[SS] The Flowers Talk in Silence

Theo Kearse was a young man working in a certain flower shop in the Royal Capital.

The flower shop he worked for had a full lineup of flowers as its merchandise. It was a lively long lasting shop that had some fame, and Theo took pride in being able to work at such place. Today too, while choosing some flowers and making a bouquet according to the request of the visiting customers, Theo was unable to stop his leaping heart.

――Today, is "her" visiting day.

As he muttered that in his heart, Theo's lips started to slacken. The shop owner, who was his own father, stared at him puzzledly and let out a deep sigh, but it was none of Theo's concern right now.

The only thing floating up in his mind was the figure of a certain young woman. Her light color hair was plaited in a chignon style and she wrapped her body in a simple yet graceful dress. Theo guessed that she was most likely a certain lady of noble origin.

Once a week, 'she' came by herself in order to buy flowers for decorating her estate, however Theo knew nothing about 'her'. Not even name, family, or lineage. It was just, when Theo looked at 'her' gentle and calm smile, when he realized it he had been captivated by 'her', and had always been looking forward to the time 'she' would visit the shop again.

――I am, falling in love with her.

Since when had he realized that? For him to be falling in love with a lady whom he knew nothing about but face, whom he met only once a week, moreover who was most likely a lady of a noble house, he had certainly never would have thought about it until now.

Despite saying it so himself, Theo was aware that he was quite popular with women. How grateful he was for inheriting not the looks of his boorish looking father, but rather his graceful mother.

Theo thought that the word [nice young man] could never suit a man more than it suited him. As the attractive flower shop's son who attracted the customers, there was an endless line of women who went to the shop aiming for Theo. And that did not only applied to just commoners, but even noble ladies too, and so Theo's evaluation of himself as a [nice young man] couldn't be said as him just being excessively self-conscious.

Meanwhile, young man around his age who envied him called him a [feeble man], [womanizer], [playboy], and saying whatever they wanted, but Theo didn't care about it.

What helped him to be able to think like that was, the one Theo was thinking about, it was 'her'. Currently Theo could proudly think of himself as the successor of the flower shop, but it was not the case at first. When Theo started taking over the shopfront, "a man in a flower shop?", certainly he had such dissatisfaction at first.

While carrying those thoughts, Theo kept on serving the customers mechanically with a noncommittal attitude. However, 'she' said to such kind of Theo.

――The bouquet you made makes the flowers themselves look happy and sparkling.

At that time, Theo for a moment hadn't understood what 'she' had said. To the bewildered Theo, 'she' just giggled and smiled gracefully.

'She' didn't have an appearance worth mentioning to be praised as beautiful or pretty or adorable. 'She', who was at most normal, perhaps could only get "well, her skin is beautiful…right?" as the best praise 'she' could have. However for some reason, 'her' smile had captivated Theo's eyes. As if entranced, he couldn't look away from 'her'.

Certainly, Theo was skillful in making a flower bouquet. His skill was something that was recognized by his father and his mother, he even had request from not only commoners but also nobles which proved his skill even further. However, he felt that he just couldn't be proud of it. He thought it wasn't something consequential. However, the moment he heard ‘her' words, he started to think of his hands as something wonderful. He felt proud for having someone else think of his hands as something special.

That was why, perhaps it was since that moment. The bouquet, which Theo first thought as something that was the same no matter who made it, became something special that could only be made no one but him. And then, he ended up attracted to ‘her'.

Thus the seed of love that was planted that day grew each day, and when he realized it, it had sprouted and bloomed.

It wasn't like he didn't think about their status difference as a noble and a commoner. However, ‘she' was someone that made him think that ‘she' would take Theo's hands without minding about their social position. (T/N : another preposterous peasant)

Today was the day ‘she' would come to the flower shop. And Theo had decided that he would finally convey his feelings to ‘her' today.

After all, the other days, the Demon King had finally been defeated. For the parade of the Hero Party's triumphal return, the flower shop Theo worked at felt like it was almost turned upside down by the number of flower orders which were used as decorations throughout the Royal Capital.

Even during the time the Hero Party had gone on their journey, 'she' also visited the flower shop, however 'her' smile at those time was always clouded. That calm, gentle, and kind smile of her somehow turned into a smile mixed with loneliness and impatience.

Even if 'she' lives in the Royal Capital, 'she' must still feel uneasy. It's natural. That's why if I am to erase 'her' uneasiness, then― He had thought that numerous times.

However, there are certainly limited things that someone like him, who only met her not more than once a week in the shop could do. Giving 'her' an extra flower everytime 'she' came to buy bouquet was the most he could do.

But, that kind of things will end today.

Today was the day that Theo would finally convey his feelings to 'her'. He had already prepared a special bouquet for that reason.

From now on, if he could stop from only giving her flowers in silence, but to be able to stand by her side and wipe her tears, take her hand, and look at her smile as the person nearest to her, then… If that could be turned into reality, how happy will I be? Theo started to dream about it.

Aah, won't 'she' please come here sooner――――……

"Good afternoon"

Theo was startled by hearing that gentle voice. Panickedly he turned around and as he expected, 'she' was there. That's great. That's great, but…

"Go-good after-noon?"

Theo's voice had strangely squeaked, but it wasn't something that he himself had realized.

But, it was natural for Theo to end up that way.

Before Theo, 'she' was smiling gently. However her smile wasn't only the gentle and kind smile that Theo had seen, and by no means was it a smile mixed with loneliness and impatience. It was easy to see with one glance that it was a brilliant smile filled with happiness and joy.

As that smile entranced Theo and left him stiffened, 'she' tilted her head as if troubled. Instead of being plaited, today her soft pale hair was left to flow freely on her back added with a few drops of perfume, making them looked alluring. The dress on her body wasn't the usual elegant dress that was a little bit too simple and docile for a young lady to wear――or if to be said frankly in one word, [plain]. Her dress today was a captivating graceful and gorgeous lavender colored dress of a popular design.

"So, pretty"

"Eh?"

When Theo unconsciously muttered so, 'her' eyes blinked several times in surprise. 'She' looked at him as if feeling strange, and when Theo finally realized his own remark, he panickedly waved his hands with vigor. And then at this critical moment he used his [nice young man]'s famous refreshing smile on her.

"No, umm, it's because you have a different atmosphere around you today. That dress suits you very well"

"My, thank you very much. Fufu. Today is a bit special, you see"

'Her' fair cheeks were blushing, and as 'she' giggled like always, 'she' smiled at him embarrassedly. He once again felt that he was captivated by that smile, and he trembled as he felt joy enveloping his body.

Aah, I see. I see it now. Perhaps there's no need to guess, 'she' too, was coming today to tell [something] to me――to this Theo Kearse. (T/N : Dream while you can)

That [something], 'her' [words], I really want to hear it from the bottom of my heart, but, no no no, it shouldn't be like that, it can't be like that. Theo straightened his thought. To have a lady saying that first would be a man's shame. As expected, I need to say it first.

As soon as he had straightened his determination, he brought the special bouquet he had previously hid near the shopfront, and presented it to 'her'. Even while 'her' eyes turned to dots from the surprise, Theo only satisfiedly looked at that expression.

After all this bouquet was a special one. He used plentiful of roses and lilies which were raised in a greenhouse and were unaffected by season change. It was a very gorgeous bouquet. If I present this, there's certainly no woman who wouldn't be happy. I'm sure even 'her', would understand my feeling from this bouquet.

"This, would you please accept them?"

"Eh, ah, but……"

"This is a token of my feeling! Please accept them!"

As if forcing it, he pushed the bouquet to 'her'. 'Her' bewildered expression, perhaps affected by the sweet fragrance of flowers, softly loosened.

Seeing her soft expression, Theo thought that his feeling had finally reached 'her' and slackened his cheeks――and soon, Theo frozen up.

"Filimina"

"My, Eddy"

From behind 'her', a very beautiful voice to the point it was frightening was heard, and Theo's mind came into a complete stop.

Leaving behind that kind of Theo and the big bouquet in his hand, 'she' turned around and trotted up to the tall man wearing a hooded overcoat. From standing right in front of him and then becoming so distant just like that, Theo could do nothing but to see 'her' off.

"Have you finished your business with the bookstore keeper?"

"Yeah. Since there's a new work from the author that you like, I bought it along the way"

"My, I'm so happy. Thank you very much"

It's easy to understand who the man with beautiful voice that was talking with her intimately was.

Who's that? Why is he talking so intimately with 'her'? Guessing from their conversation, it seems he is 'her' companion, but couldn't he not come out at that timing?

Feeling the unreasonableness and irritation in his heart, Theo's gaze naturally turned grim and was directed at the man standing beside 'her'. Perhaps that man realized that gaze. That man walked up to the flower shop front as his hard heel made a sound for his each step.

Looking closely, that man's tall figure became even prominent, and Theo was forced to look up to see him. Even so, it was as if that man didn't even realize Theo's undaunted glare that was directed to him, as that man took a glance at the shop front. Then the fair hand sticking out through that overcoat picked up a single daisy which was decorating the vase in the shop front.

"Filimina"

"Yes?"

"Come here"

"Oh my, what's wrong?"

As 'she' tilted her head in confusion, 'she' once again stood in the shop front, in front of Theo……or in other words beside the man. Holding 'her' chin and fixing up her posture, the man put the daisy in his hand on 'her' hair near her ear. 'She' opened her eyes wide, and Theo felt her eyes would perhaps never be able to be wider than that.

As her pale hair adorned with that lovely white flower, Theo could see that rather than the gorgeous flowers Theo tried to present to 'her', this little flower was much more appropriate and suitable to her.

It seemed 'she' was late in understanding what was done to her, as her face beginning to blush and she gazed down on her feet. She, who's always so gentle and modest, could make such expressions? She could make such a gesture? And what caused 'her' to do that was not me, but that man.

As Theo unconsciously dropped the bouquet in his hand, that man glanced at him. His expression was hard to perceive, but somehow, those dazzling morning glow eyes pierced through Theo just like that.

"This is the money. Keep the change"

The man turned towards the stiffened Theo and flicked something with his finger. Theo reflexively caught it with both hands, and then looked towards the thing he had on top of his palm. It was a very high payment for just one single daisy, a big gold coin that's shining brilliantly.

"Wai……―!?"

Theo unconsciously raised his voice towards the man who casually threw that coin which could be compared to Theo's monthly income, however it was too late as the man had left the shop. Beside him was 'her', as they walked hand in hand with their fingers entwined.

At that moment, Theo understood that he had lost. No, that's wrong. Certainly he had lost since the beginning. After all, her figure as 'she' smiled next to that man, was more beautiful than any of 'her' that Theo had ever seen until now.
