35 The Return Trip and Behind the Scenes Operations (revised edition)

La Faust Academy, special affairs room.

While gazing out the window, Kotokura Seiya was on the phone with some company's director for his job.

"Yes. The meeting is this weekend…yes, please. No, it's me who is still inexperienced…… Yes, then please excuse me."

Confirming that the call had ended, Seiya threw his smartphone on the sofa.

"……Ahh, how tiresome."

Seiya muttered while cracking his shoulders. The Kotokura family was based in Osaka, and he himself was from there. He was told that in general social situations, standard Japanese was more convenient, so it was drilled into his head from a young age; but try as he might, it just wasn't in his nature.1

"Even so, 's no good. I can't stop bein' irritated. ……To break an appointment with me's jus' messin' around."

Seiya was still stewing over what happened the day before yesterday. He couldn't stomach the fact that Toujou cancelled his discussion with him last minute and went to Reiryuu Academy.
It fully gave him the feeling that Reiryuu Academy was superior to him.

"……If it wasn't Toujou we were talkin' about, I'd crush him. Pisses me off."

Seiya vented to himself while looking out the window absentmindedly. However, the next moment, his gaze grew fiery as his eyes shot open wide.

"……Reiryuu's uniform……"

He couldn't clearly see the figure, but that monochrome color scheme was Reiryuu's, with the white skirt being its distinction.
A Reiryuu student was walking on La Faust Academy's grounds. Why would a Reiryuu student be here?
While Seiya was mulling over that thought, the female student disappeared beyond the gate.

"……tch."

Witnessing the number one thing he didn't want to see right now, Seiya chewed on his lips and picked up the phone he had thrown on the sofa.
He quickly tried to make contact, but no matter how many times he called, that person didn't pick up.

"That idiot!"

Saying that, Seiya stormed out of the special affairs room. He arrived at the library with alacrity and opened the door with a loud bang.
Exactly as he expected, the person he was looking for was there.

"Kyaa!"
"Uwah~, what's up, Seiya? How unusual."

At Seiya's entrance, a female student naked from the waist up covered herself and disappeared in the back. On the other hand, the male whose clothes weren't in the least bit disordered, Minohara Shin, waved cheerfully at Seiya.

"Is your smartphone a toy? I told you to pick up at the first ring!"
"Haha, sorry. It was getting good~"

Shin said enjoyably, dodging Seiya's anger.

"…And, what reason did you purposefully come all the way here for?"

Even if they argued about this kind of thing, it would be endless. When Shin asked that seriously, Seiya immediately regained his composure.

"A girl from Reiryuu came to the academy. Search for the student who contacted her. It's urgent."
"Reiryuu? U-wah, nice timing~. I wonder who it is, the idiot who stoked Seiya's anger."
"I'm tellin' you ta figure that out."

When Seiya quietly said that, Shin replied, "Roger," and smiled, leaving the library. Seiya didn't have any other business in the library, so he left as well.

"Eh, it ended without an acquisition!?"

Meru and the others stopped by dyed brown-kun's house on the way back from La Faust Academy.2 Since dyed brown-kun had said he was going to take the property handover agreement yesterday, dyed brown-kun's mom had been bedridden and she hadn't opened the café today.

Dyed brown-kun showed Sakakida's written oath to his surprised mother. It was important evidence that he wouldn't take part in anything having to do with the café henceforth.

"Thank you, Ryuu! Your father would also be thrilled!"

She said, crying as she hugged dyed brown-kun. While she did, dyed brown-kun smiled awkwardly and pointed at Meru.

"Kei's older sis saved me, she was seriously super cool, and that big-headed guy lost to her and looked so frustrated, I wanted you to see it too, Mom, seriously."
"Really! It felt like I was watching a TV drama!"

Top knot-kun said excitedly and directed a respectful gaze toward Meru. He had an entirely different attitude toward Meru than he did up until yesterday. To dyed brown-kun and top knot-kun, Meru was already a god.

"You guys are in a good mood, huh?"
"Ahaha, I'm not particularly…"

Kei smiled wryly and Meru also laughed dryly. However, the auntie who got up from the futon was truly grateful and she grasped both of Meru's hands firmly.

"Really, thank you. ……That store is incredibly precious to me… Thank you."

That thanks was heartfelt.
Meru was happy about that and smiled gently.

After relaxing for a while at dyed brown-kun's house, Meru and Kei headed home. As they were leaving, dyed brown-kun's mom said, "Whenever Kei's older sister comes to the store, everything is on the house!" and she seemed quite pleased with her.

"But honestly, Meru-nee. You were really amazing."

Kei told Meru while he walked next to her. Meru said, "Is that so?" and smiled, looking toward Kei.

"Meru-nee."
"Hm?"
"Thanks."

Kei smiled at Meru.
Meru didn't need to have anything to do with this incident other than Kei. However, Kei's friend was in trouble. In other words, Meru helped dyed brown-kun and his mother for no reason other than that Kei would worry.

"If it's for you, Kei, that's natural."

Meru closed her eyes and smiled faintly.

Looking at Meru's smile, Kei made a slightly uncomfortable face. When Meru directed her sight to Kei, he shoved her away from himself.

"Meru-nee, you're an i-diot."
"What, why?"
"It's nothing in particular. Repayment for when you said it before."

Meru could hear the laughter in Kei's voice. However, Kei's figure which Meru couldn't see was incredibly sorrowful.

La Faust Academy, special affairs room.

"P-Please forgive me! Minoharsama!"

Kneeling on the floor was Sakakida. And the one with his foot on his head, trampling him underfoot, was Minohara Shin.

"So sorryyy, there's no point in apologizing to me, you know? I mean, I'm not particularly angry or anything. The angry one is over here. You're mistaking the one you should apologize to, Sakakidchan."

Cackling, Shin pressed with more power and crushed Sakakida's face against the floor.

After he left the library, he followed Seiya's order and, exactly as stated, found the student who had been in contact with that "urgent" female Reiryuu student.
Seiya told him to bring him to the special affairs room, so Sakakida was brought to Seiya by Shin. Even if he wanted to escape, he couldn't. Those who would go against Seiya, at least in this academy, didn't exist.

"My deepest apologies! Ko-Kotokursama!"
"So he says? Seiya. Sakakidchan is taking the blame and apologizing, so will you forgiiive him?"

Shin looked at Seiya who was sitting brazenly on the sofa and said.
Seiya looked under Shin's foot with scornful eyes.

"Forgive? Don't make me laugh. If ya just communicated with a female Reiryuu student, I wouldn't have any complaints. But what's with your story? Ya lost to an ultra commoner in negotiations even though ya have both money and authority, so I can only think yer an idiot. What's more, the one ya lost to is a Reiryuu student? You're taking me too lightly."

Seiya's tone was extremely cold. His silent fury piercingly transmitted not just to Sakakida's body, but also to Shin's.

"Seriously Sakakidchan, your timing is too perfect, isn't it? It's a pity, but right now Seiya gets into a bad mood if he even so much as hears Reiryuu Academy's name, you know?"
"Shin. Shut up."

Seiya got up from the sofa and slowly approached the other two.
He stopped in front of Sakakida, pushed on Shin's chest, and crouched down.

"…..Hii!"

Seiya seized Sakakida's bangs and forcefully lifted his face.

"Well, it's fine. In the best case, droppin' out of school, in the worst case……your whole family crushed?"

Seiya said, fanning Sakakida's anxiety. He had the power to do exactly what he said. Hearing that, Sakakida's face turned white as a sheet.

"Please…please, anything but that! Kotokursama, please!"

Listening to Sakakida's request, Seiya smiled thinly.
It was a smile that anyone would take to mean his acquiescence.

"Who do ya think would listen to yer request? ……But that's right. In order ta locate that female Reiryuu student, I need you. If ya properly become my chess piece…… I'll forgive ya for this time?"

There was no saving grace in that. Sakakida couldn't reject him. Refusal meant hell. However, he didn't know. That becoming Seiya's chess piece would be the exact same kind of hell…

Having signed a contract with Sakakida, Seiya shoved Sakakida's head away with a level-headed gaze.

Sakakida who had lost his composure was already unsuitable to bear the word socialite. His hair which had been torn at was in disarray, and his uniform had become shabby.
In Seiya's eyes, everything about Sakakida was filthy.

Paying no heed to Sakakida lying face down on the floor, Seiya returned to the sofa he had been lying on just before..

Shin stared at Seiya with an air of enjoyment.

"And, what're you gonna do? Seiya. If it continues like this, La Faust's name is gonna be damaged, you know?"

Shin said with that same air. He didn't really care what happened to La Faust Academy's name.

Seiya's plans had been wrecked by Reiryuu Academy just the day before yesterday. That was plenty of incentive to begin playing with them to kill time.

Guessing the true motive behind Shin's words, Seiya cast his gaze out the window.
Lately, he was surrounded by nothing but boring talks. And at this perfect time, the main culprit behind Seiya's irritation conveniently appeared…

"Reiryuu Academy… Before you get carried away, I'll make you shut up."

Muttering that, Seiya's voice was incredibly cold.

 

1 I mentioned before that he uses the southern dialect, but whenever he's doing business, he uses standard Japanese.
2 No, I have no idea why Meru left earlier and then is suddenly with them again. :')

Seiya has problemsssss and needs therapy, meditation, or both. Lord. The god complex is strong with this one. Shin also has problems, tho. Big oof.

P.S. I had an oopsie in chapter 32 where I wrote Kinzou Zaibatsu instead of Kotokura Zaibatsu (kanji, man), but that's fixed now!
