Qin Zhiai laboriously squeezed Gu Yusheng into the car. Even though he was on the backseat, she was afraid that as he was completely intoxicated, his body would knock and bump around, and so she helped him fasten a seatbelt.
On the journey back home, Gu Yusheng's eyes were closed, and his mouth continued to murmur endlessly.
Qin Zhiai devoted her complete attention to driving, and didn't attentively listen to what he was saying. When they were almost at the villa, Qin Zhiai put on her Bluetooth headset, and rang home to tell the housekeeper to come out to receive them.
When the car drove into the villa, the housekeeper was already waiting. Once the car stopped, the housekeeper immediately went over to welcome them. Qin Zhiai pulled open the car door. When the housekeeper saw Gu Yusheng sitting inside, she was taken back by surprise. “What happened to Mr Gu?”
“He got drunk.” Qin Zhiai indifferently replied. She then reached out and started to pull Gu Yusheng out of the car.
The man was a bit heavy and pulling him out was a strenuous task. The housekeeper quickly moved forward to help. The two, one person on the left and one on the right, transported Gu Yusheng upstairs and placed him onto the bed.
“Go make some honey water.” Qin Zhiai shortly ordered the housekeeper and then stripped off Gu Yusheng's dirty coat, took it to the bathroom and threw it into the dirty clothes basket.
Qin Zhiai pulled out a towel and soaked it with warm water. After wringing it dry, she wiped Gu Yusheng's face and neck clean. Afterwards, she pulled across the blanket on the side and covered him with it.
Qin Zhiai stood up and when she was about to return the towel back to the bathroom, the housekeeper came into the room with a cup of honey water. “Miss, give me the towel and get Mr Gu to drink this water.”
Qin Zhiai lightly nodded, accepted the cup and handed the towel to the housekeeper in passing.
She sat at the bedside, raised Gu Yusheng's head slightly, and sent the cup to his lips.
Gu Yusheng was extremely drunk. Under her light coaxing, he only drank two sips and then turned his head away.
Qin Zhiai had no choice but to place the cup down onto the bedside cabinet. She glanced at the housekeeper who was keeping watch at the side of the bed, and lightly said, “You can go to rest now.”
“Okay, Miss,” the housekeeper replied. She stayed where she was for a moment and then said, “Miss, if anything happens, you can call for me at any time.”
Qin Zhiai gave a light “Hm” to express her agreement, and only then did the housekeeper very quietly leave.
As soon as the housekeeper closed the door, the entire bedroom became peaceful and quiet.
Qin Zhiai was afraid that Gu Yusheng, who was lying on his back, would vomit again and choke on his own spew so she didn't leave and kept watch on the side.
Gu Yusheng didn't sleep soundly. His mouth moved unceasingly and as the evening stretched deeper and deeper into the night, and the world grew more and more peaceful, Qin Zhiai was gradually able to clearly hear the words on his lips.
“Gone, Nothing now… Nothing…”
Nothing? What's nothing? Qin Zhiai brows lightly furrowed and she couldn't help but move closer to his lips.
“Captain Gu… Chief Gu…”
He was saying ‘nothing' just a second ago, why has it now changed to ‘Chief Gu Captain Gu'? Qin Zhiai grew more confused the more she listened.
“Captain Gu… Dream of mountains and rivers[1]… An inch of soil is an inch of blood[2]… Stake one's life to protect the country…”
Dream of mountains and rivers? An inch of soil is an inch of blood? Stake one's life to protect the country? Qin Zhiai's mind instantly flashed back to eight years ago, on the lawn of his villa, him staring at the starry sky with a cigarette in his mouth while warmly and slowly telling her that blood-stirring[3] dream of protecting the land of his country.
While Qin Zhiai was lost in past memories, Gu Yusheng whose eyes were closed, started mumbling yet again, “Chief Gu so, so awe-inspiring… Everyone envies him… I envy him too… Haha…”

[2] Is part of the famous catchphrase一寸山河一寸血,十万青年十万军 by Chiang Kaishek during the war against Japan, to call for the intellectual young men around the country to enlist. Means: "An inch of soil is an inch of blood, a million of youths are a million of soldiers." Explanation: "As every tree is worthwhile in the bush and even a little water counts in the river, so hundreds of thousands of young people can make a huge military." (Translation and explanation taken from: )
[3] 令人热血沸腾 ‘…telling her that dream that set one's blood blaze/got one's adrenalin pumping/got one's blood boiling…'
