Quick Transmigration - Counter Attack Of Various Characters 118 A Piece of Puzzle

With a start, he realised that it was the look of a person who had stared into the deep abyss and found it staring back at them.

A look that was only supported by people who have watched their entire world burn and scatter into the wind like ash in front of them as they watched helplessly, without the power to stop the carnage.

It was the look of a person who had lost their very reason to live and was just breathing to go through the motions and didn't care for the life and death of their person.

And another puzzle piece of the monarch slotted itself into Ning Fu's mind and seared it with a deeper understanding.

From that look, Ning Fu knew that the person the monarch loved had departed from the mortal world and if he recalled correctly, the monarch had begged and knelt to someone to spare the life of his beloved and cut a retreat root for him but it seemed that it was to no avail.

The one that occupied the monarch's heart had still died and it seemed like the monarch's heart had died along with it.

This acute understanding made him comprehend many other snippets of information he had intentionally or unintentionally heard.

First, the monarch and his beloved had been caught unaware of whatever situation that had propagated the end.

Second, the monarch had given up his self-esteem and self-respect to abase himself at another's feet to spare his beloved.

Third, the monarch had obviously failed at it and it had marked the end of that person.

Fourth, the monarch blamed himself for the outcome thinking that he could have done something else to save the said person.

Fifth, Zhou Sheng had been involved in all of this somehow but he had also failed in rescuing the two people before things took a turn for the worse.Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click for visiting.

He recalled the shouting match between his brother and the monarch a few days ago when the monarch had said that he had wanted to ask his father –the late emperor for help but the message had been instead been delivered to Zhou Sheng, by mistake.

Sixth, whatever had happened had left deep emotional scars on everyone involved.

What Ning Fu couldn't comprehend was the look of that Zhou Sheng supported whenever this topic was brought up.

Was the guilt for not being able to save the monarch's beloved?

Or was it because Zhou Sheng had failed to live up to what he thought the monarch expected of him?

Or was it something else that had been going on behind the scenes and Zhou Sheng had been privy to it but had intentionally or unintentionally kept the information from the monarch?

The training ground returned to their previous silence and Zhou Sheng watched the play of emotions on Princess's face and finally ventured forward when she didn't get out of her shooting stance even after a few minutes had passed.

He was worried.

After all, the bullet still had another shell inside it and though it wouldn't kill anyone instantly, it would hurt something fierce if that shell was fired at a human being.

What alarmed him, even more, was the look of sheer rage and bloodlust on her face and he wondered if the events of that night had not only affected her mentally and psychology but if she was even dealing with the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

He cautiously moved towards her.

Zhou Sheng softly tried to regain her attention.

"Your Majesty."

Tentatively he reached towards her, closed his hands around her shaking ones that still held the gun in a vice-like grip and gently lowered her hands.

When he tried to take away the gun, she fought against his hold so he let her be for the moment.

He could feel her entire petit frame shaking and couldn't help but pity the pair of lovers who had such a violent ending to their bright future.

Suddenly Su Liu closed her eyes and all she could see was the bruised and battered image of that person when she had returned to the warehouse with Li Rong.

She briefly leaned against Zhou Sheng as if trying to centre herself in the present and then a vicious thought streaked through her mind.

Su Li caught a fistful of Zhou Sheng's clothes, pulled him towards her and with clenched teeth hissed, "Tell me, tell me, you got revenge. Tell me, everything wasn't in vain."

Zhou Sheng's eyes widened in confusion and he haltingly replied, "Of course. I have always believed that revenge is a dish best served cold and I dished out everything I could for what happened to you. Do you doubt me on that?"

Su Li shook her head dispassionately as if whether he took revenge on her behalf or not wasn't important to her on a personal level.

"No. Not me. For that person. Tell me, you didn't become a mere spectator after I left. Tell me, you remained true to your words. Tell me you didn't side with others."

Zhou Sheng closed his eyes in remembered pain and when it felt like Princess couldn't take his silence anymore, he opened them again and there was a strange glint in his eyes.

"Yes. Yes. My answer is yes to all your questions."
