Chapter 187- Greed

On the same day, in the Kingdom of Udon where the Guild Conference was taking place, there was another conference taking place in the throne room of Udon Castle,  although it is usually wrapped in a solemn atmosphere, today its filled with dangerous tension. The reason is because,

“Jacob-dono, what did you just say!?!?”

“The reason for my visit is not for the sake of an apology!”

“Looks like it....”

The suppressive atmosphere could be felt from where Jacob was kneeling in front of the throne, and the officials were scowling while staring daggers at him.

“Now then, for what reason have you come here?”

“Fue, fue. For what reason have we come to the Udon Kingdom? For what reason have you called a senile old man like me to come all the way here from the Set Republic? We are the ones that wanted to ask that instead, ~nou.”

“Stop feigning ignorance! Jacob-dono, we know about the incident that took place at the border of the 12 Demon Generals, even we can get ahold of that information! To begin with, why has there been no explanation from the Set Republic!?!? This matter, don’t attempt to do anything substantial without our statement!”

From the demanding words of the Court Officials, the other officials around them also started to join in and spew vulgar words as well.

“Oo……..the surroundings seem to have gotten noisy all of a sudden.” says Jacob, joking exaggeratingly. 

The court officials spewing words that were made fun of felt as if they were slapped in the face,  so they turned green from anger.

“But still, Jacob-dono, if a single person were to slay 3 of the 12 demon generals while crossing the border without permission, it can’t be helped that there would be widespread unrest and anticipation of a possible invasion,  right?”

There was a single person here who had a good reasoning ability who questioned Jacob. It was a man with an obese stature with a beard only on his chin. He is decorated with precious stones and metals, and he is even wearing high-class clothes that could only mean that he is an aristocrat. He was easily spotted as not just a normal civil official, but as an aristocrat, even someone like Jacob could make that distinction, so he knows how to behave with such a person.

“The Finance Minister……..Baryu Vorui Knox- dono, is it? The Set Republic seems to have Ike prejudice against the Kingdom of Udon? That is unthinkable. The reason that I was able to come to the Kingdom of Udon in the first place is due to the permission provided by the Republic, I feel like you should be more grateful for them to allow me to proceed when I was called. Even though they were allied nations, and inside the royal palace, the civil officials, as well as the aristocrats were taken aback by the fearless attitude of Jacob. Looking at them, Jacob’s face had a proud smile plastered on it.

“Thankful……..the Udon Kingdom is thankful to the Set Republic?”

“That’s right. Even though there are two people with infamous reputations, and wanted in the Rem continent, they have entered the Udon Kingdom. Is there any damage that was caused by them? Have there been any complaints from the people?”

Due to the words spoken by Jacob, all the civil officials and the aristocrats are at a loss. 

“Fue, fue. From your reactions, there doesn’t seem to  be any damage, right? What kind of damage would there be if that dead apostle rampaged even once, is what all of you better be aware of rather than me. Tell me, people of the Udon Kingdom, for the soldiers that gave their lives for the aristocrats, should the 12 demon generals not be slaughtered, but repelled? What kind of complaints and summons does the Udon Kingdom want to use this time?”

As opposed to Jacob who was talking with a casual tone and attitude, the aristocrats and officials of the Udon Kingdom gritted their teeth while staring at him.

“I see. If you say it like that, then what Jacob-dono said has a point. Is it wrong though of us to just repel them? According to information that i've obtained, those of the 12 demon generals that died was due to a powerful skill that they couldn't resist against at all. Among the 12 demon generals that you took care of, how is it that only Jacob-dono survived. Did the other two fall in battle?”

The Finance Minister looked at Jacob with a repulsive grin plastered on his face.

“As for this unusual matter, I don't think that I will take the words of the Finance Minister of the Udon Kingdom to heart. Besides, Fue, fue~,  it will be quite hard to believe that a single person could do all of alone. I would like to also wish that you would understand that at that time, Renalt and Ivan were injured, so they were unable to come.”

“Wha~!”

“To do it alone, those apostle……. As expected, the Republic boasts of a man who is capable of handling those on the level of the 12 Demon Generals!”

“Un, unbelievable, I-I can't believe it. For the ‘Twin Holy Saints’ to obtain such an accomplishment....”

Nevertheless, the surrounding civilians, and the nobles had no choice but to cheer them on with their laughs while holding their noses high.

Clemens Crowning, who hadn’t said a word since the beginning, finally nods with a gentle smile. 

The Finance Minister held his nose up high while he guided Jacob and his companions to a separate room.

“What a really rude man!”

While on a giant flying insect, Jacobs companions couldn’t help but complain. Although they were flying at an altitude of 100 or so meters above the ground, they were unfazed. Since the conference was over, they were on their way home from the Udon Kingdom to the Set Republic.

“He is the same man as the rumors said.”

“Ee, Eh! Even though Jacob-sama has said repeatedly that he didn't come here to apologize,  that Finance Minister keeps repeating that he had every time he opened his mouth! Due to Jacob’s retort, the man cowers while apologizing. “That’s right. The Set Republic’s fighting force is not endless. There is no time to rest when the twelve Demon Generals are surveying, and looking out for surrounding conflicts. They are even dealing with demi humans who are rampaging in the territory.”

“Currently, there are four members left of the Twelve Demon Generals, if they were to come here……..”

"It’s because you make light of the enemy! Even though I told him to wait for my arrival, Ivan died because of the wound he got from the fight with Dolm a long time ago! Jacob tried to restrain his anger as the staff he was clutching started trembling, while his eyes gazed sorrowfully into the distance.
