Chapter 22: Abandoned Railway Line – Get Off the Train at the Abandoned Station (1)

“Vroommmmmm!!!!!”

The steam whistle of the train suddenly rang in the quiet night.

The heavy and unique “clang” sounds of old locomotive unceasingly echoed on the railway, which had a strong sense of rhythm and a special charm.

For the old citizens of Jiangjin city, this sound accompanied them through their entire childhood. When this city was newly built, the railway extended all around  the city.

However, as the city become increasingly developed, the railway became the biggest obstacle to expanding the city. With a sudden disruption in expansion, in addition to higher cost-efficiency and quiet bullet train that had been put into use, the original old train and railway were starting to be phased out.

Until now, there is only one old train still running in Jiangjin city. People regard it as a remembrance of old times. In that case, its compartments weren’t it’s original rusty appearance anymore; it was more close to a tourist train.

“It is a pity. I heard that the government has decided to abandon Jiangyue Railway Line.” After shoveling the last scoop of coal into the furnace, then shutting the door of the furnace, the old stoker wiped his sweat by using his towel. After that, he sighed and said: “Maybe this is one of the last times we will do this work.”

“Is it true?” The young stoker sat on the dark chair, picking up his kettle and took a swig of tea, then said with a disbelieving look, “Isn’t the profit and attraction of Jiangyue Line great? Many tourists who visit this place loved it very much, aside from the tourists even the older generation of citizens consider this place important. They won’t allow this happen.”

Xu Shenxing sighed. He picked up the iphone and was going to give it back to the monitor, but the picture on the screen caught his eyes.

It seemed that the four-eyes monitor was using it to view the news. The headline of the news was “The Citizens of Jiangjin City Protesting against the Plan to Abandon Jiangyue Railway Line”. The picture was about the protesters. They held small wooden signs and took a long banner.

However, it wasn’t the main problem. The main problem was that he could clearly see Monkey’s face among these protesters.

In the picture, his left cheek painted with “Traitors of the Chinese People!” and his right cheek painted with “Get out of Jiangjin City!”. In his hand, he held a wooden sign which marked “Let’s go against the plan of abandon Jiangyue Line together!”.

To be honest, it was completely another person if you compared with his perverted appearance in the University.

“Oh, this.” He leaned over his head and looked at the picture on the screen of the iphone. “My dad used to be a driver for this old train, and I grew up in the train. Now, they are planning to knock down Jiangyue Line, I naturally will stand out to protest it.”(ED:Homeless guy spotted!!)

“Unfortunately, your protests has no effect.”

The monitor pushed his glasses up his nose. Maybe it was because he felt unhappy because he was knocked down; maybe he simply wanted to retort. He said, “From the news, it seems that the municipal government doesn’t intend to withdraw their plan. They have been put the development plan on the agenda.”

“Then I will go to protest again.” “Monkey” shrugged his shoulders with an indifferent expression.

“I! Have! Told! You! They won’t withdraw their planning scheme simply because of your protests!” The monitor’s pitch was getting higher and higher. “Do you think it’s an easy thing to make a plan?!”
