Isekai de Mofumofu Nadenade Suru Tame ni Ganbattemasu. Chapter 24

hello all, if you guys haven't seen it yet go and read the manga https://mangakakalot.com/chapter/dc919039/chapter_1 hehehe its worth it, the story is a little different but nema is still adorable.
this one is so long lol, also so for being late i deleted all my files so it so time to get those back. as always let me know my mess ups. Thank you
(Poor Nema lol)

A small incident has occurred!

Well, as expected, there was a bit of an uproar over the whole cheek incident.

The maid saw my cheek, and so she told Merges, who then reported it to Papa, who then came storming into my room.

Papa was furious because he was also informed that Annly was in my room just before the maid saw my cheek. It’s okay to be angry, but can you stop making such a racket in my room. You’re upsetting Nox!

At any rate, I explained the situation to Papa, and warned him that because I am in the middle of an intense bout with Annly that he shouldn’t interfere.

He then looked very dejected, perhaps because he felt that he been left out.

I’m sorry, Papa. I knew you would kick up a fuss if I told you what was happening. That is why I never said anything. It wasn’t because I hate you or anything, okay?

And so, in that sort of fashion, I consoled Papa while his head hung low.

While I was at it, I took the opportunity to ask Papa to not fire Annly.

I mean, it would be in poor taste if she got fired, wouldn’t it? I have to make Annly want to quit.

“You remind me of Cerulia, Nema…”

I can understand that.

I am my mother’s daughter after all.

For the time being, and as a formality, Papa gave a light lecture to Annly.

I thought that she might just quit then and there, but it seems that after apologizing she said she will continue to function as our home tutor.

However, the number of days she tutors has decreased!

We enter a new year… Ah, the Gachet Kingdom’s National Foundation Day in autumn marks the beginning of a new year!

The Kings’ parade throughout the royal capital, and festivals are held throughout the country.

I’ve never been to a parade or festival. It’s dangerous, there are just too many people. Festivals have so many people that you cannot even walk straight, there are also pickpockets, and I could even get lost…

I really wanted to see the gallant figures of the Gizzelle(?) though.

I turned five years old, and when spring came Papa was forced to go out for a territory inspection.

On a whim I said that I wanted to go too, and Papa quickly said that it was ok.

That was rather anticlimactic, or perhaps I should just say weird. Papa, you’re up to something right!?

“So you are going to accompany me on my inspection of the northern region then?”

“Yes. But I’m a little surprised that you said it would be okay, I thought for sure you would say no.”

As usual, I acted friendly in front of Annly.

Ever since the incident, Annly stopped disciplining me, and our lessons moved away from manners to more traditional content.

I gave up on the töre, a stringed instrument similar to a violin, after realizing that I had no talent for it, and so I switched to the purée, a keyed instrument that is more like a harpsichord than a piano. I’m… well… reasonable at playing it. Leaving that aside however, where are the percussion instruments! Where!!

I also started to learn how to ride a horse. I want to be able to ride all by myself as soon as possible, and so I got Lestine and Uwaz to help me.

During winter I studied embroidery and knitting, and during spring I was taught flower arrangement.

Embroidery and knitting was honestly quite fun.

If I concentrate on doing simple work over and over again then I can enter a trance like state, and when I wake up from it my head feels refreshed.

My flower arranging is often called creative…

It looks like I have absolutely no talent when it comes to the fine arts!

“Now then, I will hand you your homework, make sure to finish it by the time we next meet.”

Homework!!

I thought I was going to go to the territory inspection and have a wonderful time with all of the fluffy animals there!

“…What is my homework?”

“Inspect the territory, and write down your thoughts and feelings.”

So in other words she’s telling me to hand in a written description of my own thoughts!

I thought she was going to ask me to do something harder.

“Follow your father around, and think and ask specifically about how, for example, the inspected areas could be improved.”

Ehh! … Annly, you’re in league with Papa!! That’s why Papa allowed me to go with him so easily!

“Specifically… sounds like fun!”

Of course I don’t actually think that! Give me back my fluffy animal self-healing time!!

Now then, Asdelon’s largest continent is the Larshia Continent. Its shape is similar to that of a butterfly.

Our country, the Gachet Kingdom, occupies one quarter of the continent’s land area.

In the east is Wise territory, an area rich in minerals and other various materials. It manufactures coins, and contains many workshops that deal in pottery, glass, silverware, etc, and thus is well known for being very industrial.

In the west is Myuga territory, it faces the ocean. There is also a river that crosses the area. For those reasons it is known for having fisheries and being a commerce city due to its trade and goods distribution. There are also many affluent people there.

In the south is Dilta territory, the weather is calm, it is known for farming wheat and vegetables, as well as its cow and pig husbandry.

In the north is Osuphe territory, one third of this area is mountainous. It has harsh cold weather, and because it has no chief industry, people find all kinds of ways to earn their keep. Along the mountains are lumber mills, in the plains are dairy fields, and the cultivation of crops and flowers that are resistant to the cold in the capital.

From what Papa described it as, I imagine it’s a lot like Hokkaido. I will admit that my imagination might be a bit on the weak side, but if you say cold weather and the advancement of every industry then the only thing that I’m going to think of is something like Hokkaido or Tohoku.

There probably won’t be any marine products, but it would be nice if there was yummy food there. Plus, cold areas could mean a lot of rare animals.

Papa has to go to the royal palace. There it seems he will meet up with two of his subordinates and they will travel using transfer magic.

In this world there is incantation magic and pattern magic. Incantation magic involves reciting magic words in order to activate magic. Pattern magic uses magic circles and expressions of gratitude, the magic will then activate if you speak the keywords. You don’t need to recite any magic words; it also has the benefit of suppressing the amount of magic it consumes. However, preparing such magic is quite difficult and so it is only used for large-scale magic.

Transfer magic is one such large-scale magic.

There is equipment in the royal palace for transfer magic, and is thus connected to the other main cities.

Papa took me with him to a room with the equipment. I say room, it’s more like a cellar.

It’s about as tall and wide as a gymnasium, and in the very middle is a stand made out of stone. On that stone there looks to be a magic circle written on it.

There were jewels laid all over the circle, except in one spot. The spell works by placing a pair of jewels, one in the empty spot and the other in the destination’s magic circle.

The paired jewels are securely managed in separate rooms, which are also managed by dedicated magicians.

By the way, the person who created this equipment was elder Sasser. That old man, without realizing it, he has gone and created some amazing magical devices.

While Papa was talking with the magician, I decided to go and take a peek at the magic circle.

As I got closer to the magic circle stand, I tried giving it a nice long hard look.

The magic circle was carved into the stone stand, and an incredibly fine pattern was arranged in a complicated fashion.

The person who carved this must have some sort of divine skill…

It felt like something would happen if I touched it, so I left it alone for now. If I was teleported away all by myself then I might end up lying dead in a creek.

“Shall we head off, Nema?”

Yes, let’s go.

I was urged by Papa and slowly made my way up the stand.

It’s kind of exciting!

“Now then, we shall take our leave.”

“Very well. Please take care of yourselves.”

The magician gave us his regards and placed the jewel into the stand.

Suddenly, the magic circle started to shine, and sparkling particle like objects danced and shone.

Oh! It’s like diamond dust. But this won’t be bad for our bodies’ right?

“Ascenta!”

As Papa spoke the activation word, the number of sparkling particles increased, and it became so dazzling that I could no longer see what was around me.

Even so, I wanted to see the moment when we transferred, and so I squinted my eyes, and tried to hold out my hand to offer some shade. As the sparkles gradually died down, we had already transferred.

Pfft. I didn’t get to see anything. It just ended in a blinding light.

“We have been expecting you.”

I wonder if the person who came to greet us was one of Papa’s subordinates working in this territory.

There were six people there, but I recognized none of their faces.

“This time I have brought my daughter, Nefertima with me. Please treat her well.”

“Second daughter, Nefertima. I look forward to working with you.”

I slightly lifted up my skirt and bent my knee a little. The angle at which I bent my elbows and knees, the speed of the action. I have mastered this courtesy by practicing countless times in front of the mirror. Alright, I did it perfectly!

“My my, what a polite young lady. My name is Wanus Jilva, the representative, or Daishu, of this territory. Welcome to Ascenta.”

The person who greeted us looked to be a good-natured old man.

Leaving that aside however, Ascenta is just the name of the area!

So that means, Ascenta is in the city of Jilva, which is in Osuphe Territory.

If it has transfer equipment, then that means it must be a pretty big city.

I want to go and look outside as soon as possible!

“Sir Delrant, a carriage has already been prepared, will you make use of it immediately?”

“Indeed. I want to arrive while we still have some daylight.”

“Understood. If you would follow me this way.”

We now have to go by carriage? While we still have daylight… is it still that far away??

Wanus led us through the building that we arrived in.

The interior was reasonably splendid, but it was built quite solid, just like old-man Gauche’s fortress mansion.

We made our way up to the entry hall where Papa put on a coat for me.

The lining was thick and made from animal fur, a coat used reliably for the middle of winters.

…But, it’s spring right now right? Hmm, it’s past my birthday, so it should be spring on the calendar. Yup, there should be no doubt.

So why are we wearing winter clothing? Just how cold is it outside!

The butler opened the door for us, and a burst of snow flew right at us.

Ahhhhh! It’s cold it’s cold it’s cold!! No no no no!!!

I clung to Papa due to the overwhelming cold.

Goosebumps formed across my entire body, and my teeth rattled because I was shaking.

The wind was unusually cold. No, it has gone well past cold and now it just hurts!

Papa must have felt sorry for my sensitivity to the cold, because he picked me up and whispered something to me.

The sound of my teeth clattering was so loud that I wasn’t able to hear what he said.

Speaking of which, why are Papa and the others not cold!!

…Huh? It’s not cold anymore?? Actually, it’s quite warm.

It’s like the blissful feeling of burying myself in a kotatsu. I let out a sigh of relief.

“How do you feel? Still cold?”

I nod at Papa’s question.

By any chance, could this also be the work of magic? I wonder if it’s the same as the one Sol used that one time.

Which means… if I ask Sol, she can make me immune to the cold! What a good idea I’ve thought up.

Having been released from the hellish cold, I gleefully jumped into the carriage.

I took the opportunity to let Nox out of her cage and had the same warm magic cast on her.

Rainhawks don’t live in the north after all. She still has her baby feathers, but just in case.

Excluding Wanus, there were five people with us, Papa, his two subordinates, and me. In total there were nine of us, and we rode in two separate carriages.

The carriages looked sturdy, like they were made for tundra countries.

Five hours passed since we hopped onto the carriages!

I stared at the scenery, during the breaks I played in the snow, then when I got tired I took a nap, then I would play some more in the snow. These series of events would repeat itself over and over until, surprisingly, in a blink of an eye we had arrived!

We arrived at a, what could be appropriately called deserted and no longer used, village. … There’s nothing but the forest around us! Where are we?

Papa was very excited to see the person who looked like the village chief.

I don’t really get it, but for now I’ll let Nox fly around for a bit. I can let Nox get a grasp of the local geography so that she can relieve herself of some stress.

“Nox, go off and take a walk.”

‘Walk’ is a command which tells her to patrol around a fixed area from her starting position. Just in case, I use a secret code word. Lestine told me that it might be a good idea to use code words and so I started using them.

I watched as Nox disappeared into the forest before I decided to voluntarily take a stroll around the village.

There were around 20 households. Every house seemed to have a thatched roof made out of hay or dry grass.

Also, strangely enough, there was no snow built up anywhere. I wonder if it’s due to the terrain, or is there another cause? I wonder if Papa knows.

“Nema!”

But I haven’t seen everything yet!

Hmm, well that’s okay. After all, we are going to be staying the night here, I can always explore more tomorrow.

It seems that we are going to be taken care of in the village chief’s house. But it won’t fit everyone, so some people will have to stay in other houses.

We had wild boar stew for dinner! The meat was of course giant boar! It tasted a little strange, but it went very well with the broth and was super yummy.

When Nox came back I asked her if she needed any food and she said her belly was full from having done some cheeky hunting.

Nox is super cute when she eats so I always look forward to feeding her. How unfortunate.

I’ll be sleeping in the same bed as Papa for the night.

It’s actually the village chief and his wife’s bed, but we accepted their offer when they told us to use it!

Papa is still writing, so I’ll head off to sleep first.

I can hear some sort of weird voice.

It caught my attention, so I squirmed about and got up to see what it was.

Hmm? It’s already morning. I must have slept really well.

“Uueew.”

Yes, that’s it. The strange voice! Wait, is that moaning?

I turned my body around to try and get a grasp of the situation.

…Ah………

I was crushing Papa!

The moaning sound was Papa. And in the place where I first started sleeping was a bunny lying on its side.

Huh? Was I tossing and turning in my sleep??

Hmm, but, it’s already time to wake up so it shouldn’t matter.

“Father, wake up.”

I tried shaking him but he wouldn’t wake up. Even now he’s still making noises, just what kind of dream is he having?

I guess it can’t be helped.

I pinched his nose, and blocked his mouth with the palm of my hand.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight…

Ah, he’s up!

“Guwah… haa… Nema?”

“Good morning!”

Whether it was because he didn’t realize what was happening, or because he was still half asleep, Papa woke up in a daze.

I wonder if he hasn’t realized that he woke up because I disrupted his breathing.

“Ah… good morn.”

“Breakfast. I’m hungry!”

Let’s get dressed and have something to eat already.

I hurried Papa along, and we headed towards the living room.

This village house has a Japanese-style kind of feel to it. You could say that it has the feel of a grandmother living out in the country, but at any rate it has quite the nostalgic feeling to it. It really feels like a Japanese living room.

Now then, today’s breakfast is vegetable gruel made from the remains of last night’s stew. It didn’t come with rice, rather it was mixed with all sorts of things, but it was super yummy!!

This meat on the bone is especially good! By no means did they spare any effort with this dish. Because of the bone you have to take off the lye very carefully.

“…Is it okay if I have seconds?”

I finished my serving, and so I tried inquiring to the village chief’s wife.

“We’re glad that this country food is to your liking.”

She served me up a second helping with a smile, perhaps she was happy that I wanted more.

“I love your cooking because it’s so delicious!”

“Dear! That makes me so happy! In that case, I’ll prepare a super special lunch box to take with you!”

“Yay!”

Hmm? Lunch box??

I tilt my head while in the midst of celebrating.

“We will need it because we are going into the woods today. I would like to say that you will be in charge of the house while we are gone Nema, but…”

It’s obvious that I’m going! If I’m left behind then I’ll just follow you later.

Even if I’m watched by someone, I have Sol’s magic, so I’ll manage one way or another… probably.

“It will be dangerous, so make sure that you do exactly as I say.”

Papa explained that recently there have been multiple reports of monster attacks in this region.

Knights have been sent to eliminate them, but there just doesn’t seem to be any end to them. And so a fortress will be built, and the knights will be stationed there.

Our territory inspection is about looking at proposed sites for the fortress and to check on the current state of the forest.

Hmm, isn’t that strange?

I don’t think Papa of all people would take me along to such a dangerous place.

Just what is he up to…?

“Father, for what reason are you bringing me along?”

If it’s for some silly reason then I’m going to tell mother on you!

“…I’m sorry, but I want you to act as a mediator between us and the fire dragon.”

Huh? What do you mean act as a mediator for Sol?

I wonder if he wants Sol to take care of the monster problem. He should probably give up on that idea. Well, I suppose it could work if he didn’t mind losing the forest too.

“The fire dragon should be quite knowledgeable when it comes to the monsters. We hope that she will give us some kind of hint as to their cause.”

Well yeah. Sol is a living encyclopedia… wait no, she’s a living historical dictionary.

I wonder if she has any ideas about the monsters.

“I will try and ask to see if she knows anything.”

I close my eyes, and, as always, Sol’s figure appears in my mind.

― Sol! Wonderful Sol! Sol the Majestic!”

- …You do not need to call my name so many times.

Oh no, I have to because Sol is just that important. That’s not the spirit Sol!

― You know, right now I’m with father on his territory inspection, and he said that the number of attacks from monsters has been quite frequent recently. Do you know anything about it?

― Monsters you say… Where is this place?

Ah… Now that you mention it, I don’t actually know where we are.

“Father, where are we currently?”

Papa, can you please stop giving me that ‘How can you not know?’ look? I don’t know the things that I don’t know, I just missed my opportunity to ask yesterday is all! I was too busy eating!!

“A village called Ikafu in Jilvdai. Perhaps it would help if I mentioned the Pinfrost Forest.”

I let Sol know what Papa told me.

In doing so, Sol gave a surprised look.

There seems to be almost no monsters at all in the Pinfrost Forest. Even if there were, it would just be an individual or two who came down from the mountains after perhaps losing to a slime, or a turf war, or some such.

“What kind of monsters are we dealing with?”

What comes first above all else is information!

I was relieved because father is with me, but I now regret not gathering any information at all about our territory investigation.

“Goblins were the first ones reported. There have also been sightings of Kobolds and very rarely frozen spiders.”

Fuh fuh. Goblins and kobolds are the staple of any fantasy. Are frozen spiders just spiders native to tundra countries?

Well at any rate, I’ll let Sol know of this information too.

Sol says that Goblins and Kobolds live a little further south.

From everything that I have heard so far I can make four theories.

The first, the monsters have tremendously multiplied. The cause of this increase is due to the abundance of food and the lack of a natural predator.

However this theory was revoked by Sol.

The second, the monsters have run away from their natural predators. The goblins have moved north from their habitat due to the increasing number of natural predators.

However this theory was revoked by father because the number of casualties by monsters in other areas has not increased.

The third, this is all caused by unnatural means. Although it is unlikely, they might be gathering here due to humans.

The fourth, it is God’s fault. This, I believe, is the most feasible.

After I explained my fourth theory I was asked why God would do such a thing. Well, that’s because, you know. Also, God already has a criminal record for doing such things.

Papa’s subordinates joined in and together we spent an hour talking about how the cause wasn’t this or that.

In the end, we shut down each possibility one at time through the process of elimination.

If it was by unnatural means then there would be some evidence left somewhere.

The village chief’s wife has finished making my lunch box, so let’s hurry up and set out for the forest already!!

But before that. We have to make sure we are prepared.

I put on the magical stone pendent that I received from the King and Queen, and I stored the knife that old-man Gauche gave me in the belly of my rabbit.

Meanwhile, Papa and his subordinates were all arming themselves up.

I noticed by the equipment that they put on that the five people who met with us in Ascenta are all knights. It seems they belong to the First Battalion’s Northern Division of the Royal Cavalry.

Papa only has his two subordinates under his direct command. …I wonder if it’s because he isn’t very popular.

An elderly hunter from the village escorted us through the forest.

We were walking on what could just be made out to be an animal trail. If I strayed slightly to either side then I would definitely get lost.

Nox was circling overhead and making sure there was nothing out of the ordinary ahead of us. However, the forest was quite dense with trees and so I don’t think that she would be able to see anything from the sky. But maybe birds can just tell, I’ve heard that hawks have very good eyesight, so maybe she can see after all.

We continued further into the forest when we heard the sound of leaves rustling. That sound however wasn’t made by any of us.

The knight next to me drew his blade, and made a swing at the bush, well it was more of a small tree.

Hey hey, what if a person had made that noise! I thought as I peered from a gap to see what had happened.

And there, stood one frightened ball of fluff.

An animal perhaps, but its fur is too long for me to tell what kind.

“It was just a rabbit.”

I was taken aback by what the knight told Papa!

That’s a rabbit!! When I think of rabbits I think of Netherland Dwarf rabbits or perhaps a Japanese White Rabbit, ones with short fur with pointy ears and noses that twitch constantly!

Ahh, what breed has that fur? It wasn’t chinchillas… I can’t remember.

Whatever he is he isn’t moving, is he okay?

After checking to see if there was any danger nearby, I approached the rabbit.

“Are you okay?”

I called to him and tried to touch him but he ran away in a flash.

…He ran away! He ran away from me!!

For a moment I was stunned by this shocking development, but I regained my senses once I felt the presence of someone behind me.

That’s right, this all happened because they were all here!

They usually don’t mind at all because Dan or Lestine are always next to me, but wild animals are very sensitive and so he must have been frightened because of the knights!!

“Let’s leave the area before the monsters smell the blood.”

Smell the blood?

There was a small blood stain where the rabbit had been.

Did the rabbit get cut by the sword!?

I impulsively broke out into a run.

Reason tells me that I shouldn’t. But I can’t just leave an injured animal alone!

 “Mademoiselle!”

“Nema!?”

I’m sorry! Do your best to follow me. And if possible, please try to not be angry, it might make the rabbit even more frightened.

I sprint in the direction that the rabbit ran off to. I want to catch him before I’m brought back to the others.

From behind me I hear, ‘Mademoiselle!’ and the sound of people chasing me.

…It’s kind of… scary. Maybe it’s the psychological effect from being chased, but that sound is very frightening!

Well, at least it looks like I won’t get lost.

Ohh, there you are!!

The rabbit hadn’t run that far away, perhaps because he was injured.

“This way. I’ll patch you right up.”

Blood was soaked into its long fur, perhaps because it ran away even though it was injured.

With unsteady steps, the rabbit drew closer to me while looking like it was protecting its wound.

That’s a relief. For a moment I feared that it may have lost its ability to function.

I gently picked up the rabbit, and turned to go back the way I came when…

I heard a rustling noise, I turned thinking that it was the knights catching up to me.

“Gee gee?”

Ahh.

I am truly loved by God!

Wait, that’s not right!!

What appeared was a green monster which was slightly taller than me. It was a goblin.

The goblin wore only some cloth wrapped around its back, a look from a southern country. Just looking at him is making me cold!! This is a northern country right? Even if you are a monster you must still be cold!

But what a fool I am for observing the goblin at a time like this. I would have to agree with anyone that would call me a fool right now. Because that’s what I am, a big fool!

Do goblins hunt in packs and not by themselves? Because it looks like several more goblins have appeared from behind me.

Suddenly something was thrown over me from behind, and I was taken away somewhere all the while being unable to move.

Darn! I wanted to tend to the rabbit first.

Through a series of events forcefully setup by God, I, Nefertima, have been kidnapped by goblins.

Papa, I knew it, it really was God’s fault all along!

So with that said, I’m going to be taken to the goblin’s nest, please come and save me!

As a last resort I’ll ask Sol to help me out.
