Xia Rou saw Wei Qi waiting at the school entrance as she arrived. He was tall and handsome, and was extremely eye-catching.
"Xia Rou!" The moment he saw her, a smile bloomed on his face.
Bright like the sunlight.
Xia Rou's mood was like the calm after a storm. She smiled and stepped forward to take his hand.
"Have you eaten yet?" he asked. Translated by The Novelst
"No," she replied. "Why are you here all of a sudden? You didn't even call me."
"Let's go eat," she said, pulling him in the direction of the cafeteria.
Wei Qi had only been working for one year. His income wasn't as high as it had been when she met him in the past. But whenever they went out for a date, he would never agree to splitting the bill with her.
So normally when he came to visit her she would take him to the cafeteria to eat dinner.
In this life, she chose to live on campus and stay near her classmates, living with her roommates under one roof, so now she had experienced the differences in economic situations.
Although Wei Qi was inexperienced now when compared to his own self, his heart was bright. He was still observant, so her taking this into consideration made his heart warm.
He stopped her and smiled. "Let's not go to the cafeteria today. We're going out to eat to celebrate."
Xia Rou smiled and asked, "What's the good news?"
Wei Qi wanted to be reserved.
He hadn't even brought it up in the office, laying low.
But standing before the girl he liked, his small achievement… he couldn't hold back and wanted to tell her immediately, wanting her to be happy together with him.
So, unable to hold back any longer, he said joyfully, "I got promoted, and I got a raise!"
He was a little proud and excited about the future.
The girl he liked curved her eyes into crescents and smiled sweetly. "Huh, really? That's great!" Wei Qi's full expectations turned into a joy that could be shared with others.
The two held hands, looking at each other with smiles…
Haiz, so silly.
Cao Yang was stopped at a red light.
He was looking around when something caught his eye.
A slim figure with long, somber black hair curled gracefully and behind her…
A young, handsome man one head taller than her, holding her hands, head lowered slightly to look at her. His eyes exuded tenderness and love, the corner of his mouth curled up in a smile.
His gaze was focused on the girl; he said something and then… lowered his head…
The girl was on her tiptoes…
In the evening of early spring, a sweet kiss on the street took place.
Only when the car behind him honked loudly did Cao Yang recover. He released the tight grip he had on the steering wheel and changed gears.
Then, he took another glance at the couple.
The young couple was obviously surprised at the sudden honk and had turned his way. Her face was beautiful, but it wasn't the person he had imagined just then.
It wasn't Xia Rou…
Cao Yang accelerated and the car roared past the intersection.
Xia Rou received a call from Cao Yang.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
"I'm eating," Xia Rou said, biting the tip of her chopsticks.
"At the cafeteria?" Cao Yang heard that the noises in the background sounded different. He could hear faint music.
"No, outside."
"With your classmates?"
Xia Rou looked at Wei Qi, and slightly embarrassed, said, "With Wei Qi."
There was a pause on his end before Cao Yang let out an, "Oh."
"Are you driving right now?" Xia Rou asked. His voice was a little distant like he was connected over bluetooth.
"Mn, I'm on the road."
"Drive safely," Xia Rou urged. Thinking for a bit, she said, "Tell uncle to eat less meat at night and to drink more soup."
She was nagging like an old grandmother. Cao Yang didn't know what to say to her.
He answered helplessly, "Got it, you nosey girl. Go home early, don't stay out too late."
A joyous response came from the other end, "Mn, don't worry! Wei Qi will take me back to the dorms later."
Cao Yang answered, "Alright," and hung up the phone.
He focused on driving.
The weather was going to warm up soon.
Xia Rou went back home and spoke about a few places already overrun with blooming cherry blossom flowers.
"Just another month and it should be better. Let's go look then!" She said, making plans with Cao An.
Cao Yang looked at Xia Rou chatting with Cao An and Cao Xing quietly.
Cao Bin would occasionally lift his eyes to look at Cao Yang.
Another weekend went by before Cao Yang received a call from the guards at the entrance.
"Someone claiming to be Miss Xia's father came by. I called Miss Xia and let him into the house. I reported this to the commander just now and thought to report to you as well…"
"I got it. Thank you," said Cao Yang.
He put aside the things he was working on and went downstairs.
At the entrance of the small living room, he saw his father standing there quietly. Both his hands were inside his pockets and his stature was steady like a mountain.
Cao Yang walked closer. Cao Xiong glanced at him.
They were separated by a thin wall and could hear the sobs of the man inside the living room, pouring out guilt and fondness to his daughter.
Once he was done with the touching stories, the small living room filled with silence.
After a while, Xia Rou asked, "Then what do you want me to do right now?"
Xia Hongjun said, affectionately, "It took me so long to find you. I want you to come back home with me. Xiao Rou, I'm sorry. Come back home with me. I'll make it up to you."
Cao Yang balled his hand into a fist.
But neither man outside the living room moved.
They all wanted to hear Xia Rou's answer.
Silence filled the small room. Translated by The Novelst
Outside was also quiet.
After a very long while, Xia Rou's voice sounded.
She said, "Alright. I'll go with you."
