The Necromancers Chapter 25

"What's wrong?" As she rubbed her eyes, she slowly sat up and looked at me. "It's nothing!" I replied immediately. At this time, I realized something was wrong. It seemed that there were only two of us in the whole cave. Where did that boy go?

There was no place to hide in this cave, and there was no one outside the cave. Had the boy disappeared?

Did he wake up early and go out for fresh air? Even though I didn't believe this conjecture, I ran out to see if Burian would appear somewhere nearby. However, there was nothing outside. There was nothing moving in my sight, and it was impossible for him to go too far if he wanted to take a walk.

I went back to the cave to see if I could find any clues. When I came back, the little girl gave a note to me. It was a crumpled piece of cloth with some scribbles on it. Apparently he wrote it in the dark at night. It was not hard for me to recognize such scribbles. This was what Burian left. Specifically, it was a suicide note.

"Mr. Leder, I'm sorry I betrayed you. I'm really sorry, and I think I can't wait fifteen years. I took your dagger that can kill the necromancer. I will use it to kill Lewis and avenge my teacher. Please don't be angry. In fact, I hid something from you. My teacher left me a transformation scroll, so I can become a small animal to approach him quietly. I'm very sorry to you, Mr. Leder. Maybe I'll make you lose this artifact. I know whether I succeed or not, I'm unlikely to survive. I hope you forget me, and forget the apprentice who betrayed you. I'm really sorry."

He was such a reckless kid. I subconsciously touched my pocket, and then squeezed the cloth into a ball. How naive of him to think that this dagger could kill a necromancer. Lewis could easily feel the magic he use to maintain the transformation, and then crush him like an ant. He was not going to assassinate, but send the artifact to the necromancer in vain. My poor artifact—I hadn't even had a chance to use it.

"Hateful boy!" I scolded loudly, then I noticed that the little girl was looking at me in fear.

No, I couldn't just forget it. I couldn't lose the artifact I got. For this artifact, it was worth fighting with the necromancer. It was probably that he hadn't arrived yet. He probably got lost and wasted a lot of time. I should have a chance to catch up with him and get him back. By the way, I would hit him on his head to get rid of these stupid ideas in his mind. Right, that was a great idea.

I turned to face the little girl, and said to her, "Do you see that? Go there and you'll be at the foot of the mountain soon." I pointed in front of her and continued to say, "Then you can easily find people who can help you and let them take you back to the city. Don't worry, I'm just going to get that stupid boy back. I'll catch up with you soon." When I said the last few words, I was already running back.

I hid where I could see the hole and carefully observed the situation in this area. Two new ogre guards had been replaced at the door. Both of them looked nervous, not as loose as those two unlucky ones from before. I guessed Lewis must have made preparations to prevent similar matters from happening. The cave must be heavily guarded. Most probably he was in the cave and didn't go out, because he should have known that we had escaped from his control. It should have been like this, if not for that kid's whim. I didn't know if he had gone in. It seemed that I had to wait at the door of Lewis' house. In this way, when Burian came, I could see him and stop his stupid plan first.

Oh my God! My stealth magic could only be used by me alone. But it was too late to regret it. Never mind. I would figure something out then.

With the completion of my mantra, my body was hidden in the air. I easily passed by two vigilant guards. As long as I was soft-footed and didn't make any noise, they could not detect my existence at all.

I still remembered the way to Lewis' room, but the situation of the room by the road had changed. The empty room was full of ogres and giants whose snores droned like the distant roll of thunder. Maybe they were searching around the cave last night, so they'd just fallen asleep. The situation along the way was almost the same as last time. Almost all the guys were sleeping, and few were awake. I came to the door of Lewis' room without any issues. Fortunately, there were no guards.

Now, I would stay here. If that kid passed by, I would feel it.

Suddenly, there was a scream in the room. It was the voice of that kid.
