Chapter 22
The First Request in the Royal Capital

[Well then, guess we’ll do Estel’s E-rank promotion request today.]

[Ara, I’m finally going to be the same rank as Onii-san and Noru.]

Having finished sorting out our equipment, we made for the Adventurers’ Guild. Our objective is getting Estel’s E-rank promotion. I fed Noru a MP potion to recover from her running out of MP earlier.
At the moment we entered the building, every other adventurer who looked our way quickly diverted their line of sight. Hーmm, did we really overdo it that much in our match with Dhius?

[I want to avoid travelling too far away if possible…]

[Ah, how’s this one look? It’s a subjugation request that isn’t too far from the Royal Capital.]

When we walked towards the request board(s), the other adventurers avoided us and a straight line to the boards appeared. Oioi, aren’t they cowering way too much!?
I looked through the requests that were on the board(s), but I’m only seeing requests from faraway villages. Here I was thinking there would be more subjugation requests for places nearer to the Royal Capital but looks like there’s less of those then expected.
As I was browsing, Noru brought 1 request application over.

[Uーmu, it’s a B-rank subjugation. The reward is low too.]

[I’m okay with anything so long as it lets me increase my rank.]

B-rank subjugation target, Eagle Warrior Chief. Target item, Eagle Warrior Chief’s Beak. These are the contents of the request.
This is an item delivery request, but the requested item is a drop item from a B-rank target, so this also doubles as a subjugation request.
We probably can hunt this without problems, but the completion reward is really low. It’s only 5000G for both subjugation and delivery. This looks like a bad request that was left behind because nobody wants to do it.
The reward for requests that have a client are usually decided by the client. Requests that have a low reward like this one will only stay stuck on the board.
Estel just wants to increase her rank so I guess this works.

[Ah, right. Please wait a moment… wuh, B-rank!? Ah, m-my apologies!]

I went to process the request, the receptionist was a lady I haven’t seen before. She was a young lady with long water blue hair. She also has a buxom chest, so she leaves quite the impression for anyone seeing her for the first time. Is she a new receptionist I wonder?

After handing the request slip to her, she was awfully surprised that it was a B-rank request and at our plates too.

[Err, my apologies but this is B-rank subjugation request. Adventurer-sama is currently only at E-rank so this isn’t a request that you can…]

[Ah, hold on there Wizzy. You don’t have to worry about these people here.]

[Eh, but…]

The usual receptionist called out to the puzzled girl. So the girl with the ample chest is called Widji. I’ll remember her name.
Anyway, what does she mean that there’s no need to worry about us. Just what kind of recognition of us is spreading in the Adventurers’ Guild.

[Sorry about this Okura-sama. This girl had travelled to another Adventurer Guild branch, because she has only returned yesterday she doesn’t know of the various circumstances.]

So she isn’t a newcomer but have been away huh. We had our match against Dhius yesterday, if she has only just returned that means she didn’t watch the match.

Her face turned red, and she started panicking in embarrassment.
But even so, “Dhius-sama” huh. Kuh, this girl is also one of his fans.

The Eagle Warrior Chief is found at the forest to the south of the Royal Capital. So we promptly made our way out of the Southern Gate, and started travelling to said forest.
I hide a Beacon in a bush that’s in a somewhat secluded area as preparation for our return. Even so, it’s a pain to always have to do this. I want to safely set up a Beacon inside the city already, it would work even if it’s some warehouse.

[Alright, we’ll be using this to travel today.]

[Ooh, it’s floating.]

[Is this really something that can be ridden on?]

It’s a drag to go to the forest on foot, so I took out a new item from my smartphone.

A carpet that has been magically enchanted.
It is possible to move it freely. Do be cautious and not ride alongside someone who is unlucky or dances on the carpet.

The SSR Magic Carpet. It is a carpet that is the size of one tatami mat. When I took it out and spread it on the ground, the carpet floated up to somewhere slightly lower than my knee level.
Like what Estel said, it’s kinda scary to think whether we can actually ride this flimsy looking carpet or not, but this is a SSR item so it’s probably fine.

[This stands out, are you sure about this?]

[Yeah, I’ll be using my MAP to avoid places where there are people.]

It’s floating properly, I don’t think there will be problems even if we travel some distance away from the main highway. It’ll be troublesome if we’re seen, but I have set the MAP to its maximum range so we’ll be fine as long as I pay attention.

[Alright, time to depart.]

The 3 of us get on, and set off on the carpet. Looks like operation of the carpet mainly depends on me who is the owner of the item, the carpet advances in the direction that I dictate.
I had a license for cars back in my own world, but I haven’t driven in a long time. So this gave me a nostalgic feeling of excitement.

[T-this is pretty fast…]

Feeling confident, I raised the speed a little. We should be moving at around 50km/h but it feels faster than that, maybe it’s because there’s nothing blocking the wind unlike that of a car.
I’m thinking maybe I should lower the speed, but then Estel is hugging me from behind. Sure I’m happy about that, but I can’t help but feel that she has been getting too much skin contact with me lately.

[Noru, are you getting carsick back there?]

[I’m alright~ I wouldn’t mind even if you went faster!]

This feels comfortable to ride. It’s pleasant as there isn’t much shaking because we’re floating. This feels like heaven after going through the hell that is riding a carriage.

We arrive at our destination some tens of minutes later. We were lucky as we didn’t encounter any other person on the way.
We would probably have taken way longer if we travelled on foot, these gacha items sure are convenient.

[This looks like the location where the subjugation target is.]

[Better not dawdle, there are monsters wandering around.]

[They’re all over the place.]

The forest spreads out as far as my eyes could see, it’s obviously much wider than the forest back in Brunne. At a clearing near the forest, human-sized monsters that have an eagle’s head can be seen walking out of the forest and around the area.
Blue feathers covered their bodies, walking on two legs and wearing armor, all of them were armed with a one-handed sword and a shield. Their legs are thin like a bird’s and have four toes. They look capable of moving at high speeds.
I’ll have a look at their status as usual.

Uooh, regular mobs have this kind of status!? They’re weaker than the C-ranked Ogre, but there’s easily more than 10 here.
Facing 1 at a time is no issue, but they’ll obviously all come rushing at you with their numbers. It’s easy to imagine normal adventurers dying here. No wonder nobody picked up this request.

[It has a whole bunch of flunkies around it too.]

Among the whole lot of them was an Eagle Warrior that was noticeably larger in size and was covered in red feathers. Dozens of eagle warriors were densely packed around that individual.
So that’s the target this time, the Eagle Warrior Chief. Let’s have a look at its status too.

Ah, this fella is dangerous. It’s on a level that most would avoid normally. It gives off the kind of feeling that you wouldn’t be able to defeat it without support and buffs.
It has almost twice as much as agility as Noru does. Me and Noru should be able to handle that, but it’ll be bad if Estel gets targeted.

[Estel, buff us with strengthening magic for starters. Can you damage them with AoE magic after that? Then Noru will be Estel’s wall against the enemies, after she is done with her area magic.]

[Roger that.]

[Fufu, that sounds like an easy job.]

For now we’ll clean out the other monsters in the area, leaving the warrior chief behind. All of them have high agility so they move fast. Besides, Estel will be generating all the aggro from the enemies so they will target her first.
It’s safer to have Noru who has higher agility than the mobs to defend her. In addition I have over 2000 attack power now plus my attack and movement speeds are almost double from before. I might not be as accustomed to battle as Noru is, but it shouldn’t be too difficult to hunt mobs of this level now that I have these boosts.

[Now then here I come, Ei!]

First, Estel buffs us with strengthening magic.
After that she goes on to wave her staff again, from which a magic formation appears with the warrior chief at the center of it. When the other eagle warriors noticed the magic formation, they immediately started looking around and made a beeline for us after they saw us.
Shortly after, the magic formation began to shine, and a small ball of fire appeared at the center of the magic formation. Said ball gradually grew in size, which then promptly caused an explosion after it became big enough.
Me and Noru took to the frontline with Pot Lid and shield in hand, protecting ourselves from the aftermath of the explosion. It’s quite the absurd explosion, smoke from the explosion was the only thing you could see before you.
Magic attacks mostly only did single target damage back in GC, but in this world it looks the be treated as a multi-hitting attack and causes more damage than just the base multiplier.

[Did we get them!?] (EN: flag collected lol)

[That explosion… It would be amazing for any of them to survive that!]

I wouldn’t be surprised if none of them survived that explosion. Right when I was thinking that, a lone eagle warrior came bursting out from within the smoke.
It was the red feathered Eagle Warrior Chief. It roared as it charged towards us. A red aura, similar to what Noru looks like when she activates her skill, thinly surrounds its body.
The were also other eagle warrior survivors and though delayed, they also charged towards Estel. The remainder that were outside of the explosion’s range also followed suit.
Reacting to stop the Eagle Warrior Chief which will be the first to make contact with us, I started running too.

[!? T-this one is so fast!]

[Okura-dono! Calm down! Okura-dono you should to be able enough to that much!]

I receive the one-handed sword that was swung down toward me with Pot Lid, and swing Bar for a counterattack. However, even with my current attack speed my attack was dodged before it landed.
After that I exchanged blows several more times, it’s attacks were grinding onto my armor while all of my attacks were dodged at the last moment. I was slowly chipping away at it with my wind magic attacks, but I wasn’t able to land a decisive blow.
Why is this happening, my attack speed is supposed to be higher than my opponent.

Noru was shouting at me, as she ran around cleaning up the other eagle warriors. You’re telling me to calm down but this…
I’m managing to maintain aggro of the Warrior Chief, but it was moving around and leaving behind red afterimages much like Noru when she has her skill active. If it decides to go after Estel midway, I’m not confident Noru can make it in time for a clutch save.

The Eagle Warrior Chief is running towards me again. I don’t think it’s possible for me to chase it and land an attack.
So this time I pushed out my Pot Lid the moment the sword makes contact, and repelled the sword. Whether this was unexpected or not, the Eagle Warrior Chief staggered and stopped moving for a brief moment.
Seeing my chance I stab it in the abdomen with Bar and it lets out a scream. Additionally the red aura around it disappeared, and it slowed down enough for me to be able to see it properly.
Looks like my Skull Ring activated and sealed that skill it was using. Now that the Eagle Warrior Chief’s skill has been sealed, its speed has dropped enough for me to handle so I unleashed a flurry of stabs with Bar.
With that, it finally ran out of HP and fell to the ground, it then became particles of light and turned into drop items.

[Haaa….Haaa…. The big monsters look oppressing because of their size, but these human-sized monsters are much harder to deal with.]

[Good work there. We’ve also finished up with the rest too.]

[Fufu, Onii-san really worked hard. You looked cool, but only a little.]

Looks like Noru and Estel have finished dealing with the remaining eagle warriors, a whole bunch of eagle warrior drop items are scattered around the area.
Haa~, so I’m the only one who found this to be dangerous, it’s just the usual for the 2 of them. I’m happy to get praised, but this also got me thinking that I really need to get stronger.
