The Song of Spirits Volume 2 Chapter 28

Chapter 29 Acceptance of Marriage

“Aren’t you a couple?” Aunt Wang asked them. The residents all became silent.

Ye shook his head with sadness. All the people there felt so awkward. They were looking at each other, without saying a word. A little girl outside the house said to her mother, “Mom, they are not a couple. Why did they sleep together in Uncle De’s family?” Her mother took her to another side to slap her, and rebuked her, saying, “How dare you say any nonsense about our saviors?”

Though their voices were lowered, the rest of those present all heard the talk, and felt more embarrassed. Aunt Wang patted her leg and laughed, and said, “It doesn’t matter. You are such a natural match; why not choose a good day to get married? We can hold the wedding for you.”

The leader of the village nodded immediately. “That’s right! We should hold a wedding for you.”

Ye became even sadder. But before he could refuse their good intentions, Lotus spoke. She said, “So we thank you for this.”

Ye was shocked. He turned his head toward Lotus, seeing her eyes were clear and there was no sorrow in them as before. Her words sounded like they were from her heart. Ye couldn’t believe it and he stood there without a word.

Aunt Wang saw this situation had changed, and she led the residents out. “You have a good rest here. We will now go to discuss your wedding.”

After a while, all the people dispersed, leaving the new house to them. Ye was so excited. He said to her, “Lotus, you don’t need to go along with the marriage. . .”

Lotus smiled slightly. “Ye, I already thought it over. When we were at Mt. Huang's, if it were not for you, who saved me, I would have been dead. During the years in the Blood Gone Cave, it was you who kept staying with me and comforting me. For so many years, you poured all your cares and feelings on me. In the whole world, only you love me with all your heart and soul. You worried about me all the time. If I don’t love you, who else is worth my love?”

Ye felt moved, and his eyes frowned as he thought. But he still had many doubts. “How about Canyi? You already forgot him?”

Lotus turned her back to him and said, “I need someone who loves me with his full heart, not someone focused on his career. He . . . has no fate with me.”

Ye’s voice trembled. “Are you speaking from your heart?”

Lotus nodded. “My dream is quite simple. I just want to be with my true love forever, where we both live a peaceful life. That’s enough. Ye, marry me. Xin Yuesong should have been saved by the clan. You don’t need to worry about him. From now on, we will stay here to live a good life, okay?”

Ye asked an abrupt question. “Where is your mother, Lotus?”

She gave him a bitter smile. “My mom died very early.”

Ye felt sorry. She continued to explain to him. “When I was sixteen, I got the strength I have, inherited from my ancestors. Through that strength, I can feel the other lives with the same blood. So I discovered the truth that my mom had died when we were taken to the Blood Gone Cave.”

He had not guessed this story, but now he understood why Lotus had not mentioned her mother for a long time. He accompanied her during this sorrowful moment. After some time, Lotus wiped her tears and asked him, now with a smiling face, “Would you take me as your wife?”

Ye’s voice began choke up. “I have had this dream for so many years. I have thought that it was broken. But I don’t expect . . .  Lotus, I will try the best to make you happy.”

When he said this, he took Lotus into an embrace.

Her fragrant smell entered his nose, and he touched her hair as the wind passed by the leaves. A feeling of happiness filled him as he had never before experienced. However, he missed the sorrows in Lotus eyes.

Right at that moment, a girl coughed outside. Ye released Lotus to check on the sound. He found a girl was standing outside. When she saw Lotus, she smiled and said, “Sister Lotus, Aunt Wang asked me to make a wedding dress for you. Would you let me take your measurements?”

Ye welcomed her and said, “How should we call you, sister? Thanks for the concern about our wedding.”

The woman smiled and answered him, “I have no fine name. I am the third child of my family, so my parents call me Three Wang. You can call me Sister Three. I am good at making dresses, so it won’t bother me.”

Lotus bowed to her and said some words of greeting. Three Wang stared at her face and asked, “Why does our new bride look so unhappy?”

Lotus smiled and denied this. “How can I be unhappy? Being able to marry someone who loves me truly, I am already the happiest person in the world.”

Three Wang took out a measuring tape to start her work. “So you are very lucky. People all boast that you two were a match by heaven. How I admire you, that you can marry your true love. We only have one true love for our whole lifetimes, but it is not easy to marry that one.”

Ye felt so happy that he again missed the sadness in Lotus' eyes when she heard the sentence “it is not easy to marry that one”.

Sister Three understood everything. Her eyes suddenly turned brighter, and a weird smile appeared on her lips. But she didn’t speak anything.
