Underdog Versus Boss Chapter 1

Feng Kai Ze opened Da Tian Ting’s diary for the thousandth time. He always read her diary when he had a bad day. Her sincerity always cheered him up.

5th March XXXX

Today I fought with little monkey. Both of us have bruises. It’s my fault for insulting little monkey has no dad. Tomorrow I’m going to put an apple in little monkey’s bag to say sorry.

7th April XXXX

Today is the last day of my exams. Mummy made a lunch box for me to eat at school.

I know little monkey only has rice and pickled radish to eat for lunch. I purposely lost a bet with him so he’ll agree to eat my lunch box with me.

Feng Kai Ze closed Da Tian Ting’s diary. Sixteen years ago, he thought Da Tian Ting was his childhood rival. So on the day he left his mother’s hometown, he stole Da Tian Ting’s most prized possession, her diary. He memorised every page of her diary, and every day he wondered what her life was like in his mother’s hometown.

Across an ocean from Feng Kai Ze’s home, Da Tian Ting rode a bike slowly through the busy roads. It was Shang Duan Hua’s birthday. Da Tian Ting took half a day of work leave, because she wanted to go home early and cook a surprise birthday dinner for Shang Duan Hua.

Da Tian Ting felt sad every time she returned to the Shang family home. Ten years ago, her father died and entrusted the Shang family to be her guardian. Her father chose Shang Duan Hua to be her fiance.

In the last ten years Da Tian Ting honored her father’s wish. She worked, took care of the Shang family home, and supported Shang Duan Hua.

Da Tian Ting and Shang Duan Hua’s wedding day was in a few days.

Da Tian Ting parked the bike in front of an apartment building. She took off her helmet, and didn’t care about her helmet hair.

By the time Da Tian Ting ran upstairs to the Shang family home, it was three o’clock in the afternoon. Since everyone was working, she used her key to open the apartment instead of ringing the doorbell.

Da Tian Ting opened the door. There were clothes scattered along the hallway. She thought a thief broke into the apartment. On closer inspection, nothing was missing from the living room so she ruled out the thief scenario.

Da Tian Ting followed the trail of a man and a woman’s clothing and underwear from the living room to a bedroom. She heard moans from the bedroom. The bedroom door was wide opened. She could see clearly into the bedroom. Her fiance and her cousin were naked together on the bed. It was a ten year nightmare in the making. Her heart raced, two people closest to her had betrayed her trust.

Shang Duan Hua felt someone standing at the door. He turned around, it was his fiance. He withdrew from Da Ming Sheng’s body, got out of bed and put clothes on.

Da Ming Sheng pulled the bedsheet over her naked body.

‘Who’s there?’ Da Ming Sheng asked. ‘Big sister, is it you? Why are you home early?’

‘If I didn’t come home early then I would have missed out on the most spectacular sight in my life,’ Da Tian Ting said sarcastically.

Da Tian Ting didn’t want to cry in front of the people who betrayed her. She wasted half a day of work leave, and missed out on the monthly bonus for work attendance. What surprise birthday dinner? It wasn’t her birthday yet she received one of the biggest surprises in her life.
