Queen of Science 10 Live!

"Dear Camilla Price,

We are intrigued by your business proposal. In exchange for the rights to use your mug customizer, we will offer you 50 percent off any mugs that you order. We acknowledge that you initially wanted 70 percent off any mugs; however, this is not a possibility for us. Instead, your first 10 customized mugs are free.

In order to show our sincerity, we have included a contract in the envelope that this letter came in. If you wish to make any changes to the contract, please sent a letter to the return address on the envelope with a new offer. In order to accept our offer, please sign the contract and send it to the return address.

Sincerely, John Smith.

Sales Manager of Rose Quarts Ceramics"

Closing the letter, Fern looked into the envelope and saw a folded-up contract. After unfolding the paper and briefly reading what the contract entails, Fern grabbed a black pen and forged her mother's signature on the bottom line.

Fern was initially hesitant to agree to Rose Quarts Ceramics' proposal, but she has already waited long enough to start the website. Also, all of the other companies that Fern contacted wanted to meet her in person. Obviously, this was not an option for Fern.

By outsourcing the mug creation to a company that specializes in mugs, Fern can guarantee that people who donate 20 dollars to Simply Explained receive high-quality mugs in a short period of time.

Fern does not have to waste time, money, and energy on creating a mug company. Instead, she can focus that energy on Simply Explained. As the saying goes, time is money.

In this universe, no one has invented a way to manufacture customized mugs in an efficient, cheap manner. Before contacting companies and offering to sell them the future technology, Fern contacted the government patent organization and received a patent for her "invention."

With this technology, customers can send in any picture and the company can make it for a few dollars! Previously, companies had to make a new machine for every new mug design. Fern's mug customizer will help companies save thousands if not millions!

Although this technology is revolutionary in the new universe, in Fern's mind, this technology is just a cute toy. It is not highly advanced technology and it will do little to help her future development, so she has no qualms about giving it to someone else.

As Fern folds up the contract and puts it in a new envelope, she adds another paper. On this paper, Fern informs Rose Quarts Ceramics that she would like to immediately purchase 50 mugs and stockpile them in inventory. Although this may seem like a large number of mugs, Fern expects that many people will donate to Simply Explained and the mugs will be sold out quickly.

Having all of the documents put into the envelope, Fern fills out the address of Rose Quarts Ceramics and includes Joe Stevens' name. Licking it shut, she sets the envelope aside and starts typing on the office computer.

Before Simply Explained can go live, Fern needs some people to monitor the forums and answer user questions. In order to find these people, Fern is going onto job recruitment websites and university career help websites. She also contacts the advertising department of MyRoom and purchases advertising space on the website.

Since the people who work for Simply Explained will need access to the internet, Fern is not making job advertisements for newspapers and magazines.

After an hour of typing, Fern feels satisfied with her work. Considering that most people will not be interested in working for Simply Explained until it is available to the public, Fern decides to not wait for applicants.

The website is ready to go live!

Closing the job requirements websites, Fern navigates to Simply Explained. On the upper right corner of the window is a button that only she can see. It says, "Publish." Below the button it says in fine print, "Once published, any member of the public will be able to access this website."

Taking a deep breath, Fern moves the computer cursor to the top right of the screen. Hovering the cursor over the publish button, Fern clicks left on her mouse.

On May 7th, 2054 the revolutionary educational website "Simply Explained" was revealed to the world!
