Chapter 1
JESUS: UNDERSTANDING THE MYSTERY AND POWER OF HIS NAME 1 THE WONDERFUL NAME OF JESUS
In order to fulfil the practical aspect of the training of the twelve disciples, our Lord Jesus once commissioned them to preach, heal and deliver the captive in HIS NAME.

Mark 6:7, 12-14

And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth

His Name, that is, the Name of Jesus was spread abroad as this was the tool used to accomplish their divine commission. The twelve disciples must have been surprised at the tremendous results as they ministered in Jesus Name and with His authority.

The scope of this missionary work was later expanded to include the seventy as recorded in the tenth chapter of Luke. Their divine commission like the first twelve was to preach, heal and deliver.

What an excitement! What an Holy Ghost inspired Joy! The seventy returned with Joy having seen the tangibility of divine power over serpents, scorpions and over all the power of the enemy. All these happened through HIS NAME. What Jesus would have done, HIS NAME did through them.

This wonderful name must have provoked their praise, worship and love thus fulfilling the scriptures.

Song of Solomon 1:3-4

Because of the savor of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.

Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

There is a good ointment in that Name. The Virgins love His name because it brings progress. If your life lacks results it will lack attraction. It is a reserved name given to Jesus to bring into subjection in the three worlds everything that hurts.

Every time that Name is mentioned in faith, the anointing that goes with that name is released to remove burden and to destroy demonic yokes. It cannot fail except when you open yourself to disobedience and rebellion in your Christian walk.

Ecclesiastes 10:1

Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savor: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honor.

The twelve disciples must have been very jealous of that Name and their exploits. John, the beloved, must have remembered the word of Jesus which says

"He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad" (Matt.12:30)

He must have become more confused when he heard Jesus teaching as he puts a personality to His Name. Jesus said

Mark 9:37

Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.

The great disciple John answering for the rest could not fathom the unqualified use of HIS NAME as they have once stopped a fruitful ministry of His Name because the person involved did not belong to their group. Hear this.

Mark 9:38

And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.

The disciples were jealous of a man who healed in Jesus Name, because they are more concerned about their own groups' position than assisting to free those troubled by demonic oppression and possession. Their titles as commissioned preachers were more important to them than the purpose of God in honoring simple faith of a believer. Many today in the body of Christ are taken over with worldly titles at the expense of divine approval. The anointing should confirm your title and not vice-versa since your title does not impress God. Approval of God upon a vessel is based on his depth in God, integrity in life and ministry and the grace of God (wisdom and power). But hear Jesus reply

Mark 9:39

But Jesus said, forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.

What Jesus wanted His disciples to know is that discipleship has its place in the kingdom work but it does not and it cannot take the place of the unqualified use of HIS NAME. Jesus and His Name are both gift to the church and the world. The only difference is that while the world have not known the great offer of God in the gift of Jesus, the church on the other hand do not know of the great investment of God in that exalted Name.

The weakness of frail creatures inspired by faith and confidence in the omnipotence of the Almighty Name of Jesus begets courage, success and victory. God who was as loving, kind and considerate in the days of old is also as loving and good today.

The Name of Jesus is a sacred Name. It is a family and it is an Almighty name. let us see the post-resurrection account of that wonderful Name by frivolous and wicked sons of one of the Jews.

Act 19:13-16

Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

How useless and meaningless are the efforts of those who oppose God and how worthless the refuge in which they vainly seek to shelter. What is the glorious Name of the Lord to reprobates!

God's method of deliverance are always simple, looking foolish to the human mind. Thank God, human reason and mentality are made by God not to rule the human spirit but to line up with God's thoughts as revealed by his word. Impossibilities do not challenge God and he cannot be too late for any emergency. He has given us the unqualified use of His Name. His Name is Wonderful. His Name is mystery. That Name belongs to us. That Name is worthy of our praises.
