Knight Fantastic Night a14Chapter 1 part1

TL: Initially, I titled this chapter as ... "Phone call to a medieval mobile phone connected". What a shitty title. I was clearly high when I typed that last year. 

Lin Ling tries her best to push away the panic welling up in her. She hesitated for some time before picking it up.

The phone had yet to stop ringing. The screen shows garbled strings of text.

This is absolutely ludicrous to begin with! You can actually call a phone in the game world? T-T-This is downright impossible!

To Lin Ling herself, this is all too strange.

Her motion sluggish, she put the phone next to her ear and pressed on the button to answer the call. After a second of silence, a voice spoke up from the phone. 

"Hey---" 

Although the caller only spoke a word, the shocking realization struck her like a lightning bolt.

This voice... She recognized this voice. It was a voice so familiar to her, she would definitely never mistook it.

"Qi Wen Yu?"

She called out the name unsure of her deduction.

The caller seems to be surprised as well, and blurted out in reply. 

"Why is it you?" 

"You--" 

Before Lin Ling could even say a word, he hung up.

"Heyheyhey! Qi Wen Yu! Why did you hung up!"

She agitatedly shook the phone in her hand, as though convinced doing so would make the other party cough up the reason as to why he can make a phone call to the game world.

"So you were hiding in this room all this while." 

Just when she was busy being jumpy, a somber voice can be heard from behind her. Lin Ling's heart stilled for a moment, and she turned to look back. It was Duarte at the doorway. It was dark so she can't make out what expression he was wearing.

"123, how did you manage to run into this room?" 

Percival came as well. Within the dim lighting, she can see concern on his face.

She may be cornered, but Lin Ling cannot afford to be scared. With her phone in her hand, she demanded answers. 

"Duarte, why are you having my phone with you? How did you manage to receive calls from my world?"

Duarte kept quiet for some time before slowly opening his mouth. 

"Who was guarding this room today?"

"Sir, it was a group of four knights."

Someone replied his query.

"Good. Find those knights and whip them one hundred times each. Strip their titles and exile them from Rome."

"But sir! They left their post to help block the exit!"

"Their assigned task comes first, and they failed miserably. The punishment I gave is fitting for their failure." 

Duarte spat out his words without mercy. 

"Do as I commanded!"

"Duarte! You have not answered me!" 

Lin Ling clearly knew she is in a dangerous predicament, but her heart filled with confusion and doubt refuse to back down without answers.

"Percival, what are the consequences for those who trespassed this room?" 

Duarte spoke in a deep voice.

"Sir, Lin Ling never knew in the first place---"

"ANSWER ME!"

"--- They are sentenced to death." 

Percival wanted to say something, but he was cut short by Duarte.

"Lin Ling, I think you heard that one loud and clear."

The insides of her head is a mess. It was full with doubt and questions about the connection between her cell phone and Duarte, so she was not listening at all when they were talking. Right when they repeated it again, only then did she notice.

It can't be!!*

TL: Yes, it can be! It's a CLIFFHANGER! :D
