Behind the stone house.

Xuanji was absolutely appalled by what had just taken place. Though she purposely wanted him to head to sea, not a single person had sought her opinions on the competition at all. It was as if she, Long fuiren(wife), was as good as dead. And the most hateful of them all, Long Fei Li, had actually agreed without hesitation. In the end, did she want him to win or lose, she silently wondered as she glared at him through narrowed eyes.

Long Fei Li was also silently gazing at Xuanji, the corner of his lips hooking up in a smile. In the next instant, he leaned in and pressed his lips against hers.

Xuanji was momentarily stunned by his action but she quickly regained her senses and struggled to free herself.

He held onto her tighter and whispered, “Don’t make a noise, the people out there will hear.”

Xuanji was furious but she didn’t dare voice her anger and could only let him continue with his kiss until they were both out of breath. Finally, he released her and said, “I’ll ask the

Village Chief’s wife to help arrange your lunch. When I come back, I’ll prepare dinner for you. Didn’t you say you wanted to eat something I personally caught and prepared for you?”

Her heart suddenly stirred with a troubled feeling. She couldn’t meet his gaze and lowered her eyes. Quietly, she whispered, “You should quickly go.”

“Alright,” he said, turning to head towards the sea.

Watching him walk away, Xuanji suddenly called out, “Long Fei Li, be careful out there.”

His steps halted and he turned around. His eyes fastened onto hers, staring at her deeply for a moment before he turned and continued to walk away.

Xuanji could still feel a lingering warmth on her lips from his kiss as she turned to gaze at the boundless sea on the horizon.

Once he returned, she would already be gone, she thought to herself.

She smiled but her smile seemed somewhat vexed.

Suddenly, a droplet of water fell upon her cheek. Looking up at the sky, she saw that it was indeed rain.

In the next instant, she was startled by a roaring thunder, issuing from the direction of the sea. As her eyes followed the noise, she saw large dark clouds gathering in the far distance, engulfing the skies. In the blink of an eye, a strong gust of wind stormed by, stirring up the gravel on the ground, making it hard for her to even stand steadily.

What was going on, she wondered. Full of doubts, she looked towards the sea and her vision was consumed by the sight of the raging waves, rising and crashing amidst the roaring thunder. The violent wind continued to howl as leaves and branches of trees, unable to withstand the pressure, were swept away.

Very quickly, the storm had engulfed everything in rain.

If it was like this on shore, what was it like at sea? Gritting her teeth, Xuanji sprinted forward, continuing ahead on the road, not daring to spare another glance back, afraid that if she did, she would not be able to leave.

Taoyuan Village. Seashore.

Leaving their dwellings, the villages had all gathered along the seashore. Watching the brooding storm, everyone was consumed with worry.

Their fathers, sons, and husbands were all still at sea!

Watching the storm continue to rage, a group of young men secretly thanked the heavens for their good fortune that they did not head to sea today. How long has it been since they had such terrible weather? Facing such a storm at sea, they feared that death was only inevitable!

Gathered amongst the villagers were Song Ni and her mother. With red-rimmed eyes, Song Ni anxiously murmured, “How could this be? Today’s weather…shouldn’t be like this.”

Growing up along the coast, they all learned how to predict the weather and would do so daily before deciding to head to sea to fish.

Trembling, a man voiced, “Yes, why did the weather suddenly change?”

With all the villagers gathered in one place, some people were trembling in fear, others shaking anxiously, with even a few women bawling on the ground.

“You all have forgotten? The same thing had happened just recently,” an old man suddenly said and shook his head.

Hearing this, everyone suddenly began to recall that particular day. The day the sea monster had appeared, the weather had also taken an abrupt change just like today. Fortunately, that day everyone in the village had gathered in town for the market. They had been able to avoid a calamity that day but the same could not be said for the neighboring village where many men had gone to sea and lost their lives.

According to the surviving fishermen, the sea monster was fierce and gruesome, like a gigantic fish comparable to the size of a small ship, with razor-sharp teeth, and scales hard as armor.

That day when their ship was sailing out at sea, the sea monster had approached and tried to swallow them whole. A few fishermen were able to jump ship and escape death but they still sustained grave injuries.

No one was willing to mention what happened again….Many fishing villages had stopped heading out to sea for several days, only resorting to fishing in the shallow waters. These few days, the seas had been so calm that everyone had believed the sea monster was gone. Hopeful that the monster had retreated to the bottom of the deep sea, the fishermen felt assured to venture out fishing again.

Growing increasingly louder, the cries of the villagers intermingled with the crashing waves and howling wind.

Suddenly, someone pointed to the distance and said, “Look, what’s that?”

Everyone looked in the direction of the sea. The sight of an approaching ship sent everyone in a frenzy. The villagers all ran over, greeting those that had returned. Reuniting with their loved ones, cries of happiness and relief rippled through the crowd.

They had all returned safely!

Kneeling on the ground, a woman repeatedly kowtowed and said, “It’s the blessing of the Dragon Empress.”

Those that had returned were all gazing in the direction of the snow-white figure. Shaking, the Village Chief said, “Fortunately, gongzi was with us this time. If it weren’t for him, we would all be dead.”

The villagers were all momentarily stunned, their gaze turning towards Long Fei Li. How could this young man have saved everyone?

With a stricken expression, a man recounted, “We encountered a sea monster out there. If it hadn’t been for Long gongzi who injured it, we all would’ve been swallowed alive by that monster.”

Other fishermen began to recount what had occurred at sea. Hearing their stories, people began rushing towards Long Fei Li to voice their gratitude. As this happened, Shui Shui had remained quiet, watching on the side silently with his lips tightly pursed in a hard line.

Song Ni was taken aback by what she heard but her heart was full of joy. Along with the other curious village girls, Song Ni also went up to surround Long Fei Li to ask questions.

“Where’s my wife?”A faint voice sounded amid the crowd, overshadowing all the hustle and bustle.

“Yes, where is Long fuiren?”

At this time, the villagers suddenly realized that they hadn’t seen that  petite young woman since earlier on.

“Don’t worry, gongzi, she may be at the house…” Before the Village Chief could finish his words, Long Fei Li’s eyes flashed with a sharp glimmer, the corner of his lips rising as he sneered, “How could she possibly still be at the house?”

The chilling tone of his voice coupled with the dark expression in his eyes as his words fell made every involuntarily shiver in silence.
