Wu Wan was mentally debating. "Fine! Let's regard this as her good fortune!" she finally spat before she got up and left. Xiao Qizi and the other servants hastily followed behind her.

The old mama guarding Nan Yan's cell could hear a ruckus inside but did not dare to go have a look. Upon seeing Consort Kang finally come out the door, she hurried to pay her respects.

"Guard this criminal well. Do not allow her to commit suicide," Wu Wan said coldly. She left after making sure the mama understood

After confirming, Wu Wan and her followers had gone far enough, Ran Xiaoyu sneaked her way in also to where Nan Yan was held. She rushed inside the cell only to be greeted with the spectacle of her friend lying unconscious on the floor.

She rushed forward to help her. “Nan Yan, Si Nan Yan, wake up! What's wrong with you?”

With her efforts, Nan Yan managed to slowly regain consciousness. On the verge of death, she opened her eyes and whispered, "Xiaoyu, when did you get here?"

"I arrived a while ago, but I was waiting outside for them to leave first before coming."

"Oh…"

"You, Consort Kang had her servants beat you up until you're like that? She can't do that. Why didn't you call out for the guards?" let people hit you? Why didn't you call her for lynching you?"

Nan Yan bit her teeth and said weakly, "She would have just threatened them to stay silent about it…so what's the use? No one could have stopped her."

"Unless…"

"Unless what?"

Nan Yan snapped out of her thoughts and looked at her. "Nothing. Help me up." she said softly, but blood had flowed out from her injury as soon as she had opened her mouth. Ran Xiaoyu quickly held her up just as the mama came to check up on them. She was frightened by the sight in front of her.

"Hey, what's going on?!"

Nan Yan looked up at her and before she could say anything, the old mama asked Ran Xiaoyu, "Aren't you her roommate? How did you get here? Leave quickly! If anyone finds out, there will be trouble."

Nan Yan panted heavily. "Elder mama, Xiaoyu is here to see me. I have something to say to her. Elder mama, please make an exception for me."

Then she slipped the ring that she had brought off her finger and put it into the mama's hand. Elder mama hesitated, but ended up saying, "This is the last time I help you. I'll wait outside so whatever you have to discuss, do it quickly and have her leave."

After that, she left with the ring.

Ran Xiaoyu helped Nan Yan to the bed to sit her down and wipe her mouth with a handkerchief. Nan Yan's body twitched from the pain.

Ran Xiaoyu said softly, "Nan Yan, if Consort Kang really wants to frame you, what would you do?"

Nan Yan bit her bottom lip and lowered her head not speaking.

"You asked me to look for an eunuch who has an injury his forehead. I went to Zhong Hua Palace, but I didn't find anyone that fit the description."

Nan Yan's heart sank after hearing this.

Nan Yan quietly pondered for a long time before gently saying "She framed me, but I don't think she's the one who sent people to kill me."
