct his driver to drive fast and therefore decided to drive himself as he wanted to find Song Jia as soon as possible to make sure she was safe.

As the car moved ahead, at an unruly speed during the hour of rushing traffic, Li Jing held the edges of his seat tightly as if holding onto his dear life. The terrifying speed was making him feel dizzy and the sharp twists and turns that Wu Zhang took were not helping it at all.

"Bo-boss, we will die at this speed..." Li Jing almost screamed as he expressed his fear, but Wu Zhang paid no heed to it and instead just stepped harder onto the gas pedal.

The car ran, honking every now and then at an ear-piercing pitch, breaking signals after signals and making the other cars almost lose their balance and the passerby's almost jump out of the way in order to not get hit.

However, no one dared to stop the car, as it belonged to the Wu Household and was being driven by Wu Zhang himself.

Very soon the car reached the destination that was way too quiet and with a screeching roar, came to halt at a distance from the canopy of the East hill lake, disrupting the silence.

As soon as it stopped Li Jing opened the door of the shotgun seat and climbed out feeling a bit too dizzy, his footing slightly limped. He caught hold of a nearby tree with one hand and hunched forward before puking his guts out.

Wu Zhang didn't care to check on his secretary and with his long legs darted towards the canopy to go look for Song Jia who was nowhere in sight. The eerily quiet and inky dark atmosphere was in no way helping in easing his anxiety either.

His footsteps however halted when he reached the beginning of the canopy that had naturally formed due to the now bent wild trees standing on either side of the stone trail, making him confused for a short moment before his guards raised.

Li Jing who was still trying to catch his breath, lifted his head when a set of warm golden lights fell in his eyes, successfully catching his attention to look at the source of it.

He saw Wu Zhang standing at the mouth of the canopy, a small section of which, right over him was lit with strings of golden lights wrapped on it in an asymmetrical manner, giving the green leaves of the trees a yellow tint.

Always prepared for the worst, Wu Zhang's hand subconsciously reached for the flap of his suit jacket which was securely hiding a Desert Eagle[1] in its inner pocket.

After Li Jing saw the lights, he looked around in confusion in order to analyze the situation. And very soon, even though it was a bit dark, he spotted a shiny red Ferrari parked a few meters away from the canopy with a silhouette of what looked like Wei Xin, standing by it.

After seeing her standing so relaxed, his EQ which was the only thing that he had higher than his boss, who was right now reaching out for his pistol, gave him the notion that maybe the situation was not what he and Wu Zhang had thought it to be. 

He was feeling much better after throwing up, so he went to the car to fetch a bottle of water, with which he rinsed his mouth, before walking up to where the Ferrari was parked.

And his hunch intensified when he saw that it was actually Wei Xin standing next to the car with her back leaned against it, her head bobbed and her eyes focused on the phone in her hand. With her body language, she looked very much relaxed.
