They looked ever so majestic and wise. Without thinking, Ngun Nu's younger sister called to them, "Oh, all the cranes that fly over me, have you seen my sister, Ngun Nu?" To her surprise, they answered her! "Yes, we've seen your sister. She is still alive. But she is in the far South, cleaning up after ox and cow dung."
Ngun Nu's younger sister found this hard to believe and waited until another flock of cranes passed by. Again, she asked, "Oh, all the cranes that fly over me, have you seen my sister, Ngun Nu?" Now, although the younger sister did not know it, Ngun Nu hadn't died quite yet. Instead, she had reincarnated into the body of a white crane. She so happened to be apart of the flock of cranes flying above her younger sister.
When she heard her sister's voice, she thought to herself, "that sounds very much like my sister!" Ngun Nu looked down and gasped as she realized the voice did, in fact, belong to her sister. She turned to her new crane friends. "Please, each of you take off one feather so my sister can become one of us," she pleaded.

The cranes all happily flew down and attached their feathers on Ngun Nu's younger sister, giving her wings. They guided her across the sky and helped her get used to her new wings. "Where are we going?" questioned the younger sister. Ngun Nu flew over to her to explain what was to happen next. She explained that they were heading towards their new home.
"Listen carefully. Whenever you come across a small river, always make sure to exclaim loudly, 'oh! It is quite a small river!' And whenever you come across a big river, always make sure to exclaim loudly, 'oh! It is quite a big river!'" Ngun Nu instructed carefully.
Her younger sister promised to do just this before Ngun Nu flew faster to catch up with the rest of the cranes. Ngun Nu's younger sister did as she was instructed to do for a while and everything was going well. They had almost arrived at their new home when they came across another river. This one was a large river, but the younger sister accidentally exclaimed, "oh! It is quite a small river!"
With this, her wings began to wither away and the beautiful white feathers rapidly fell off, creating a whirlwind. The younger sister screamed and begged for help as she began falling towards the big river, but nobody could help her. They were all too far away to catch her before she fell.
So Ngun Nu's younger sister plunged into the depths of the river beneath her and a huge fish, mistaking her as a crane, devoured her.
