Chapter 98.2 – Fusion

Shi Yuan turned his head and saw a mole person standing at the entrance of the tunnel. Her skeleton was small, she looked very thin, and her facial features were hideous, but she had a small yellow flower on her head.

The yellow flower was bright, a splash of color in the depressing lair.

She took another half step forward and asked, “Not even if it's voluntary?”

Di Wen shouted: “What nonsense?! Dorothy, go back!”

“No, Mom, I heard everything.” Dorothy jumped briskly to Gerald's side, leaned over, and looked at the inhibitor, “I want to give it a try.”

Di Wen's voice was sharp, she tried her best to restrain herself, still screaming: “Dr. Chi said it could be fatal! No one has ever injected inhibitors, and no one knows the consequences!”

“What else can we do?” Dorothy looked up at her, “Let the others go? Let fellow mole people who probably don't even know what an 'inhibitor' is, be the test subjects? Mom, they need you to find Elton, Mr. Gerald wants to continue teaching, and Morgan wants to be a doctor in the future…”

Di Wen: “That doesn't mean we can let you take risks! You—”

“I have dreams, too,” Dorothy interrupted her, “My dream is to look at the sun.”

Di Wen suddenly lost her voice.

Her hands were trembling, and she said embarrassedly: “No, no, no, it's too dangerous – think about it again, think about it again!”

Chi Yongge also said, “Miss Dorothy, I also think you have to think about it. If you don't change your mind later, we will discuss it again.”

Dorothy curled her lips, looking unhappy: “I won't change, I will come to you later. We can't miss this opportunity!”

She looked deeply at the inhibitor again, turned around, and left into the tunnel.

Di Wen was so emotional that her hands kept shaking.

The water boiled, Shi Yuan picked up the kettle and made her a cup of root tea. He handed it over, and Di Wen turned her eyes to look at him – she was still wary of Shi Yuan.

Shi Yuan asked, “Do you want to drink it?” He added, “I'll drink it if you don't.”

He really wanted to taste what it tasted like, but Lu Tinghan told him that he might have a stomach ache.

Di Wen: “…” She slowly stretched out her hand and took the cup with both hands.

After a few sips of hot tea, she was much calmer and whispered, “She never listens… you guys, you guys leave me alone for a while. I need to think about it.”

Her voice was tired.

Maybe because of Dorothy or because of memories of the past.

Everyone understood her emotions and left one after another.

Before leaving, Chi Yongge grabbed Gerald and asked, “Do you have that 'fusion agent'?”

“Yes.” Gerald was taken aback, “What do you need the fusion agent for? We almost treat it as garbage.”

Chi Yongge replied: “The Alliance has never studied the aspect of 'fusion' in the past. There is my workbench on the aircraft. I want to study the composition of the fusion agent and report it to the main city.” His eyes flashed with excitement, “With my intuition, this must be of great use!”

Hearing this, Gerald couldn't help but get excited, and responded: “Okay, then you come with me!” Chi Yongge left with him, and Adjutant Bing couldn't stand the stuffiness of the underground and returned to the aircraft.

With nothing to do for the time being, Lu Tinghan asked Shi Yuan, “Where do you want to go?”

Shi Yuan thought for a while: “I still want to take a look at the grass.”

He likes those golden long grass.

So, led by Morgan, they turned around and went out of the “lair” in seven or eight turns.

They stood side by side on the top of the hills, looking at the west mountain at sunset, the skylight seemed to ignite the long grass, and the gold and orange-red were surging together.

Before they knew it, a day had passed.

From arriving in the small city, to exploring the secret town under the church, to the princess's warehouse, to the mole people's lair, to hearing about the past of the Empire in the stuffy tunnels… Obviously, only two days had passed, but it was like going through an entire century.

They had been on their way forever for the past three months, and now, they were actually staying in one place, and it was likely to take a few nights.

This rare leisure was precious.

A huge sunset was falling. They sat down on the hill, and Lu Tinghan hugged Shi Yuan in his arms.

Shi Yuan got a cup of root tea as he wished and drank it in small sips. The taste was unexpectedly not bad, it was slightly bitter when drinking and was sweet after, which was quite special.

He leaned on Lu Tinghan and finished drinking the tea, put the cup aside, and asked softly, “Lu Tinghan, we will soon be leaving again, right?”

Lu Tinghan responded, and then said, “The Alliance is still waiting for us.”

“Do you think that the inhibitors can help the mole people?”

Lu Tinghan: “I hope so.”

“Mm.” Shi Yuan said again, “You told me the origin of the inhibitor, I don't remember much, can you say it again?”

Lu Tinghan told him many things.

From the historical and strategic policy of the Alliance to how to play cards and how to play the violin, he wanted to tell Shi Yuan everything.

There were too many unfamiliar things for Shi Yuan, and he easily forgot after hearing it. And the next time he asked Lu Tinghan, Lu Tinghan would take the trouble to talk about it again.

The desire to share was always the best proof of affection.

And getting the adoring gaze of a little monster was also a joy.

This time was no exception.

Inhibitors were a topic of interest to Lu Tinghan. He put his arms around Shi Yuan and talked endlessly, from the prototype of inhibitors to later experiments, data collection on monsters, and then to its practical value in war.…

He talked for almost half an hour, turned his head, and said, “Shi Yuan, what else do you not understand? Ask me quickly…”

He paused.

Shi Yuan slept sweetly in his arms. His face was delicate and warm in the dim light, and his eyelashes cast fan-shaped shadows.

He was holding his tail.

It was unknown when he fell asleep and how much he heard.

Lu Tinghan touched Shi Yuan's black hair. He was not disappointed, but smiled instead. He thought, 'when you wake up, I'll tell you about it.'

The strong wind bent the golden grass and blew away the last touch of light.

A hunched figure slowly walked up the hills and came to them – Di Wen looked at the two of them hugging each other in silence.

She seemed to think of something, her expression softened.

Lu Tinghan noticed her existence, turned his head and nodded at her.

Di Wen walked slowly to them.

She said hoarsely: “I will go with you and find other cities. Then, you can go back to the main city.”

Lu Tinghan nodded and said, “That couldn't be better. Thank you very much for your help.”

Di Wen didn't answer.

Her gaze traveled through the long grass and over the hills until she reached the skyline where dark red and darkness intertwined. She saw all the ruins, the wilderness, the thin clouds, and the wandering and dark past of the Empire.

She was too old and thin, with gray hair, and she didn't seem to be able to bear the name “Kingslayer” at all, nor was she worthy of the heroic figure who “led the mole people to survive by herself.” She was like a piece of paper, which could be blown away by the wind at any time, just being alive was like a miracle.

It was unknown how long it took before the new wind gradually rose, and the world was darkened.

She said: “…I want to go home.”
