In My Previous Life I Was a Saint, but Now I Want to Cut Corners Chapter 9

“Uhm! I'm sorry I'm late! Uh… where do I sit?”

Everyone was stunned by her blunt attitude. She was quickly moved by the teacher with indigo hair and classes, who happened to be near her.

“Miss, what do you think you're doing? The prince is in the middle of his speech.”

The second the word 'prince' was mentioned, Angel took her first look at Cecil, who was on the stage. Her mouth dropped as she glanced at his beauty. Her attitude kinda reminded me of Aria's comment about the daughter of some mayor of a town within the Marquis Sheridans ruling. In other words, she was a commoner but what was strange was her unique rudeness…

“I'm sorry, I was just so nervous last night I couldn't sleep! I must have overslept!”

Her tone was that of a noble lady pretending to be sorry in a holier than thou attitude. //PRNOTE: In an attitude befitting of somebody who thinks he is better than you

“Enough, come on, get a seat so the prince can finish.”

The teacher reprimanded her some more with a stern tone as she continued to make excuses. She scurried around, looking for a seat. She noticed an open seat and ran to it. However, this seat wasn't for commoners. It was for a high-ranking official that happened to be right behind me. This caught me off guard as I know for a fact she did not belong there. Shouldn't she have asked the teacher first if she could sit here? I know she may be a commoner, but I think she may just be someone who lacks common sense. Proof of this was displayed on the commoner's faces as they frowned and condemned Angel for her behavior. How in the world did a girl like her become a saint? I asked myself.

In my past, I was taught with extreme strictness that a saint needed to be both beautiful in body but also in soul. I wonder if the school will teach her with the same methods as my past. I wonder if that's even possible with her current behavior.

“P-please continue, your Highness.”

You could tell the teacher was annoyed and figured it would be best to let it go so that the prince could continue his speech. He bowed and then moved back to his previous spot in the back.

Prince Cecil looked around the auditorium once again and continued his speech as if nothing happened.

“… We must learn how to be civil and have an understanding outlook on life. It will benefit everyone, not just the nobility but also the commoners, to spend our time here with an open heart and compassion for your fellow students. Hopefully, you all will keep this in mind during our stay here. That is all…”

Prince Cecil finished his speech with an apparent sarcastic remark towards Angel's direction. He returned to his seat without giving the girl a second glance. You could tell from his actions he was annoyed.

“Wow, look at you, Shine, giving me such a menacing glare.”

I could feel this tense and dark atmosphere coming from behind me as Aria talks. It made me feel uneasy and nervous. I tried to find Shine's eyes. He was a glowing ball of light, so I had no idea where to actually look. Although rather than glaring at Aria, he turned his attention to me. I told Aria to talk to Shine, hoping he would be discouraging Angel's behavior earlier.

“I can't do that. Shine isn't actually interested in Angel, her power level is far too low. If Shine could hear my warning, it's unlikely she would hear his words. Like I said before, all of this comes down to magical power, and the Shine's contractor is far too weak for him to do really anything.”

“If he wasn't interested, why did he make a contract with Angel?”

“I'm not sure? Maybe it just happened? Maybe to get to you? Who really knows… It's not like Shine can talk to us to say why.”

I regretted asking Aria because now my anxiety is picking up. If Shine is really after me, I'm sure Angel will get involved… It all sounds like annoyance is waiting for me… I really rather not deal with any of this. I struck a useless conversation with Aria to calm my nerves, and soon the ceremony was over.

Angel ignored the fact that only high rankings were allowed to leave first, but the teacher from earlier forced her to wait. I'm positive that it was written in the school's guide book given to us before the year started. But I wondered to myself if she even bothered to read it.

I decided I wouldn't mingle around too much and went straight back to my room where Anna and Klaus were waiting for me. I untied my hair and fluffed it out in frustration.

“Miss? Did something happen at the ceremony?”

“I heard there was a girl who was late to the ceremony.”
//TNote: Apparently, Klaus and Anna left after dropping Renaria off. This wasn't mentioned.

I looked into the mirror that had mine and Anna's reflection in it and nodded to confirm what she had heard.

“Yeah, It was the daughter of the Mayor of Leliu.”

Leliu is a town on the outskirts of Marquis Sheridans Territory. It confuses me why she came all the way to the capital of our territory for the ceremony.

“Well, it is said that if the priest is in a high ranking position, your chances of a powerful guardian increase. She could have just wanted that extra luck?”

“I see..”

“I'm sure it's nothing important. You have an Aerial, so by no means does that make you insufficient compared to her! You have nothing to worry about, my lady.”

Honestly, I'm not sure what to make of that…

“No, it's okay. I have my sweet little Aria. She is amazing. Even if no one can see her but my family, I couldn't care less. The only thing that matters is my family, so I'm not worried in the slightest! Especially over something like that, Anna.”

“More Importantly than those types of feelings, Angel displayed an unbelievable behavior during the ceremony. She is the daughter of a mayor in our territory, so I need to be extra careful around her.”

Anna gives Klaus a quick look of worry, and he replies with a nod. No words were needed to understand what that meant.

“I knew it…”

I let out a large sigh to display my frustrations and worries. I want to avoid getting involved with Angel, but I'm sure there will be no avoiding it now…
