Without warning, a sudden force pushed from behind Jiang Xunyi and flung him forward into the golden light emitting from 《Rising Clouds, Billowing Skies》.
At the moment, he only had the chance to scathingly shout in his heart: "He Deng, you sneaky, conniving old monk!"
After a whirlwind of motion, he had just regained consciousness when he heard a soft female voice say, "Please speak."
This was...back to where he just remembered in the book! Jiang Xunyi wanted to speak, but found that he couldn't move his body. He Deng most likely wanted him to re-experience his past events, but didn't want him to be able to make changes.
Jiang Xunyi listened to the voice, then said bluntly, "Hey, my mission is to die under 'Yun Xie's sword', right? Can I just steal his sword and commit suicide"?
Customer Service: "..." It had probably never heard a host so blatantly try to haggle and argue, and its mechanical mind took a while to react.
Jiang Xunyi thought to himself: "Or maybe when he takes out the sword, I could throw myself onto it. Yun Xie takes me as a good brother though---I can't wound him like this. If I made him kill me, it wouldn't be a pleasant time for him."
When he said that, he couldn't help but scoff a bit, and added: "After all, you want the protagonist to be good, right?"
Listening to himself say this, Jiang Xunyi couldn't help but sigh inwardly and secretly curse: "You dumb ass."
(T/N: He says "蠢貨" here; kind of a "you dumb, bitch" moment. This is something a mob boss would shout at his underlings, or your very very strict Asian parent might shout after you get a B in AP Calculus BC. :) )
The customer service finally spoke, but its sweet voice seemed to hold duplicity as it said: "Don't worry about that much---I promise, your task will be extremely easy to complete."
At this time, he saw a flash of blue light from the corner of his eye. Jiang Xunyi looked back just in time to see Yun Xie hurtling towards his chest with the tip of his blade---!
Just now, while Jiang Xunyi was busy haggling and arguing with customer service, Yun Xie had walked alone for a while and had felt increasingly irritated. Though he originally hadn't wanted to talk but had nothing else to do, he had no choice but to fumble at small talk: "Where is this?"
Without giving Jiang Xunyi the chance to answer, he said quickly: "Hey, looking at it this way, you've already done so many wicked things and probably don't want to return. I heard that the far north is remote and desolate, a frozen and snow-covered land. Let's go there, just the two of us, and never return---what do you think?"
Jiang Xunyi did not answer, busy talking to customer service.
Yun Xie's voice suddenly raised in frustration: "You aren't willing?!"
He heard Jiang Xunyi scoff from behind him.
This laugh was like the last straw that overwhelmed the camel, and Yun Xie's little sanity was swept away. His slender five fingers finally clenched the hilt of Minghe's sword. He heard a voice from the bottom of his heart: 'I'll kill him, I have to kill him!'
If I kill him, he'll never be able to leave me, will never fall in love with someone else, will never be able to make me angry again.
Kill him!
——On the other end, Jiang Xunyi watched wide eyed as history repeated. The sword didn't hesitate a moment to pierce him; although he already knew the whole story, he couldn't help but sigh.
In fact, from the beginning to the end, he was not afraid of death, just unwilling.
The sword flew like a knife, its edge slicing past the tip of his ear and embedding itself into the rocks behind Jiang Xunyi. He suddenly felt his body become light again, and he realized he could move at will. Just as he tried to look back, he found himself held tightly in someone's embrace.
At the critical moment, Yun Xie had moved aside the Ming He sword so it wouldn't hurt Jiang Xunyi. Wordlessly, he rushed over and hugged Jiang Xunyi.
Yun Xie was trembling all over, as if still caught up in the fear of the moment, but his arms were still hugging Jiang Xunyi tightly. He used so much force, almost as if trying to shield Jiang Xunyi from all the pain and agony of the world, but also as if he never wanted to be separated from him again.
Jiang Xunyi finally understood that the Yun Xie in front of him was no longer the Yun Xie of the past.
In that moment of understanding, the scenery around him vanished into starbursts, disappearing into the air. In the blink of an eye, the two people were back inside that cold temple.
Master He Deng smiled radiantly and pressed his hand together: "Amitabha, did Sect Leader Yun hug enough?"
Yun Xie's face was no less thick than a city wall. Without any intent of moving, he stickly clung on and said "Even if I hugged an eternity, it still wouldn't be enough."

T/N: Wish I had a SO like Yun Xie bc after 6 weeks in self-quarantine I'm kind of convinced I'll be alone forever lmao.
