Talented Magus 4 Moonligh

Surrounded by the many necessities in which daily life requires of him, a young boy no older than the age of twelve stood, motionlessly. Staring at his palm, many thoughts circle throughout this boy's mind.

This boy, was of course, Rayford.

Rayford had just gotten home after the very dazzling experience of getting tested for his attributes. It seemed he was a talent that came only in a thousand years, a talent that any country or even continent would fight to have by their side.

Three attributes.

Rayford Ketch had three attributes:

Fire, Earth, and Lightning.

Rayford had an inference on the matter. If magic attribute was directly related to the user's soul, then maybe his soul or the soul of the previous owner of this body had 2 attributes, while the other had one. This was a wild guess, after all, there isn't a single source that said attribute related to the soul, and he had nothing to base his thoughts on other than:

"I used to live on Earth and the 'soul' sounds magical."

Putting aside unnecessary thoughts, Rayford walked towards his window and touched it. Upon receiving his touch, the previously pitch black window turned transparent. Rayford merely wanted to look at this foreign world's beautiful night sky— it had become routine. This world had five different moons. Three of which, shown both during day and night, while the two only came out when the sky went dark.

Green. Violet. Yellow. Lavender. Scarlet.

These were the colors each of the five emanated, probably due to the sun being a red giant. This unique scheme of colors allowed for the most beautiful night sky Rayford had ever seen, and as of late there had been something to compliment it.

A beauty.

About one strata after Rayford had come to this world, a peculiar girl took her rightful place in the beautiful scene unfolding before him. After entering the mana gathering stage, Rayford could finally tell what she was doing there every night.

Apparently this girl had a special form of light magic— the moonlight variant. The only difference this magic had from normal light magic is its color and its ability to be cultivated more quickly under the light of the five moons.

The scene unfolding before him had put Rayford into a daze. With beautiful chestnut colored hair, gem-like blue eyes, and a face and physique any man would die for, whilst being complimented by the splendor of the night sky shining upon her white robes, this girl had unparalleled beauty. While it seems creepy on his end, Rayford had opened his window every night to simply watch her.

Still, now that Rayford could see mana after entering the mana gathering stage, he saw exactly how this unknown beauty trained. It seemed much more dignified than the basic training manual that he received upon leaving the attribute testing area.

The basic training manual Rayford received detailed the easiest way in which one could further their prowess. Vortex cultivation.

To put it simply, one had to gather mana by creating a vortex of external mana around them that funneled into their body. Once it entered their body, they had to direct it to the heart, the heart would them pump the mana throughout the body and learn to accept it.

This girl was doing something very different. She threw pulses of her own mana into the air, and using the connection established with her mana, she pulled it back into her body and directed it into the heart. This worked because the pulses would grab the mana in the air and increase their own volume. This way, the girl didn't lose any mana creating a vortex so her gains doubled and she could repeat the process infinitely, with the drawback of taking more time than normal cultivation.

"Alright... her system seems much more efficient than the basics... I'll do the basics for a while to grasp mana control and then use her method." Rayford said.

At the arrival of this decision, Rayford fell out of his stupor, sat on the ground crisscross, and began cultivating.

...

Two hours had passed and Rayford felt that he finally had sufficient control over his mana. He looked outside and saw that the beauty had left, leaving him uninterested on the outside scenery. Rayford had gotten bored of cultivating, and was left with two choices as to what he could do next.

Rayford could either practice that girl's efficient cultivation technique, or practice the basics of spell casting. Although it was near midnight, Rayford had no thoughts towards the subject of sleeping. He had MAGIC, who in the world would be sleeping right now?

Putting aside the thought of that girl's cultivation method, Rayford began thinking of what he could do for his first spell.

An all mighty fire ball spell, destroying all that lay in its path?! A robust earth wall spell, defending its caster from impending calamities?! Or even... a lightning bolt spell, taking the world by storm?!

'No... it is too late to try any offensive spells...' thought Rayford.

After decisively putting the thought of epic offensive spells aside, Rayford dedicated his thoughts to casting an earth wall spell.

"If I recall... the spell casting books I read went over the basic method to invoke spells." said Rayford.

Rayford began recall what he needed to do to cast a spell.

'First I need to push mana out of my body... the eyelids are the best for this job, since the skin is thinnest there.'

Rayford focused on his heart, and felt it's pulse. After maintaining his focus for a few seconds, he let his mana flow naturally from his heart, while guiding it to his eyes.

'Next... I need to direct it wherever is most convenient outside of my body. Most beginners direct their mana to the top of their palms since they are apart of the most visible limb on the body— the hands.'

Making use of his innate creativity and visualization abilities, Rayford imagine his mana being redirected to his hands. Once they arrived, Rayford went directly onto the next step. Establishing a connection with the elements.

Rayford wanted to use an earth spell, so he pushed the intent to change his mana into the earth attribute onto the mana he had gathered. Taking a moment to sense the mana around him, he had noticed a dark green pigment shown around his palms.

It was time. After clasping his hands, Rayford went into a squatting position and forced both of his hands upon the hard wood floor of his bedroom.

Next, he requested that his mana be spread out in front of him, and imagined that the mana formed a perfect rectangular shape.

"This step seems unimportant... who am I even asking to spread my mana for me? Still... this is what the book said to do."

Now that the mana was in formation, Rayford assigned a direction in which his mana could unleash, and let go of his control.

Almost as soon as Rayford relaxed his control on the mana, the hardwood floor around the area in which earth mana was gathered instantly turned into stone, and a wall towering an impressive 1.75 meters was erected.

"Ah... if I had added even twenty percent more of my mana... I would have broken the ceiling." Rayford said.

After knocking on his first spell for a while, Rayford realized something very crucial. He didn't know how to dispel this wall he created. He tried multiple things, such as establishing a connection to the earth mana within it and pulling it apart and breaking it directly. It just simply wouldn't go away.

"Tch... now I have to read again."

...

Two hours had passed since Rayford created the wall, and he had finally learned how to dispel it. Rayford focused his intent on the wall, and mentally asked it to disappear. As if to respond, the wall crumbled and the hardwood floor regained its former wooden glory.

After practicing the production of earth walls for another half hour, Rayford had finally satisfied his mana reserve.

"Time to get some rest... it is almost morning and I haven't even slept." Rayford said

*Knock Knock*

"Oh son of a..."— Rayford who was previously walking to his bed, changed his course to the direction of his window —"What's at my window this time?"

Over the course of the strata he had spent in this world, many smaller animals tended to hang by his window and annoy Rayford throughout the night. Rayford had gotten into the habit of chasing them away, and as such walked to the window and pressed it as if it was routine.

To his surprise, all Rayford saw was a pigeon with a piece of paper tied to its leg.

"Gimme."

Unraveling the paper and reading what content lay on it caused Rayford to smile.

"TRANSCENDENTAL ACADEMY — INVITATION."
