Here’s another free sample translated by me. Do you remember that last time I said there was another section before the end of chapter one? I was wrong. There are more, so the chapter doesn’t end with this section.

Since my books haven’t arrived yet (they will literally arrive next year), I’m done for now. When I’ll have my copy, I think I’ll translate some stuff like the chapter titles so I’ll be able to clarify which parts have been translated, and then I’ll decide if it’s worth it to keep posting my translation and so on.

One last thing: I noticed that a lot of my new followers are mostly SasuSaku shipper. To those: good reading, you’’ll have fun! Call out also to the SaiIno and ChoKarui shippers (not ShikaTema tho, even if there’s a lot of Shikamaru).

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE : Sasuke was heading towards the Land of Lightning, but decieds to stop at the Bamboo Village to help Iou, the village headman, after learning that there’s a criminal organization (the Dark Thunder Group) who’s terrorising the villagers. Meanwhile Karyuu, the villain, becomes aware of Sasuke’s presence in Take no Mura and plans of destroying it.

The huge Aun* gate, which connects the village to the outside world, was now shut to elude the darkness of the night, and the huge rock cliff in which the succeeding generation of the Hokage’s faces were carved was quietly illuminated by the light of the moon that peeked from the rift between the clouds.

It’s the Village of the Hidden Leaf, in the Land of Fire, whose history was the most ancient among the shinobi villages.

Nowadays this village, which once sustained a catastrophic damage due the attack from Pain of the ‘Akatsuki’, prospered more than in the old days, and also the population, which had decreased because of the Fourth Ninja World War, was in the process of recovering.

All seemed all right, but trials are an essential part of any era.

“Mmmh… that’s quite serious.”

Here we are in the Hokage Office.

The Sixth Hokage, Kakashi, who had finished to confirm the letters delivered from the Village of the Hidden Mist and the Village of the Hidden Cloud, was taking a rest.

Skilled shinobi had disappeared. As for the Kirigakure shinobi, no less than hundred of shinobi at once had disappeared, ship included. According to Kumogakure, there was a person who had saw the ship of Kirigakure in the sea near the harbour of the Land of Lighting. If it was so, there was the possibility that they had temporarily reached the harbour of the Land of Lighting. He suspected that then the shinobi of Kumogakure had went onboard, too, and they were carried somewhere.

Nevertheless, the escape was unlikely when it comes to sea. Footprints and scent weren’t left, and in the most wide sea it would be difficult to locate them also with Kakashi’s summoning, his ninken**, whose strong point was tracking. Certainly both Kirigakure and Kumogakure didn’t know what to do.

If they had been back in the old days the matter would likely have been kept completely confidential, but the letter that requested intelligence had been sent to Konohagakure, Iwagakure and Sunagakure, which were the shinobi villages of the Five Great Countries, and from now on it was likely to spread out more and more.

Though it was a matter of another village, it wasn’t somebody else’s problem.

When the information arrived, Kakashi immediately transmitted it to the Konoha shinobi. Also to Sasuke, who was travelling around the world.

Kakashi suspected that this time a genjutsu was involved. Although Kumogakure and also Kirigakure weren’t doing specific conjectures, they probably thought so.

More explicitly, it was an unknown genjutsu. He couldn’t think of anything other than considering the fact that such skilled shinobi weren’t able to deal with it. Also Sasuke probably thought so after reading Kakashi’s letter.

Sasuke had left in a journey for observation and atonement, and saying that there was something that bothered him. He was different from the shinobi who were inside the village, but on the other hand he could exploit that side of freedom. And above all he had Sharingan and Rinnegan. Even the things not discovered by other shinobi might appear at his eyes.

“Sixth.”

In that moment, he could hear the sound of someone knocking at the door of the office. Kakashi, who judged by the voice that it was Shizune, the pupil of Tsunade, the previous Hokage, greeted her with a “Yees, I’m here”. She was being Kakashi’s support, too.

“Excuse me. Sixth, there are news from Sai and…”

Shizune’s face peeked from the crack of the opened door, but it appeared with a rather frowning expression. He had entrusted Sai with the communication with Sasuke. So, probably the news was that the message had reached Sasuke.

Shizune’s expression was concerned but he greeted her with “Uh-huh, go on”.

NOTES:

*Konoha’s main gate has two letters painted on its door leaves, あ ‘a’ and ん ‘n’, the first and last letter of the Japanese alphabet. As for its meaning, I think Cacatuasulphureacitrinocristata explained it   better then I could ever do. However, there’s also a Wikipedia article on it.If I had to make a comparison, it’s similar to the symbolism of Alpha-Omega (ΑΩ) in Western culture.

“Well…”

Shizune opened the door, and looked back.

“Excuse me.”

Sai entered expressing a crafty smiling face as usual*.

“Excuse me—…”

After him, Haruno Sakura made an apologetic expression. A question mark rose in Kakashi’s face** with a “Hn?”.

Behind Sakura, there was another person who entered.

“Yo! Kakashi-sensei!”

Joking and showing a bottomless cheerful smiling face, he was Uzumaki Naruto, who had saved the world in the previous great war.

However, somehow he knew about Sai, but why Naruto and Sakura were here?

“Well, Naruto, what are you doing here anyway?”

Naruto folded his arms behind his head, and laughed with a kishishi.

“How should I put it, I sorta followed Sai while he went in Kakashi-sensei’s room.”

There was no sign of being shy in him.

“And you, Sakura?”

“I was investigating a thing with Shizune-san…”

He figured that when Sai and Naruto went to ask Shizune for a meeting in the Hokage Office, they probably had realised that Sakura was there, but asked it anyway.

“First of all, let’s hear Sai’s report.”

“As for the Chōjū-giga bird that went flying, its direction was North-East. Given the number of days, now it should be in the vicinity of Yugakure or Shimogakure***.”

Hearing that, Sakura sighed relieved. Sasuke, somewhere, was still alive. She probably was relieved by only just having been able to feel it.

“Say, Kakashi-sensei, for the affair of the disappearance, are there developments?”

Naruto untied the hands that he had folded behind his head, and looked at the letter in Kakashi’s hands. The moment he said it he understood.

“Anyhow, it seems that there are no evidences…”

“Sixth, I’m worried about this matter.”

Sakura nodded at Shizune’s words and went on.

“The truth is that it’s assured that also in Konoha shinobi became untraceable in a similar way.”

“What!?”

Kakashi’s hips, who was sitting on a chair, became unsteady.

“It isn’t a large scale thing like in Kirigakure and Kumogakure, but about three months ago there have been some cases… Maybe there might be other cases that just didn’t become known.”

NOTES:

*I don’t know if Sai’s smile is always described as ‘食えない’, or if it’s just in this novel. To be safe, I translated it as ‘crafty’ rather than the usual ‘fake’.

**It’s kinda hard to translate it. The fact is, these novels are narrated just as if they were actually a manga (if you go reading Katsangod’s version of this chapter, there’s a wonderful picture showing Kakashi’s face). The same thing happened in the first section: when the author described the Mizukage’s gloomy atmosphere, he was actually describing .

***Hidden Frost Village. As we’ve seen in the last excerpt, Sasuke intended to arrive in that country that same day, but he stopped by Take no Mura, which is still in the Land of Hot Water.

Even now there were very dangerous missions, and there were shinobi who became untraceable. Since they had reached the point of being able to do cultural interaction with other regions with which previously they freely competed, also people’s coming-and-going had increased.

Therefore it wasn’t a special thing, but Kakashi was caught by something.

“However, why again are you investigating such thing, Sakura?”

As a medical-nin, Sakura passed every day busy with work, but it was a little unexpected that she could think about investigating this thing. Sakura let her gaze go free at Kakashi’s question.

“A customer of Ino’s shop disappeared while travelling. Ino said that he didn’t look like a person who would disappear suddenly, so I immediately remembered of having heard about the lately affair.”

Yamanaka Ino was a kunoichi, Sakura’s rival but also close friend. Her family was running a flower shop, and Ino also helped tending the store.

Ino’s state, who was probably worried about the regular costumer, probably remained inside Sakura.

“I researched very accurately so I thought to report but…”

In Sakura’s case, there was no doubt that she would report to Kakashi when she had investigated until she was confident about it.

“No, thank you. From my part I was already worried.”

Even though they say that the person that stands at the top has got all the information in his hands, the truth is different. Since it wasn’t necessary to report everything good and bad to the Hokage and they could sift the datas of their own accord, there was also very much information that didn’t arrive to Kakashi. Therefore, in this way the opinion from trusted friends was precious.

‘It’s good that I’ve heard of Sakura’s story with perfect timing’, while he thought this Kakashi turned his gaze to Naruto, who had brought Sakura along.

“Sixth! Intruders in the village!”

Suddenly, a shinobi of Barrier Team materialised in the Hokage Office. Tension ran across the office.

“They violated the barrier?”

In the Village of Konoha, a spherical barrier that included the underground and the air above the village was being maintained. After the attack of the ‘Akatsuki’, they were supposed to have formed an even stronger barrier.

“Well, in fact… they already trespassed inside the barrier, as far as the Aun gate…”

“What!?”

“Now, the shinobi of the Barrier Team are going towards the actual sce—”

‘—ne’, his words didn’t arrive to the end.

“…!?”

All of a sudden, with a don, they could hear something similar to the sound of an explosion coming from somewhere.

Kakashi and the others opened a window of the office and looked outside.

“Kakashi-sensei, a fire…”

In the direction to which Sakura pointed, influenced by the explosion a fire had outbroken in the vicinity of the Aun gate.

“Kakashi-sensei! For the time being, see you later ‘ttebayo!” Naruto said, and Sai agilely unfolded the scroll that was hanging from his back and drew out the brush. While he inked the outline of a picture,

a strange bird* spread its big wings.

“Ninpō: Chōjū Giga!”

It popped out of the scroll as if it came to life, and opened its wings outside the window. Sai jumped first on the bird that was moving its big wings up and down, then Naruto and Sakura followed him.

“I rely on you.”

Naruto and the others nodded at Kakashi’s words, and they took flight towards the direction in which the flames were rising.

“Sixth, I’m off to give instructions of firefighting!”

After nodding in approval with a “Uh-huh” at Shizune’s words, Kakashi gave the instructions to gather the information in each place, and looked at the letter from Kirigakure and Kumogakure that was left on the desk.

“What the heck is happening…”

Getting on the back of the Chōjū Giga bird that Sai had drawn, Naruto and the others hurried towards the direction of the gate near which the flames were rising. However, in the middle of the flight Sai suddenly lowered their height, and leaned out being within inches from a roof of a building.

“Sai, what’s wrong!?”

Naruto was surprised, but on the roof that faced the Aun gate ahead there was the running silhouette of a three-man cell.

“Ah, Shikamaru?”

At Naruto’s words, also Sakura looked down leaning forward.

“There are also Ino and Chōji! Sai, you had recognised those three, right?”

So, there were the Ino-Shika-Chō trio. It seemed that they had recognised Naruto and Sakura’s voices, too.

“Are you guys heading to the Aun gate, too*?” Shikamaru shouted, turning back. “Get in.” Sai called out, and they jumped on the strange bird with them three. The second Chōji got on, the bird wavered and almost crushed against the building, but Sai raised the height right away.

Naruto and the others looked at the trio again.

Shikamaru, Ino and Chōji were childhood friends, previously they formed a three-man cell under Sarutobi Asuma. However, now they were by themselves, holding each one his respective position, and they seldom mobilised all of them three together.

“Being called by Ino and Ino’s mother, we followed the flower shop’s regular costumer’s trail.”

At Shikamaru’s words, just now Naruto remembered the detail that Sakura had reported her investigation to Kakashi.

“There was a trail?”

“Perhaps we’ve finally found the inn in which he was staying. According to what the landlady of there said, it looks like he said that he’d come back in Konoha after his return from the hot spring cures.”

They could understand that that regular customer had no intention of concealing his own whereabouts.

“Does it mean there was something on the returning way home…?”

Ino firmly nodded in approval to Naruto’s words.

“This person… or rather, Tadaichi-san, had lost his wife early. He was the kind of person that bought flowers at my shop when he had time and dedicated them to his wife. Once he played an active role in the Anbu, but it was many years ago.

NOTES:

*More than ‘strange’, the word means ‘apparition transformed into a bird’, but it’s way too long to write every time that damn bird is mentioned.

**Short note on Shikamaru’s way of talking: every time he speaks, he slurs the words (as a symbol of being too lazy to pronounce things properly, probably). So he drags an ‘e’ sound instead of pronouncing ‘ai’ (for example, in his catchphrase ‘Mendokusee’ instead of ‘Mendokusai’, troublesome), turns the ‘ru’ sound in a ‘n’, and such.

This year he had retired as a shinobi, he had just waved goodbye saying that he was going to return to the place in which he had spent time with his wife, once…”

Ino had been with this customer since she was a child, and she possibly had become attacked to him too.

“Look, now, the affair that’s happening in Kiri and Kumo. I’m worried that he might be involved into this.”

Chōji said: “They’re investigating in Kumogakure, too, but since it rained in those days, they say that also the scent has been washed away and tracking is difficult.”

Since Chōji was having a cultural exchange* with Karui, a Kunoichi of Kumogakure, he probably obtained the news on his own.

“First of all, we oughta do something ‘bout this situation.” Shikamaru said to end the conversation, and stared at the Aun gate. Inside the gate that was shut for the night, the flames were rising in the Village of the Hidden Leaf.

“Shikamaru, we were in Kakashi-sensei’s room until some time ago, but it seems that intruders appeared in the village. The shinobi of the Barrier Team should have gone ahead.”

“If it’s so, it means that if we find the Barrier Team, we’ll find the enemy!”

At Shikamaru’s words, Naruto firmly leant forward, and watched.

“…There!”

In front of Naruto’s gaze, there was the Barrier Team fighting with shinobi that looked like the opponents. At the same time, Shikamaru found Barrier Team, but

“What kind of stuff is it, ain’t it only a defensive fight?” he frowned.

As Shikamaru said, the shinobi of the Barrier Team were retreating entirely as if they were avoiding the battle. It seemed that there were already casualties, and there were also figures of shinobi who had collapsed on the way.

Thereupon, Ino suddenly rose her voice in a “Eh?”.

“What’s wrong, Ino?” Sakura asked, but Ino didn’t answer, and tried to jump out alone without stopping.

“Ino, watch out!”

Sai restrained Ino grabbing her arm. Ino’s gaze remained fixed on the enemy that was attacking the Barrier Team.

“No way…”

Seeing that Ino’s face had become pale, Chōji asked “What’s wrong, Ino?”. Ino had trembling lips, and she talked trying to tighten them.

“…Tadaichi-san.”

“Eh?”

“He’s Tadaichi-san!”

At these words, shock ran through everyone. The person that Ino called Tadaichi-san was wearing a travelling outfit, and his face was empty as if his expressions had been scraped off.

“You sure, Ino?” Shikamaru asked as to confirm.

“There’s no way I’m wrong! But he’s not the kind of person who would bare his fangs against Konoha! Why…”

NOTES:

*“Cultural exchange”. Sure, Chouji. Sure.

“If it’s so…”

Shikamaru looked down on Tadaichi.

“There’s the possibility that he’s under a genjutsu… right?”

This time it was Sakura who gasped in surprise at these words.

“It might be as Shikamaru said…”

“What’s the matter, Sakura?”

An information about the disappearance of people that Sakura was investigating until short time ago was brought back to her mind.

“The people who went missing!”

“What!?”

“The Konoha shinobi! Maybe they’re all like this…”

Shikamru clicked his tongue with a chi, and looked at the shinobi of the Barrier Team.

“So that’s why they’re forced in a defensive fight…!”

Maybe there was a person among the Barrier Team who had recognised that they were Konoha shinobi.

However, if there was a genjutsu there was the possibility that they could restore their true character with a counter-genjutsu. The Barrier Team was fighting with this intention for sure. With a half-hearted killing intent, one their attack came in contact with Tadaichi.

“What’s that… what’s going on dattebayo!”

However, then, something swelled up with a fuuri and they felt a feeling of oppression as if it was running towards that direction.

Tadaichi’s body, who had been injured by the Barrier Team’s attack and had collapsed, was shivering little by little.

“…! Crap!”

Naruto was the fist to jump out.

——Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!!

He made a hand seal in midair, and a Kage Bunshin landed near each member of the Barrier Team.

“Naruto?”

“Jump!”

He put the shinobi of the Barriet Team in his shoulders by force, and he parted them from that place right away.

If they looked back, Tadaichi was slowly getting up. Despite being injured his face was still expressionless. The blood that was overflowing from the opening of his wounds was foaming with a bukubuku. And not only this. Tadaichi’s body was deforming with a burbling sound. It seemed that a different creature was creeping about inside his body.

“Don’t go further away…!”

Naruto took distance, dropped the shinobi of Barrier Team in what he hoped to be a safe place, and tried to run back to Tadaichi to rescue him.

However, his body had swollen up like a ball*, his skin that didn’t bear the expansion tore up, then——

“…!!”

It made a piercing doon sound, and it exploded as if it had burst open. Not bearing the impact of the explosion the house nearby was destroyed. Luckily, there were not casualties because Naruto’s Kage Bunshin had made sure to take and bring out also the people in the vicinity and inside the building,

*To let you know what I couldn’t put into the translation, the word used here is the same ‘maridama’ of the previous section. The ball-sphere.

but new flames had risen up.

“Are you ok, Naruto?!”

Sai’s Chōjū Giga landed, and Sakura and everyone rushed over near Naruto.

“Tadaichi-san…”

Ino looked at the spot in which pieces of meat had scattered, dumbfounded. Sakura placed her hand on Ino’s back to comfort her, and Ino nodded “I’m ok.” to regain control of herself. The two of them immediately ran back to the Barrier Team who had been injured.

However, the threat was not passed yet.

“Oi, ain’t this kind of situation suspicious?”

Looking at the Konoha shinobi that were probably manipulated, Shikamaru hardened his facial expression. Until not long ago they were baring their fangs at the Barrier Team, but suddenly they started running back towards that direction. Then, they clung to the wall that enclosed the Village of the Hidden Leaf stretching both their hands. Naruto was taken aback.

“No way! They, too!”

Naruto stared at their bodies. Thereupon, each one of them was injured somewhere. Probably the injuries were due to Tadaichi’s explosion.

Blood seeped out of the opening of these wounds, and just like short time ago it foamed. They felt a chill running down their backs.

“…Shikamaru! Everyone is going to explode ‘ttebayo!”

“What! If the explosion of now takes place with several bodies at the same time, the whole place in this area might be blown away!”

Nine people were left. Their body transformed as if they were pierced from inside, and they begun to expand. Shikamaru clicked his tongue with a chi, and called out to Chōji “Can you form wings with Baika*!?”.

“U-understood!”

Chōji opened the potato chips pack that he had secretly carried, and stored them inside his mouth in one gulp. While wildly chewing with a crunchcrunch, he put strength into his body.

“Uooooooo!”

Akimichi clan’s Hiden Jutsu**. Chōji’s body became huge in the blink of an eye, and butterfly wings grew from his back. That technique used an enormous amount of chakra. The flesh of Chōji’s once plump cheeks immediately halved.

“Naruto, how much time is left ‘til the explosion!?”

“About ten seconds!”

Nine, eight, seven——

“Gotcha! Everyone, go round behind Chōji! Hold onto something firm!”

Six, five, four——

“Chōji, now, keep flapping your wings with all your strength!”

“Yeah!”

Chōji, who had quickly understood Shikamaru’s intention, stood firmly and made his huge butterfly wings made of chakra flap. Chakra itself was placed into this wind, too.

Three, two, one——

NOTES:

*This bit gave me so many troubles. The verb used is 羽出す, terminology that  occurs in Naruto only once. I can only infer that it means ‘to form/grow/put out wings’, referring to . Baika stands for ‘Baika no Jutsu’, Chouji’s Multi-size Technique, even though Shikamaru probably means the .

**Secret Technique.

The sound of the explosion resounded with a doon. Together with that, the bodies clung to the wall immediately exploded. Shikamaru sternly stared in front of himself and shouted:

“They’re coming!”

Even if the shockwave was directed towards Konoha’s downtown, it clashed against the tornado-like wind created by Chōji’s large body. The wind incurred against the shockwave, and they conflicted.

“I’ll add reinforce ‘ttebayo!! Come, Kurama!”

——Ooh!

Before he was source of flowing hatred, now he was a partner. To support Chōji’s wind, Naruto called out to Kurama, the Nine Tails. Power surrounded Naruto’s body, and a Rasengan was created. Naruto released it pointing it towards the shockwave. The new wind forced back the shockwave, protecting the village.

“Alright, that’s good!”

The shockwave, that struggled against Chōji’s wind, was repelled from the direction of the village thanks to Naruto’s Rasengan’s backup. Every tree of the wood that was near the gate was agitated by the wind and the shockwave and was mowed down.

“…haa, haa… somehow we made it, right?”

Releasing the technique, Chōji breathed heavily. One section of the wall that enclosed Konoha had been destructed, but it seemed that the downtown suffered no damage. Also the flames that were rising inside the village were blown out by the sudden gust. Shikamaru clapped Chōji’s shoulder with a “Excellent!”.

Sakura dashed towards the wall that had been broken, but she dropped her shoulders looking mortified. Each and every remains had crumbled into pieces impossible to repair. Also Ino chewed her lips thoroughly.

“… for the time being, let’s report to the Sixth. Sai, send with a Chōjū Giga that we’re sorry.”

Shikamaru quickly issued instructions. Also Naruto tried to follow Shikamaru.

“Naruto!”

While Sai was drawing, suddenly they heard a voice calling out to Naruto. A man with a wide frame by sight because of his sunglasses*, and short black hair that stood on their ends was dashing towards that spot.

“…Err, who are you?”

He remembered the man but the name didn’t emerge.

“Yamashiro Aoba!”

“Ya-ma-shi-ro-a-o-ba…**?”

“We went together in the Turtle Island in Kumogakure!”

“Aah, yes, yes! Eh, what, we go to the Turtle Island again?”

“No! I’m a messenger from the Hokage!”

Aoba, who remembered the sense of danger, shouted the main issue without talking off point.

“From Kakashi-sensei? What is it dattebayo?”

“Just now, it seemed that there are intruders that had been sensed by the barrier, thirty of them!”

“…Eeh!?”

Everyone’s voices of surprise overlapped. Thirty. The attack of just now three folded.

NOTES:

*Another bit that was a real pain to translate. Literally, ‘ a frame width wide with sunglasses’ or ‘a frame width with wide sunglasses’. I can only imagine (and pay attention, it’s just wild guessing) that it means that Aoba’s face-frame was wide because of his sunglasses.

**The first time, when Aoba pronounces it, his name is written in Kanji and Katakana, as it should be (山城アオバ). The second time, when Naruto pronounces it, it’s written in Hiragana, meaning that Naruto is only reproducing the sound of the name, without really understanding its meaning. I rendered it as I could.

“Do you mean that there are new intruders? They were able to sense them now?”

Aoba nodded at Sakura’s words.

“Uh-huh, now they’re going towards this direction.”

In the middle of this discussion, on the opposite side of the wall that was destroyed, Naruto sensed a gaze from inside the wood.

“Over there…!”

From inside the dark wood, there was a man now. Moreover, one after another appeared as if they were connected. In this way, Sakura muttered “Maybe they’re those ones.” with a bewildered look.

They were wearing shinobi uniforms. The fact is that these shinobi uniforms were a mixture of Kirigakure’s and Kumogakure’s ones. Even in the forehead protectors, the symbol of Kirigakure and Kumogakure was carved in each one.

Turning his head quickly, “Looks like it’s becoming a troublesome thing…” Shikamaru complained.

“Naruto, you guys, you were at the Sixth’s — Kakashi-sensei’s place, right? Then you came running here hearing that someone invaded the village. Guessing from the discussion of just now, it means that the Barrier Team couldn’t notice the intruders of the beginning until they entered inside the village.”

“Ah, uh-huh.”

Shikamaru spoke as if they were really there.

“Though they’re manipulated by someone, Tadaichi-san and the others were Konoha shinobi. Therefore they were probably able to slip through the barrier without being noticed. However, there were possibly stop-gap posts to the very end.”

The manipulated army corps were slowly drawing near. They couldn’t sense any intention in their sluggish eyes. They were the main body of the army.

“Furthermore, as for the guys that they were before today, there’s even the possibility that they’re the Kiri and Kumo shinobi who went missing. Good grief, one after the other…”

Shikamaru scratched his head with a garigari.

L’enorme portale Aun*, che collega il villaggio al resto del mondo, era ora serrato per sfuggire al buio della notte, e l’enorme parete rocciosa in cui erano scolpiti i volti delle successive generazioni di Hokage era silenziosamente illuminata dalla luna che faceva capolino tra le fenditure delle nuvole.

È il Villaggio della Foglia, nel Paese del Fuoco, la cui storia era la più antica tra i villaggi ninja.

Oggigiorno questo villaggio, che in passato aveva sofferto un danno a causa dell’attacco di Pain, dell’ ‘Akatsuki’, prosperava più dei vecchi tempi, e anche la popolazione, che aveva subito un calo a causa della Quarta Guerra Mondiale Ninja, era in fase di recupero.

Tutto sembrava a posto, ma le difficoltà sono parte essenziale di ogni epoca.

“Mmmh… è una faccenda abbastanza seria.”

Qui siamo nell’Ufficio dell’Hokage.

Il Sesto Hokage, Kakashi, che aveva finito di vidimare le lettere consegnate dal Villaggio della Nebbia e dal Villaggio della Nuvola, stava facendo una pausa.

Degli abili ninja erano scomparsi. Quanto ai ninja di Kirigakure, erano scomparsi non meno di un centinaio di ninja in una volta, nave compresa. Secondo Kumogakure, c’era una persona che aveva visto la nave di Kirigakure nel mare vicino al porto del Paese del Fulmine. Se era così, c’era la possibilità che avessero temporaneamente raggiunto il porto del Paese del Fulmine. Sospettava che allora anche i ninja di Kumogakure fossero saliti a bordo, e fossero stati portati da qualche parte.

Ad ogni modo, la fuga è improbabile quando si tratta del mare. Non si lasciavano impronte né odori, e nel mare più vasto sarebbe stato difficile localizzarli anche con le evocazioni di Kakashi, i suoi Cani Ninja**, la cui specialità era quella di rintracciare. Di sicuro sia Kirigakure che Kumogakure non sapevano cosa fare.

In passato la faccenda sarebbe stata completamente confidenziale, ma la lettera, che chiedeva informazioni, era stata mandata a Konohagakure, Iwagakure e Sunagakure***, che erano i villaggi ninja dei Cinque Grandi Paesi, e da lì in poi era probabile che si diffondesse sempre più.

Anche se era una faccenda di un altro villaggio, non è che fosse problema degli altri, poteva benissimo essere il loro.

Quando era giunta l’informazione, Kakashi l’aveva immediatamente trasmessa ai ninja di Konoha. Anche a Sasuke, che stava viaggiando per il mondo.

Kakashi sospettava che questa volta fosse coinvolta un’illusione. Anche se Kumogakure a anche Kirigakure non stavano formulando congetture specifiche, probabilmente la pensavano così.

Più esplicitamente, era un’illusione sconosciuta. Non riusciva a pensare a nient’altro che tenere in considerazione il fatto che ninja di quel calibro non fossero stati in grado di affrontarlo. Anche Sasuke probabilmente la pensava così dopo aver letto la lettera di Kakashi.

Sasuke se n’era andato in un viaggio per investigazione ed espiazione, e dicendo che c’era qualcosa che lo disturbava. Lui era diverso dai ninja che stavano all’interno del villaggio, ma d’altra parte poteva sfruttare quel lato della sua libertà. E soprattutto lui aveva Sharingan e Rinnegan. Anche le cose che non erano state scoperte degli altri ninja avrebbero potuto riflettersi nei suoi occhi.

“Sesto.”

In quel momento, poté udire il suono di qualcuno che bussava alla porta dell’ufficio. Kakashi, che dalla voce giudicava fosse Shizune, la pupilla di Tsunade, l’Hokage precedente, l’accolse con un “Sìì, entra pure”. Lei era l’assistente anche di Kakashi.

“Mi scusi, Sesto, ci sono notizie da Sai e…”

Il viso di Shizune faceva capolino dalla fessura della porta aperta, ma si mostrava con un’espressione un po’ accigliata. Aveva affidato a Sai la comunicazione con Sasuke. Per cui probabilmente la notizia era che il messaggio aveva raggiunto Sasuke.

L’espressione di Shizune era preoccupata ma lui la accolse con un “Ha-ahn, vai avanti”.

Shizune aprì la porta, e si guardò alle spalle.

Sai entrò mostrando un viso artificiosamente sorridente come al solito.

Dopo di lui, Haruno Sakura fece un’espressione di scusa. Dei punti di domanda affiorarono sul volto di Kakashi* con un “Mh?”.

Dietro Sakura, un’altra persona entrò.

“Yo! Kakashi-sensei!”

Scherzando e mostrando un viso sorridente di gioia senza fondo, lui era Uzumaki Naruto, che aveva salvato il mondo nella precedente grande guerra.

Comunque, in qualche modo sapeva di Sai, ma perché Naruto e Sakura erano qui?

“Be’, Naruto, perché sei qui ad ogni modo?”

Naruto incrociò le braccia dietro la testa, e rise con un kishishi.

“Come posso dire, senza volerlo ho seguito Sai mentre andava nella stanza di Kakashi-sensei.”

Non si mostrava per niente timido.

“E tu, Sakura?”

“Stavo controllando una cosa con Shizune-san.”

Si immaginò che quando Sai e Naruto erano andati a chiedere a Shizune un faccia a faccia nell’Ufficio dell’Hokage si erano probabilmente accorti che Sakura era lì, ma l’avevano chiesto comunque.

“Prima di tutto, sentiamo il rapporto di Sai.”

“Quanto all’uccello dell’Ultra Illustrazione Animale che è volato via, la sua direzione era nord-est. Dato il numero di giorni, adesso dovrebbe trovarsi nelle vicinanze di Yugakure o Shimogakure**.”

Sentendo ciò, Sakura sospirò sollevata. Da qualche parte, Sasuke era ancora vivo. Probabilmente si sentiva sollevata soltanto a poterlo sentire.

“Di’, Kakashi-sensei, ci sono novità sull’affare delle sparizioni?”

Naruto disincrociò le braccia che aveva incrociato dietro la testa, e guardò la lettera tra le mani di Kakashi. Il momento in cui lo disse, capì.

“Ad ogni modo, sembra che non ci siano prove…”

“Sesto, sono preoccupata per questa faccenda.”

Sakura annuì alle parole di Shizune e continuò.

“A dir la verità è sicuro che anche a Konoha dei ninja sono diventati irrintracciabili in un modo simile.”

“Cosa!?”

I fianchi di Kakashi, che era seduto su una sedia, diventarono instabili.

“Non è una cosa su vasta scala come in Kirigakure e Kumogakure, ma circa tre mesi fa si sono verificati dei casi… Forse potrebbero essercene degli altri, solo che non sono diventati di dominio pubblico.”

Anche adesso c’erano missioni molto pericolose, e c’erano ninja che diventavano irrintracciabili. Dal momento che avevano raggiunto un punto in cui erano in grado di fare scambi culturali con altre aree con cui in precedenza competevano liberamente, anche l’andare e venire delle persone era aumentato.

Per cui non era una cosa particolare, ma Kakashi venne catturato da una cosa.

“Comunque, perché mai stai investigando una cosa del genere, Sakura?”

Come Ninja Medico, Sakura passava ogni giorno occupata per il lavoro, per cui era un po’ inaspettato che potesse pensare ad investigare questa faccenda. Alla domanda di Kakashi, Sakura lasciò vagare il suo sguardo.

“Un cliente del negozio di Ino è scomparso mentre viaggiava. Ino ha detto che non sembrava una persona capace di scomparire all’improvviso, per cui mi sono immediatamente ricordata di aver sentito del caso recente.”

Yamanaka Ino era una kunoichi, rivale ma anche amica intima di Sakura. La sua famiglia gestiva una fioreria, e Ino anche aiutava a tenere il negozio.

Lo stato di Ino, che probabilmente era preoccupata per il suo cliente regolare, era probabilmente rimasto dentro Sakura.

“Ho fatto delle ricerche molto accurate e avevo pensato di fare rapporto ma…”

Nel caso di Sakura, non c’era dubbio che avrebbe fatto rapporto a Kakashi quando avrebbe investigato finché non ne fosse stata completamente sicura.

“No, grazie. Da parte mia, ero già preoccupato.”

Anche se si dice che la persona che sta in cima ha tutte le informazioni a portata di mano, la verità è diversa. Dal momento che non era necessario fare rapporto all’Hokage su ogni cosa, brutta o bella che fosse, e che si poteva vagliare le informazioni a proprio discernimento, c’erano anche molte informazioni che non arrivavano a Kakashi. Per cui, in questo modo era preziosa l’opinione degli amici fidati.

‘È un bene che abbia sentito la storia di Sakura con un tempismo perfetto’, mentre pensava queste cose Kakashi si girò verso Naruto, che aveva portato Sakura con sé.

“Sesto! Intrusi nel villaggio!”

All’improvviso, un ninja del Team della Barriera si materializzò nell’Ufficio dell’Hokage. La tensione si propagò attraverso l’ufficio.

“Hanno violato la barriera?”

Nel villaggio di Konoha, veniva mantenuta una barriera che comprendeva il sottosuolo e l’aria soprastante del villaggio. Dopo l’attacco dall’ ‘Akatsuki’, si supponeva che avessero formato una barriera ancora più forte.

“Be’, in effetti… hanno già sconfinato all’interno della barriera, fino al portale Aun…”

“Cosa!?”

“In questo momento i ninja del Team della Barriera si stanno recando nel luogo preci—”

‘—so’, le sue parole non raggiunsero la sillaba finale.

“…!?”

Tutto ad un tratto, con un don, sentirono qualcosa simile al suono di un’esplosione provenire da qualche parte.

Kakashi e gli altri aprirono una finestra dell’ufficio e guardarono fuori.

“Kakashi-sensei, un incendio…”

Nella direzione in cui Sakura stava puntando, influenzato dall’esplosione un incendio era scoppiato in vicinanza del portale Aun.

“Kakashi-sensei! Per il momento, arrivederci ‘ttebayo!” disse Naruto, e Sai agilmente srotolò il rotolo che era appeso alla sua schiena ed estrasse il pennello. Mentre disegnava con l’inchiostro i contorni di una figura,

uno strano uccello* spiegò le sue grandi ali.

“Tecnica dell’Ultra Illustrazione Animale!”

Saltò fuori dal rotolo come se avesse preso vita, e aprì le ali fuori dalla finestra. Sai saltò per primo sul dorso dell’uccello che muoveva le sue grandi ali su e giù, poi Naruto e Sakura lo seguirono.

“Conto su di voi.”

Naruto e gli altri annuirono alle parole di Kakashi, e presero il volo verso la direzione in cui le fiamme si stavano alzando.

“Sesto, vado a dare istruzioni per spegnere l’incendio!”

Dopo aver fatto un cenno di approvazione con un “Ha-ahn” alle parole di Shizune, Kakashi diede istruzioni di radunare le informazioni da ogni parte, e guadò la lettera di Kirigakure e Kumogakure che era stata lasciata sul tavolo.

“Cosa diamine sta succedendo…”

Montando sul dorso dell’uccello dell’Ultra Illustrazione Animale che Sai aveva disegnato, Naruto e gli altri si precipitarono in direzione del portale vicino a cui le fiamme si stavano alzando. Tuttavia, nel bel mezzo del volo Sai diminuì la loro altezza all’improvviso, e si sporse fino a pochi centimetri dal tetto di un edificio.

“Sai, cosa combini!?”

Naruto era sorpreso, ma sul tetto che guardava il portale Aun davanti a sé c’era la sagoma di un team di tre persone che stavano correndo.

“Ah, Shikamaru?”

Alle parole di Naruto, anche Sakura guardò in basso sporgendosi in avanti.

“Ci sono anche Ino e Chōji! Sai, li avevi riconosciuti, vero?”

Quindi, erano il trio Ino-Shika-Chō. Sembrava che anche loro avessero riconosciuto le voci di Naruto e Sakura.

“Siete anche voi diretti al portale Aun*?” gridò Shikamaru, voltandosi. “Salite a bordo.” gridò Sai, e saltarono sullo strano uccello con loro tre. Il secondo in cui Chōji salì, l’uccello traballò e quasi si schiantò contro l’edificio, ma Sai riprese quota immediatamente.

Naruto e gli altri guardarono di nuovo il trio.

Shikamaru, Ino e Chōji erano amici d’infanzia, e formavano in passato un team di tre persone sotto Sarutobi Asuma. Tuttavia, ora erano per conto loro, avendo ciascuno una rispettiva posizione, e raramente si muovevano in gruppo tutti e tre insieme.

“Chiamati da Ino e da sua madre, abbiamo seguito le tracce del cliente regolare della fioreria.”

Alle parole di Shikamaru, solo adesso Naruto si ricordò il dettaglio che Sakura aveva fatto rapporto sulla sua investigazione a Kakashi.

“C’era una traccia?”

“Forse abbiamo finalmente trovato la locanda in cui alloggiava. Secondo quello che ha detto la proprietaria, sembra che lui abbia detto che sarebbe tornato a Konoha dopo il suo ritorno dalle cure termali.”

Potevano dedurne che il cliente regolare non aveva intenzione di nascondere dove si trovasse.

“Significa che è successo qualcosa nel viaggio di ritorno…?”

Ino annuì fermamente alle parole di Naruto.

“Questa persona… o meglio, Tadaichi-san, ha perso sua moglie presto. Era il tipo di persona che, se aveva tempo, comprava dei fiori al mio negozio e li dedicava a sua moglie. Una volta aveva un ruolo attivo negli Anbu, ma era parecchi anni fa.

Quest’anno si era ritirato come ninja, e aveva appena salutato dicendo che voleva ritornare nel posto in cui una volta aveva trascorso del tempo con sua moglie…”

Ino aveva questo cliente da quando era piccola, e probabilmente gli era anche affezionata.

“Guardate, adesso, la faccenda che sta succedendo a Kiri e Kumo. Ho paura che possa esserne coinvolto.”

Chōji disse: “Anche a Kumogakure stanno investigando, ma dal momento che ha piovuto in questi giorni dicono che anche l’odore sia stato lavato via e che rintracciarli sia difficile.”

Dal momento che Chōji stava avendo uno scambio culturale* con Karui, una kunoichi di Kumogakure, probabilmente aveva ottenuto la notizia con mezzi propri.

“Prima di tutto, dobbiamo fare qualcosa per ‘sta situazione.” disse Shikamaru per concludere la discussione, e fissò il portale Aun. All’interno del portale chiuso per la notte, delle fiamme si stavano alzando nel Villaggio della Foglia.

“Shikamaru, noi eravamo nella stanza di Kakashi-sensei fino a poco tempo fa, ma sembra che degli intrusi siano penetrati nel villaggio. I ninja del Team della Barriera dovrebbero averci preceduti.”

“Se è così, significa che se troviamo il Team della Barriera, troveremo il nemico!”

Alle parole di Shikamaru, Naruto si sporse con fermezza, e guardò in giro.

“…Lì!”

Di fronte alla linea dello sguardo di Naruto, c’era il Team della Barriera che lottava contro dei ninja che avevano tutta l’aria di essere i loro avversari. Nello stesso istante Shikamaru trovò il Team della Barriera, ma

“Che roba è, ma è solo una battaglia difensiva?” si accigliò.

Come aveva detto Shikamaru, i ninja del Team della Barriera si stavano ritirando completamente come per evitare lo scontro. Sembrava che ci fossero già dei feriti, e c’erano anche delle figure di ninja che erano crollati a terra in mezzo alla strada.

In quel mentre, Ino all’improvviso alzò la voce in un “Eh?”.

“Cosa c’è, Ino?” chiese Sakura, ma Ino non rispose, e provò a saltare giù da sola senza che si fermassero.

“Ino, attenta!”

Sai fermò Ino prendendola per un braccio. Lo sguardo di Ino rimase fisso sul nemico che stava attaccando il Team della Barriera.

“Non è possibile…”

Vedendo che il viso di Ino era diventato pallido, Chōji chiese “Cosa c’è che non va, Ino?”. Le labbra di Ino tremavano, e parlò cercando di stringerle.

“…Tadaichi-san.”

“Eh?”

“È Tadaichi-san!”

A quelle parole, tutti furono attraversati dallo shock. La persona che Ino aveva chiamato Tadaichi-san indossava degli abiti da viaggio, e il suo volto era vacuo come se gli fosse stata raschiata via ogni espressione.

“Sei sicura, Ino?” chiese Shikamaru come per chiedere conferma.

“Non mi sbaglio affatto! Ma lui non è il tipo di persona che scoprirebbe le zanne contro Konoha! Perché…”

Shikamaru guardò giù verso Tadaichi.

“C’è la possibilità che sia sotto l’influenza di un’illusione… giusto?”

Questa volta fu Sakura a restare senza fiato per la sorpresa a queste parole.

“Potrebbe essere come ha detto Shikamaru…”

“Cosa c’è, Sakura?”

Un’informazione a proposito della scomparsa delle persone che Sakura stava investigando fino a poco fa le ritornò in mente.

“Le persone scomparse!”

“Cosa!?”

“I ninja di Konoha! Forse sono tutti così!”

Shikamaru schioccò la lingua con un chi, e guardò i ninja del Team della Barriera.

“Così è per questo che sono costretti a una battaglia difensiva…!”

Forse c’era una persona fra il Team della Barriera che aveva li aveva riconosciuti come ninja di Konoha.

Comunque, se c’era un’illusione c’era la possibilità di poter restaurare il loro vero carattere con una contro-illusione. Il Team della Barriera stava certamente combattendo con questa intenzione. Un loro attacco che aveva poca convinzione nell’uccidere entrò in contatto con Tadaichi.

“Ma che… che sta succedendo dattebayo!”

Tuttavia allora qualcosa iniziò a gonfiarsi con un fuuri e sentirono un senso di oppressione come se stesse arrivando verso la loro direzione.

Il corpo di Tadaichi, che era stato ferito dal Team della Barriera ed era crollato, stava tremando sempre di più.

“…! Merda!”

Naruto fu il primo a saltare giù.

——Tecnica Superiore della Moltiplicazione del Corpo!!

Fece un sigillo a mezz’aria, e un Clone atterrò vicino ad ogni membro del Team della Barriera.

“Naruto?”

“Saltate!”

Si mise in spalla i ninja del Team della Barriera di peso, e li allontanò da quel posto immediatamente.

Se avessero guardato alle loro spalle, Tadaichi si stava lentamente sollevando. Nonostante fosse stato ferito, la sua faccia era ancora senza espressione. Il sangue che stava scorrendo copiosamente delle aperture delle sue ferite stava schiumando con un bukubuku. E non solo. Il corpo di Tadaichi si stava deformando con un suono gorgheggiante. Sembrava che una creatura estranea stesse strisciando dentro il suo corpo.

“Non allontanarti ancora…!”

Naruto si allontanò, scaricò i ninja del Team della Barriera in quello che sperava fosse un luogo sicuro e tentò di tornare indietro da Tadaichi per soccorrerlo.

Ma il suo corpo si era gonfiato come una sfera*, la sua pelle, che non aveva retto l’espansione, si squarciò, e poi——

“…!!”

Fece un lancinante doon, ed esplose come se fosse scoppiato. Non reggendo all’impatto dell’esplosione la casa di fianco fu distrutta. Fortunatamente non ci furono feriti perché i Cloni di Naruto si erano assicurati di prendere e portare fuori anche le persone vicino e all’interno dell’edificio,

L’Ultra Illustrazione Animale di Sai atterrò, e Sakura e tutti gli altri si precipitarono da Naruto.

“Tadaichi-san…”

Ino guardò il punto in cui dei pezzi di carne erano sparsi, attonita. Sakura mise una mano sulla schiena di Ino per confortarla, e Ino annuì “Sto bene.” per riprendere il controllo. Le due tornarono immediatamente correndo dal Team della Barriera, che era stato ferito.

Tuttavia, la minaccia non era ancora passata.

“Oi, non è sospetta ‘sta situazione?”

Guardando i ninja di Konoha probabilmente manipolati, Shikamaru indurì la sua espressione. Fino a non poco tempo fa stavano scoprendo le zanne contro il Team della Barriera, ma improvvisamente avevano iniziato a tornare indietro correndo verso quella direzione. Allora, si aggrapparono al muro che racchiudeva il Villaggio della Foglia estendendo entrambe le mani. Naruto fu preso alla sprovvista.

“Non è possibile! Anche loro!”

Naruto fissò i loro corpi. A quel punto, ciascuno di loro era ferito da qualche parte. Probabilmente le ferite erano dovute all’esplosione di Tadaichi.

Il sangue filtrò dalle quelle ferite aperte, a come poco tempo prima schiumò.

Sentirono un brivido scorrere lungo le loro schiene.

“…Shikamaru! Esploderanno tutti ‘ttebayo!”

“Cosa! Se l’esplosione di adesso avrà luogo con diversi corpi allo stesso tempo, tutt’attorno a quest’area potrebbe venir spazzato via!”

Erano rimaste nove persone. Il loro corpo si trasformò come se fossero stati trafitti dall’interno, e iniziarono ad espandersi. Shikamaru schioccò la lingua con un chi, e chiamò Chōji.

“Puoi mettere le ali con la Tecnica dell’Espansione*?”

“C-capito!”

“Uooooooo!”

La Tecnica Segreta del clan Akimichi**. Il corpo di Chōji diventò gigantesco in un batter d’occhio, e ali di farfalla crebbero dalla sua schiena. Quella tecnica utilizzava un enorme quantità di chakra. La carne delle guance di Chōji, una volta paffute, decrebbe della metà.

“Naruto, quanto manca all’esplosione!?”

“Circa dieci secondi!”

Nove, otto, sette——

“Afferrato! Tutti voi, fate il giro dietro Chōji! Tenetevi a qualcosa di saldo!”

Sei, cinque, quattro——

“Chōji, ora continua a sbattere le ali con tutta la tua forza!”

“Certo!”

Chōji, che aveva capito al volo le intenzioni di Shikamaru, si piazzò saldamente e fece sbattere le sue enormi ali fatte di chakra. Lo stesso chakra venne a far parte del vento.

*Questa parte mi ha fatto tribolare. Il verbo usato è 羽出す, che non ha riscontri se non in Naruto in un solo capitolo. Posso solo inferire che voglia dire ‘far crescere/mettere le ali’, riferendosi alla Modalità Farfalla di Chouji. La Tecnica dell’Espansione è ‘Baika’, anche se probabilmente si riferisce alla Tecnica del Gigantismo (Chou Baika).

Il rumore dell’esplosione risuonò con un doon. Insieme ad esso, i corpi aggrappati al muro scoppiarono immediatamente. Shikamaru fissò serio davanti a sé e gridò:

“Stanno arrivando!”

Anche se l’onda d’urto era diretta verso il centro città di Konoha, si scontrò contro il vento simile ad un tornado creato dal grande corpo di Chōji. Il vento incappò nell’onda d’urto, ed entrarono in conflitto.

“Arrivano i rinforzi ‘ttebayo!! Vieni, Kurama!”

——Ooh!

Prima era una fonte di continuo odio, ora era un compagno. Per supportare il vento di Chōji, Naruto chiamò Kurama, il Nove Code. L’energia circondò il corpo di Naruto, e si creò un Rasengan. Naruto lo rilasciò puntandolo verso l’onda d’urto. Il nuovo vento costrinse indietro l’onda d’urto, proteggendo il villaggio.

“Tutto a posto, è andata bene!”

L’onda d’urto, che si sforzava contro il vento di Chōji, grazie al sostegno del Rasengan di Naruto fu respinta dalla direzione del villaggio. Ogni albero vicino al portale venne agitato dal vento e dall’onda d’urto e venne falciato.

“…haa, haa… ce l’abbiamo fatta, in un modo o nell’altro, giusto?”

Rilasciando la tecnica, Chōji ansimava. Una sezione del muro che circondava Konoha era stata distrutta, ma sembrava che nel centro città non si fosse sofferto nessun danno. Anche le fiamme che si levavano sul villaggio furono spente dall’improvviso soffio di vento.

Shikamaru diede un colpo sulla spalla di Chōji con un “Eccellente!”.

Sakura corse verso il muro che era stato distrutto, ma lasciò cadere le spalle con un’aria mortificata. Ogni singola rovina era ridotta in briciole impossibili da riparare. Anche Ino si morse a fondo le labbra.

“Per il momento, facciamo rapporto al Sesto. Sai, manda un’Ultra Illustrazione Animale dicendo che ci dispiace.”

Shikamaru diede velocemente ordini. Anche Naruto tentò di seguirlo.

“Naruto!”

Mentre Sai stava disegnando, all’improvviso udirono una voce chiamare Naruto. Un uomo che di vista aveva un viso incorniciato da grandi occhiali da sole*, e dritti capelli neri si stava dirigendo di corsa verso di loro.

“…Err, chi sei?”

Si ricordava di lui ma non il suo nome.

“Yamashiro Aoba!”

“Ya-ma-shi-ro-a-o-ba…**?”

“Siamo andati insieme nell’Isola-Tartaruga a Kumogakure!”

“Aah, sì, sì! Eh, cosa c’è, andiamo di nuovo all’Isola-Tartaruga?”

“No! Sono un messaggero da parte dell’Hokage!”

Aoba, che si ricordava del pericolo imminente, gridò la questione principale senza chiacchiere fuori luogo.

“Da parte di Kakashi-sensei? Che cos’è dattebayo?”

“Proprio ora, sembra che degli intrusi siano stati percepiti dalla barriera, trenta di loro!”

“…Eh!?”

Le voci di sorpresa di ognuno di loro si sovrapposero. Trenta. L’attacco appena avvenuto triplicato.

NOTE:

*Altro pezzo incerto. Letteralmente ‘la larghezza della cornice ampia con occhiali da sole’ o ‘la larghezza della cornice con occhiali da sole ampi’. Posso solo immaginare che voglia dire che la cornice della faccia di Aoba era larga perché indossava occhiali da sole.

**La prima volta, quando lo pronuncia Aoba, il nome è scritto in kanji e katakana, come dovrebbe essere (山城アオバ). La seconda volta, quando lo pronuncia Naruto, è scritto in hiragana, il che significa che Naruto sta solo riproducendo il suono del nome, senza capirne il significato. L’ho reso come ho potuto.

“Vuoi dire che ci sono nuovi intrusi? Che ora sono stati capaci di percepirli?”

Aoba annuì alle parole di Sakura.

“Ha-ahn, si stanno dirigendo verso questa direzione in questo momento.”

Nel mezzo di questa discussione, dalla parte opposta del muro che era stato distrutto, Naruto percepì uno sguardo provenire dall’interno del bosco.

C’era un uomo, ora, dall’interno del bosco oscuro. Dopo di lui, ne apparvero uno dopo l’altro come se fossero stati collegati. In questo modo, Sakura mormorò “Forse sono quelli là.” con uno sguardo sconcertato.

Indossavano le uniformi ninja. Il fatto è che quelle uniformi ninja erano un misto tra quelle di Kirigakure e quelle di Kumogakure. Anche nei coprifronte, il simbolo di Kirigakure e Kumogakure era inciso in ciascuno di loro.

Voltando la testa velocemente, “A quanto pare sta per diventare una seccatura…” si lamentò Shikamaru.

“Naruto, voialtri, eravate dal Sesto — da Kakashi-sensei, no? Poi siete venuti qui di corsa sentendo che qualcuno aveva invaso il villaggio. Facendo una supposizione dalla discussione di adesso, significa che il Team della Barriera non è riuscito a percepire i nemici dell’inizio finché non sono entrati all’interno del villaggio.”

“Ah, ha-ahn.”

Shikamaru parlava come se fossero davvero lì.

“Anche se sono manipolati da qualcuno, Tadaichi e gli altri erano ninja di Konoha. Per cui probabilmente erano in grado di scivolare all’interno della barriera senza essere percepiti. Comunque, probabilmente all’ultimo c’erano delle postazioni tappabuchi.”

I corpi d’armata manipolati stavano avanzando lentamente. Non si percepiva nessuna intenzione nei loro occhi, che erano fiacchi. Erano il corpo principale dell’armata.

“In più, per quanto riguarda chi fossero prima di oggi, c’è perfino la possibilità che fossero i ninja di Kiri e Kumo di cui si erano perse le tracce. Mannaggia, uno dopo l’altro…”

Shikamaru si grattò la testa con un garigari.

“Shikamaru. Eppure una ferita potrebbe dare il via ad un’esplosione. Dello strano chakra viene emesso dalle loro ferite, e inizia una metamorfosi nel loro corpo.”

Così che anche Naruto potesse afferrare la loro situazione, a quanto pare anche Sakura aveva letto tra le righe di dare il via ad un’esplosione.

“Se è così, dobbiamo stare attenti a non scateNAR Un TOrnado…*”

Shikamaru fece un’espressione severa, e guardò i ninja che si stavano avvicinando.

Allora, la situazione non era sono un problema di Konoha.

*Qui c’è un gioco di parole troppo carino per non spiegarlo. La frase è: そうなるとうかつに手を出せねエぞ (Sou naru to ukatsu ni te wo dasenee zo, lett. ‘Stando così le cose, non possiamo fare una mossa incautamente’). Se si traduce la prima parte, si ha ‘sounaruto’, che significa ‘Stando così le cose/se è così/in questo caso’, scritto in Hiragana (come dovrebbe essere — di solito i nomi sono scritti in Katakana). Ma se si divide la frase in modo diverso, si ha ‘Sou Naruto ukatsu ni te wo dasenee zo’, che si traduce con “Per cui, Naruto, non puoi muoverti incautamente”.

Da notare ancora che la forma negativa potenziale di ‘te wo dasu’ è ‘te wo dasenee’ invece di ‘te wo dasenai’, con il tipico strascicamento di Shikamaru.
