Supreme God Chapter 15 - Prelude and Decision (1)

Chapter 15: Prelude and Decision (1)

"We were besieged by Pontus' offsprings. We'd have died if Poseidon, our brother-in-law, hadn't passed by when we were attacked."

Pontus had five children; Nereus, the Old Man of the Sea, Thaumas, the embodiment of the dangers of the sea, Phorcys and his sister-consort Ceto, and the Strong Goddess Eurybia.

Pontus' children and his children's offsprings looked nothing like humans. They took on many forms like that of a half man and half creature like the Nereids, whose father is Nereus; like the Gorgon having snakes for hair; like the Sirens, a half-bird and half beautiful maidens who lured passing sailors; or an Echidna who was a half-woman and half-snake and so forth.

Pontus' children had many offsprings and they too loved to play in the Seven Seas. Often, the Oceanids and the primordial god's offsprings would meet. A conflict would soon occur and only death could solve the enmity.

"We want revenge…"

Listening to the bellowing noise below, Poseidon's eyes flickered and a faint smile appeared on his lips. He hit the ground with his trident and suddenly the hall was quiet.

"Those… things scourge the Seven Seas, leaving all living beings and mortals in the seas without peace and I, Poseidon, recognized by the King of Gods, am ready to launch a large army and sweep away those sea monsters and bring peace to the Seven Seas once and for all! Are you with me sons and daughters of Oceanus?! Will you fight with me against those sea monsters?!"

"Yes!"

"We will fight with you!"

"Let us go to war!"

"Fight!"

"Brothers, sisters, we must let them know the powers of us Oceanids!"

The voice of many gods and goddesses boomed and clamored the halls.

Poseidon burst out in laughter. "Well, brothers and sisters, in return, you will all become leaders of the seas and we will share the glory together!"

After his speech, Poseidon held Amphitrite's soft hands and walked to the throne above the hall. From beginning to end, his wife, Amphitrite, said not a word.

None knew that wedding was the prologue and beginning of a century-long war and also the prelude to the establishment of Olympus' theological history.

In the mess of crowds, Styx looked up and chuckled. "Zeus' brother is as charming as ever."

Adelos nodded in agreement.

Poseidon's lips and tongue had a way with words. It's of no wonder he's able to become the overlord of the seas and the only Sea God recognized in the hearts of all living beings.

In comparison to the twelve Titans, the three brothers that is Zeus, Poseidon, Hades though isolated and apart from each other, they ruled in hegemony as kings of the sky, sea, and underworld in their own respective rights.

Though there were too few gods high above Mount Olympus, Zeus used his charm and beautiful appearance to collude with many gods and goddesses for his own benefits. Finally, he produced powerful children who fought for him and made sure that none take his throne.

The gods and goddesses dare not defy him.

Poseidon, the God King of the Sea, ventured to the Seven Seas. He faced the primordial god, Pontus and the Titan Oceanus. He knew he'd not rule dominion of seas alone so upon meeting Amphitrite, at first sight, he decided immediately that he'd side with the Oceanids. He intended to use his marriage with Amphitrite to pull the Oceanids under his rule and suppress Pontus and his offsprings.

But what of Hades? He'd gone to the Underworld by his lonesome. How did he manage to gain hegemony? Was it like Zeus' and Poseidon? Did he use charm as his means?

What followed next was a lively banquet. The gods drank red wine and watched the beautiful sea goddesses dance. Everyone, in turn, toasted Poseidon and his marriage to Amphitrite their sister.

Oceanus and Tethys sat on a high platform. They laughed and watched the scene in enjoyment. The two couples were concerned for the well-being of the future of their children, but it seems all would be well soon. Zeus recognized Poseidon's marriage to Amphitrite.

Then… all should be well.

As for Styx, Adelos, and Artemis, they happily chatted with Amphitrite, now Queen of the Seven Seas.

"Sister, I hear that Nike and her four brothers and sisters lives well in Olympus. The King of Gods also places a great deal of trust upon them." Amphitrite looked at Artemis before turning to Styx.

Hearing Amphitrite, Styx sighed. "Those four children… they don't know how to be good and serve their own mother, but they act like Zeus' own children."

Styx and Pallas bore four sons and daughters—Nike, the Goddess of Victory; Kratos, God of Power; Bia, Goddess of Force; and Zelus, God of Zeal.

Zeus loved the four children of Styx dearly because they were loyal supporters. Several of them and Helios and Selene who'd recently come to Olympus have become his main fighting force.

Amphitrite consoled her sister. "It's not that bad. Zeus is the King of Gods. His strength grows too fast. He won't need to worry about brother-in-law's children ever revolting."

It was odd.

Pallas, the father of Styx's children was locked in Tartarus by Zeus yet his children were ever loyal and obedient to the King of Gods.

"Those two, are they children of Zeus?"

If Métis hadn't died, her children would have been the eldest.

Of all the children Oceanus and Tethys gave life to, Styx and Amphitrite had the best relationship with Métis, the Goddess of Wisdom. After Métis died by the hands of Zeus, the two sisters grew depressed. More so than their parents.

"Yes." Styx responded punctually.

She was in a low mood. She had listened to his father's plan and helped Zeus win the battle. Right now, she's not sure whether what she did was the right or wrong.

Amphitrite changed the topic seeing the mood turn sour.

"You're Artemis, aren't you? Your mother's whereabouts are currently unknown. Why don't you follow me and live here in the ocean?"

Amphitrite liked this young goddess very much, even more so than her many sisters and brothers.

"Thank you, Aunt Amphitrite. I'll think about it." Artemis replied with a complicated expression.
