A short story to celebrate the release of the third volume.

The timeframe is after the main arcs. Though it's called “adventures”, it doesn't have a storytelling vibe.

I plan on characters that appear only in the books to turn up but I'll be explaining each time, so there's no problem even if you didn't read them.

This is a gag. The characters are all hyper, starting with Lycoris.

The Adventures of Duke Lilia's Daughter

Prologue (Shade POV)

「Suke-san！　Kaku-san！　We've arrived!」(1)

Elder Sister declared that with a broad smile as she opened the door.

For some reason, she called out the name 『Suke-san』 when she'd clearly been looking at me and 『Kaku-san』 when she'd been looking at Wolf. –I don't get it. What the heck is she going on about?

It seems no one else in the room right now had a problem with that but me.

The people other than me who'd been waiting in this room under Lycoris's direction were Wolf, who was already staying at our home like it was only natural, and Miss Liliam, who was staying for the first time. That's it. In other words, aside from me, there were only Lycoris worshippers in here. It's a dreadful space to be in.

Speaking of those worshippers, this was how they responded to Lycoris's words:

Wolf had sprang up and started to put on the tunic he'd taken off, in a sort of way that seemed to say 『I at least understand we're going somewhere』. In Miss Liliam's case, she asked Lycoris 「Will you be bringing only the two of them? Can't I join you as well?」 with a dejected expression on her face.

「That's not it, Lily！ I just wanted to say something an elderly gentleman would say… I've prepared you the role of 『the TV series heroine that accompanies us on the journey』 after all！ We'll be keeping you safe during the trip so rest assured――」

「Never mind that, just explain the situation first」

When I rebuked my sister's incomprehensible words just a little harshly, I was met with critical looks from Wolf and Miss Liliam. There would be disapproval from that bunch of worshippers just by saying something a little rudely to Lycoris.

–Seeing that the conversation wouldn't proceed if I hadn't done this, their reactions were just too irrational.

「Well, you see, Suke-san and Kaku-san are characters from a story」

What Elder Sister summarized was the plot of the story 『Mito Koumon Manyuuki』. It seems Suke-san and Kaku-san were both characters of the story and they were the retainers who accompanied a high-ranking elder's carefree journey. Incidentally, Suke-san is a playboy who loved women while Kaku-san is an honest, earnest and straight-laced guy.

「……In other words, you basically just called me a womanizer a few moments ago……」

「That's not it. Really, Shade, were you even listening? He may have a fondness for women but he's a master swordsman! He's cool!」

「……Oh」

While holding very mixed feelings about this, I recapped Elder Sister's claims for now.

「So then？　Does that mean you want to pretend to be in 『Mito Koumon』, Elder Sister?」

Faced with a tone and expression that didn't conceal my disgust, it seems even Lycoris did a little self-reflection. She cleared her throat, looking as if she calmed down a little.

「No, wanting to pretend to be in the story, Mito Koumon, is certainly a maiden's――no, all of mankind's shared dream, but……」

「What gibberish are you spouting?」

「――It was the dream but I got stopped by Delphy」

Delphy — Delphy Gram is the man who works as the magistrate in charge of managing this land on behalf of Duke Lilia, who was often away from the territory. In other words, as far as we were concerned, he was our father's subordinate.

He has an honest and sincere personality. It was only recently that he took over from his predecessor, but he's been accomplishing those duties well. The trust that Duke Lilia had in him ran so deep that the people in our household were instructed by the duke 『to rely on him when I'm not around』.

Such an individual would never let her do something like undercover work, even if Lycoris begged him to.

「Well of course he'd stop you. Or rather, troubling people by proposing something weird with your standing as a duke's daughter as a pretext isn't praiseworthy, you know. It's not becoming of a wise, careful elder sister」

Lycoris scowled deeply at my obvious sarcasm.

「That nature of yours to take the opportunity to criticize your elder sister isn't admirable, Shade. ――Anyway, I did end up getting stopped but Delphy said it's fine as long as it's an ordinary excursion. It seems he arranged several things for us and it's now become a reality」

Lycoris put an end to that discussion for the moment and looked around the vicinity with a hopeful expression on her face.

「That being the case… All those who want to go on this trip together, raise your hands~~」

Facing Elder Sister's wide smile, I could instantly predict how it would unfold from here on.

That is, the two worshippers, who'd silently lent an ear to Elder Sister's words, immediately raised their hands without bothering to even ask about the destination.

And so, I got dragged into it regardless of whether I raised my hand or not.
