The World of Deities Chapter 21

Chapter 21: Partners and Enemies

Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio  Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio

“Don't do that. After all, your results would be the same no matter how hard you study.”

“The First Fool has left, so the Second Fool gets the honor of having the title, ‘First Fool.' You can change your name and be called the Second Fool now.”

“Hahaha…”

A few students dressed in gorgeous long robes mocked Su Ye with glee.

Su Ye did not pay heed to them but said in his heart, “Assholes, you guys had better show some restraint. Don't anger me.”

Su Ye could not be bothered to argue and continued reading his book.

A few students stretched their necks out to look at Su Ye's book but realized that Su Ye had used a privacy setting. They pouted and continued with their jokes and games.

However, their eyes would dart toward the young lady sitting on Su Ye's right from time to time; she was reading a book with her head lowered.

To Su Ye's left was Hort. He would not get angry even though he was called “First Fool” or “Second Fool” by the rest of the students, always maintaining his smile.

The main reason why the students would not mock Hort too much was because the upper-level students were all Hort's past classmates.

A male student forcefully flicked Su Ye's head when he saw Su Ye not paying any mind to the rest of the group.

1

Su Ye knitted his brows and raised his head. He recognized the smiling male student. His name was Hutton, and he had frequently mocked Su Ye in the past.

Hutton shook his head full of pale blonde hair. He looked incredibly innocent when he smiled.

The male student who had left the school was humiliated by Hutton.

Su Ye recalled that it was Hutton who first called him “Third Fool” when he entered the class late in the morning.

“Drop the act. Everyone is having fun, so why would you be reading a book?” Hutton smiled as he looked at Su Ye.

“My grades in the past were not good, so I want to study hard now. We are all students, so there's no need for you to be like this,” Su Ye said calmly.

Su Ye lowered his head after he spoke and continued to scan through the courses of the new semester.

Hutton and the rest of the group instantly felt disinterested. They seemed to stop teasing Su Ye on the surface, but they secretly caused many disruptions as they talked about Su Ye's embarrassing stories from last year.

The disruptions affected Su Ye a little bit. It was only when the second class started and the teacher appeared that Su Ye could continue to read his book in silence.

Su Ye continuously allocated the rest of the courses during this class.

The languages of other races were too difficult to learn, and Su Ye was not prepared to touch them for the time being. He immediately classified them into “Boring and Difficult.”

Magical Mathematics and Magical Geometry might seem related to mathematics and geometry, but in reality, they required large amounts of knowledge on magic. These were complex subjects, and so Su Ye directly placed them into “Interesting and Difficult” after he flipped through the contents.

Su Ye's eyes lit up slightly when they landed on the content page of his meditation class.

Meditation was a core subject!

Meditation was a common path for both mages and warriors to enhance their abilities. However, since mages did not refine their Divine Power Bloodline, they required a longer period of meditation.

Su Ye already had plenty of experience in meditation. He believed that his improvements would far surpass his peers after he learned the meditation style of Plato Academy.

Su Ye quickly scanned through the contents of the meditation class. The disappointed look on his face grew more and more prevalent.

As it turned out, the history of humans wielding magic only spanned 300 years if he did not count in the Wizard Techniques, which were the predecessors of magic.

A hundred and twenty-six years ago, Thales, who was hailed as the Father of Magic, discovered the secrets behind meditation and eventually spread it down through the generations. However, compared to the other systems, meditation was still in its early stages.

1

Most of the other magic had inherent laws. Spells used by different people only differed in power and its details, but not its fundamental qualities.

Meditation was different. No one could find a method of meditation that was suitable for everyone.

Thus, the contents of the meditation class were very unorganized, most of them being sentences that glossed through the topic.

Su Ye was extremely disappointed.

When Su Ye was learning meditation back then, the first thing he had learned was “mindfulness,” a technique supported by psychology. Even though mindfulness could not be described as scientific, it was one of the most scientific approaches within the entire system of meditation.

With mindfulness as his foundation, Su Ye continuously practicing other forms of meditation, and his meditative ability grew stronger as a result.

Su Ye could understand why this was the case after he recovered from his disappointment. After all, the time this world had been exposed to meditation was too short, just a little over 100 years. On the Blue Star, the system of mediation was developed for over 2000 years and had been researched using the powers of technology. Even so, the understanding of mindful meditation on the Blue Star was still incomplete, with knowledge on the subject growing over time.

Even though the contents of the meditation classes were ordinary, Su Ye still placed it into the “Interesting and Simple” quadrant.

Finally, Su Ye divided all of the new courses into the four quadrants. The results were extremely clear, and Su Ye could take it all in at a glance.

The subjects in the “Interesting and Simple” quadrant were Fundamental Magic, Talents, History of Magic Spells, Offerings, and Meditation.

Fundamental Magic and History of Magic Spells were the foundation for everything else and consisted mostly of information that needed to be memorized. Su Ye was extremely interested in developing a well-rounded understanding of magic.

Talents and Offerings are closely related to the Wasteland Space. Offerings involved the deities, which was also something Su Ye was interested in.

Su Ye was also extremely interested in some other subjects, but they were unfortunately too difficult. He had to focus on them in the future.

An example was Magical Beasts. It looked simple on the surface but was actually an incredibly complicated system. Su Ye got a headache when he saw the large pile of specialized terms.

Finally, Su Ye decided to focus his efforts on Mathematics, Geometry, and Greek Language for the short term. At the same time, he'd take some time to study Fundamental Magic, Talents, History of Magic Spells, and Offerings. He wanted to ensure that he could at least follow the progress made by the teacher during those lessons as well as continue to practice meditation.

Su Ye started to deliberate after he made his decision. He wondered if he should increase his workload. After all, he could not be considered as “falling behind” in class. Instead, it was as if he had never learned about these subjects at all.

“I cannot be greedy and want to complete everything. I have to take smaller steps. I can slowly introduce more subjects if I find the current ones to be too easy. If I try to learn too much from the start, even if I don't give up on myself after encountering these difficulties, I'll still have to waste a good deal of time and energy.”

Then, the dismissal bell rang.

The class immediately bustled with commotion.

Su Ye did a final check and confirmed that his choices were rather good. He then found some time to draw up a detailed study plan.

Su Ye felt a little tired. He quickly stood up and stretched with a smile on his face.

Thud…

Su Ye felt a slight pain in the back of his head and started seeing stars.

Su Ye always had poor blood circulation when he sat for long periods and would see stars even if he stood up slowly. The shock he received from the sudden assault made this problem worse.

“Haha, Third Fool, you're finally standing up?” Hutton's voice spread throughout half the classroom.

Su Ye took a deep breath and turned around slowly to look at Hutton, who was half a head taller than he was.

Hutton was smiling and had his arms crossed in front of his chest. Behind him were two similarly muscular male students.

Su Ye looked at the formation of these three people and had a revelation. He had become the new target of bullying now that the other student had left the school.

The image of a boy crying suddenly flashed through his mind.

One day during the last semester, that boy named Peyrusse was crying while trapped in the corner of a wall. Su Ye had only taken a glance at him before he walked away in a hurry.

Su Ye could not forget the fallen leaf tightly clenched within Peyrusse's hand. He also understood why he left school.

Su Ye tried his best to remain calm as he said, “Hutton, we are all classmates, and I have not offended you in the past. I do not mind if you make jokes occasionally. We humans do laugh at each other and get laughed at from time to time.”

1

A few of the students around him gave Su Ye a weird look when they heard his words.

Even the young lady with blue eyes raised her head to look at him from the side.

Su Ye looked straight at Hutton and said, “But, you mock me every time class is over and sometimes even hit me. There's really no need for that. We are both students of the Plato Academy. The teachers have also said that the reason as to why they make so many of us sit at one table is to allow us to become friends. This is so that we can advance in the future and deal with external enemies together. We are partners, not enemies.”
