Cao Yang was truly busy the last few days.
When he rushed to the show, the first half was nearly over. He made it just in time for Xia Rou's turn.
"Really, it wasn't me! How could I do such a thing?"
"Don't you dare deceive me again! I've seen through you already!"
After that, the lead raised his hand angrily… and gave the evil cannon fodder a slap. Behind the stage a boy held a microphone up to the clap! of another's hands, and a pak! echoed across the stage.
Cooperating with the loud sound, Xia Rou turned her head to the side when Wei Qi's hand fake-slapped her face.
Cao Yang: "…"
He facepalmed. Translated by The Novelst
It was so fake…
He found it funny as he watched the stage. It was indeed a show performed by students. No matter how hard they acted, they were still only a bunch of students.
But fortunately it was fake. Who would dare actually slap Xia Rou? Even if they were just acting, Cao Yang wouldn't let them off easy.
His character had always been like this. He tended to side with the people he cared about. He couldn't bear to see the person he protected suffer at all.
But he could see that Xia Rou was acting with all her being. Although… her acting seemed very fake…
Cao Yang then remembered that he had previously been to the theatre with Wang Man. It was up to his standards. Mm… before this, he didn't know she was interested in this kind of thing. Maybe he could get his hands on some tickets and take her…
After that scene, it was time for intermission. The audience stood up for a bathroom break or to get a drink, so he walked out for a smoke.
Girls who walked past him would throw secretive glances at him. When he smiled back, blushes would overtake their faces.
Standing in the young crowd, Cao Yang couldn't help but remember his young and arrogant self. He exclaimed to himself that time really waited for no man. He looked again at the young girls who were the same age as Xia Rou. A hint of a smile could be seen in his eyes. It gave the young ladies present the wrong signal, causing a few of the brave ones to come up and strike up a conversation with him.
Among them, there was one with a very slim body that fit his taste well. When he asked her grade, he found she was only about 19 or 20. Cao Yang took another draw on his cigarette and still rejected her with a smile. She was disappointed as she left.
If he ate the grass around her burrow, Xia Rou would likely explode. Cao Yang could only regretfully watch the girl walk away, her slim waist swaying.
While he smoked, he overheard a discussion from some students. It looked like one of the reasons that this show was overflowing with people could be credited to Xia Rou.
"The female cannon fodder is so pretty! What major is she from? What year is she? Why haven't I seen her before?"
"Don't you know her? She's a freshman. A new beauty in the Chinese major track."
"She studies Chinese, huh. No wonder her temperament seems so nice!"
Another group of girls gathered to discuss Wei Qi.
"That's the guy from last year, right? I remember him!"
"He's so handsome!"
"Let's go get his signature later!"
"Why not just get his phone number!"
"Hahahhahahaha!"
The corner of Cao Yang's mouth quirked up as he listened. But a sentence stopped him: "Don't you think the male lead and female cannon fodder are more well-matched than the male lead with the female lead?"
"You think so too?"
"They look really good together!"
Cao Yang listened for a while before gritting his teeth. Seeing everyone rushing to the theatre again, he stubbed out his cigarette and followed them in.
After watching for a while longer, he couldn't deny that… what the gathered gaggle of girls had said made sense. Their Xiao Rou and that male lead kid… were indeed well-matched.
He couldn't help but lift his brows.
Xia Rou didn't have very many scenes. After a while she could grab her lunch.
She had told Cao Yang all about the plot, so he knew she didn't have any scenes left. He went backstage and called a crew member to ask after Xia Rou.
When Xia Rou heard there was a "super tall, super handsome soldier" looking for her, she didn't even take off her costume before running out. With just a glance she saw Cao Yang waiting for her.
How terrible! He actually lied to her and told her he couldn't come!
A bright smile bloomed uncontrollably on her face.
The staircase to the curtains had people blocking the way, so she couldn't go down. She jumped down to him instead. Cao Yang smiled as he opened his arms wide to catch her and carry her down from the stage.
Xia Rou only hugged him for a moment before releasing him, scowling with displeasure. "You're so bad! You said you couldn't make it!"
Her voice was a little too loud. Though they were behind the curtains where the audience couldn't see them, one of the crew members turned his head around to shush her.
Cao Yang also put his index finger in front of her mouth to keep her quiet.
Xia Rou covered her mouth and shrunk backwards. Her eyes roved before she pulled Cao Yang's hand to walk against the wall, bringing him to a door behind the curtain that lead to a separate hallway. The two slipped secretly out that door.
After the door shut, the sounds from the theatre became distant. There was no one in the hallway and it was so quiet that even their footsteps echoed.
"You're so annoying! How could you lie to me?" Xia Rou punched him a few times.
Cao Yang laughed out loud. He grabbed her arms so she couldn't punch him any longer. "If I were to tell you, there would be no surprise!"
"So bad!" Xia Rou pouted. Translated by The Novelst
