I see you everywhere

Jiro had extra energy after they left from talking to Masako, he was walking towards his work with an overflowing happiness throughout his body. He still hadn't mentioned anything to Hanae about the problem that had arisen the day before but the fact that it was solved so quickly, he could only interpret it that his fortune was finally changing in his favor. It also meant something else, that after school Jiro would have plenty of time to rest or even go home. He was so happy that he had completely forgot about his fateful encounter with Inoue Rei.

- Oh, Jiro-Kun, did something good happen? You look so happy. -

The Manager asked Jiro who entered the hotel in a very good mood. He quickly noticed that everyone was already gathered in a circle to start distributing the activities: "I'm so sorry, am I late? Good afternoon everyone! -

- Don't worry, we were just about to start the meeting, you're on time. - The manager, who had some sheets in her hand ready to hand them out, remarked. - Everyone, say hi, don't be rude. -

- Good afternoon Jiro-Kun. - ... - Good afternoon, welcome. -... - Good afternoon. Ready for your first day of work? - ...

"Rei is not here, did something happen to her?" His head rushed to the thought that maybe it had been his fault that she did not attend work, if she did not want to be by his side.

- Good afternoon everyone... uh... Inoue-san didn't come today, is she alright? -

- Oh I thought she would have told you because she's your classmate from the school, she asked me to be late every Tuesday, she'll make up for it by staying an extra hour at the end of the day. -

- Oh... I understand. Well I'm just glad she's okay. -

"I'm glad I'm not the reason for her being absent."

Jiro's activities within the job were mainly to support in the service operation, thanks to his work with Mr. Bushido he had knowledge in mixing cocktail drinks, so from time to time, even though he couldn't drink alcoholic beverages he did prepare them very well. He was also in charge of room service when necessary and of carrying and bringing the supplies needed for the operation, so occasionally he had to go to the warehouse.

19:30 hours

- Jiro please bring some more strawberries from the warehouse. A customer asked us for a special dessert since they are coming for an anniversary dinner. -

- Of course, of course! I'll bring them right away. -

Since Jiro was in almost every corner of the hotel it was not strange that the head chef also asked him for support from time to time. He knew where the warehouse was located since it was mentioned to him in training. What he didn't know was that when he opened the door he would find Inoue Rei.

- Uh... well... good eve... -

Jiro didn't expect to see that beautiful girl's face all of a sudden, he was too focused on his day's activities.

- Good evening... -

The warehouse had a small desk with a computer, where Rei supported the manager in the administrative tasks, generally she was in charge of keeping the reservations up to date, knowing which rooms were occupied, as well as making sure that the cleaning was done in a timely manner. She also received special requests from guests on her computer, from ordering towels, ice or even special dinners such as the anniversary cake. Of course, none of this was known to Jiro because in the training he only knew the activities he would be doing.

Jiro set out to find the strawberries in one of the refrigerators, he still didn't know where everything was kept so it was a little complicated to find them, and even more so that Rei was behind him.

- Are you getting used to the job...? -

Jiro blurted out the question out of nowhere, he had always found it awkward when two people stayed in complete silence.

- Yeah... It's simple, I was doing something similar in my previous job. -

"She answered me... I would like to ask you more about your previous job... but I really don't think I should" Jiro was surprised because he thought that after that encounter he wouldn't be able to have a friendly relationship with Rei; however, he only managed to reply, still looking for the strawberries and without turning to look at her.

- I'm sorry... it wasn't my intention to make you angry, it was whimsical to ask you to call me Jiro... if we barely knew each other, I didn't want to bother you...".

This time there was no answer, silence reigned and Jiro was getting more uncomfortable. Finally he found the strawberries that were in a container to protect them well. He stood up and turned around to Rei who was staring at the screen and looking at an Excel sheet with a lot of numbers.

- I found the strawberries, I'm leaving. -

Jiro sketched a smile to Rei as he was about to leave the warehouse; however, before he could leave, it happened.

- Yoshida... I'm sorry –

A shiver ran through Jiro's body at that very moment.

- Masaki-San told me today at school that it wasn't your intention to try to be intimate with me... and that in fact you had asked the same thing to the whole classroom. -

"I owe you a chocolate doughnut Mio!"

- No, no! It's not my intention at all... I just wanted to get along, since we'll be at school and work together... so... -

Jiro's voice faded away as he gave his explanation, it seemed like a silly excuse to himself, he just didn't like not getting along with people and he didn't know how to deal with people like Rei whom he couldn't figure out how she was feeling so easily.

- Tell me Inoue... Did Mio tell you the reason why I don't like to use my last name? -

The question totally surprised Rei, Jiro's semblance had changed, he was tense, nervous and she noticed it.

- Don't worry, she didn't tell me anything else, Mio is a good girl. -

And at that instant, with Rei's smile, Jiro realized that that smile in front of the classroom had been nothing more than a bizarre mask and this smile at this very moment was the real Inoue Rei.

- Although... I'm really sorry... I really can't call you by your name... It's not something against you and I'm really sorry for yelling at you in class... I... I just can't get along with men... in fact I think I hate you a little bit for the way you are. -

The smile disappeared as fast as light on a cloudy day, this time Jiro noticed sadness and fear again, that same sadness and fear as that morning when she yelled in front of all their classmates. Although hate was a word he had come to feel it deeply but never had someone said it to him.

- So you hate me? No... don't worry about it. You don't have to call me that... To be honest with you I don't like my last name... I would feel uncomfortable giving you details... But it's still a whim of mine and I can't force you, it would be unfair, right? -

Jiro smiled again to Rei, who soon turned her gaze back to the computer screen.

- Well, I have to go, they are waiting for the strawberries. -

Jiro again was about to leave the warehouse, at least now he had a slightly clearer answer as to what had happened in the morning.

- But... You're right! It would be heavy for both of us to go on with our lives if we don't learn to communicate... if we see each other at school and now at work... even if I hate you a little... Is it okay if I call you Yoshida for now? -

Rei said this only turning to look at him out of the corner of her eye while still concentrating on the computer screen.

"Really... What's wrong with this girl? She can't squeeze my thoughts over and over again with every single thing she says."

- Yes please and thank you... for hating me just a little less; Take care of me, Inoue-San -

Jiro didn't know at that instant what his nonstop smile was provoking little by little in Rei's head, who on this occasion didn't stop Jiro anymore and he disappeared through the door of the warehouse.

April 17, 2033

The days progressed normally, since that day Jiro and Rei did not speak to each other beyond a good morning in the morning and a hello when they went to work. It hadn't been necessary for Jiro to go into the warehouse either so at work he didn't see her that often. A week went by and finally Sunday arrived. Jiro was supposed to work in the afternoon, but during the morning he would have a first meeting with the photography club. Masako had chosen Sunday to plan the upcoming meetings as it might not be easy for everyone to attend on the same days if it was not within a normal class schedule.

They had decided to meet at a coffee shop near the school at 09:00 am, Jiro didn't usually go to coffee shops much unless it was with Kota or Mio, so going with the renowned student council president was quite an honor.

- Good morning Masako-San. -

Jiro arrived 10 minutes before the appointed time, but Masako was already in the place, reading a book and drinking a cup of coffee. "It was to be expected of the President to arrive earlier."

- Oh, good morning Jiro-Kun, you're early. -

- Shouldn't I say that to you? -

Jiro was sitting on a couch opposite to where Masako was sitting.

- It's true, I like this coffee shop because it has delicious coffee, sometimes I arrive even before I go to school. -

- Are you a coffee addict so young? -

- Maybe yes... maybe not... -

Masako frowned which made her look very sweet.

- Hahaha sorry, sorry. You looked so cute like that, you reminded me of Hanae -

- Don't mock me Jiro, are you comparing me to your little sister? -

- A little bit maybe. -

Jiro smiled at Masako and for an instant he remembered Rei. "I wish I could talk to her as well as I talk to Masako... I'd like to get to know her a little better."

- Good morning! -

A greeting was heard and soon Chiba Natsumi, the third member of the photography club, approached.

- Good morning, President, good morning Jiro-kun. Have you been waiting long? -

Natsumi arrived and sat next to Masako. As it was Sunday, they were not wearing uniforms, so Jiro was curious to see their classmates in normal clothes as they looked very different.

- Good morning, how lively you look Chiba.

- Good morning Chiba-San. Don't worry, Jiro just arrived and I decided to arrive earlier to read a little bit. -

They both responded by welcoming Natsumi.

- Alright, then, shall we start? We are all right, aren't we? -

Jiro took the initiative as he was a bit curious about how the club's activities worked; although he enjoyed photography, he had never really seen it beyond taking some pictures with his cell phone.

- Wait a little longer, we are 4 members, it shouldn't take long... She just arrived! We're over here -

Masako lifted up a little from the couch she was sitting on so she could wave her hand at the person who was coming in. "Why is this happening, does God still hate me?"

A petite girl in a white blouse and short skirt appeared, golden hair, intense blue eyes with a backpack over her shoulder. Inoue Rei had appeared; as she and Jiro exchanged glances they realized a reality they had not wanted to see. From that moment on, whether they wanted to or not, they would spend every day side by side.

- What the hell are you doing here? You're a stalker... -

Rei had a fulminating look on her face as she approached looking directly at Jiro.

- Of course I'm not! I didn't know you were at this club... -

- Well, now you know, you have to go to another club, I'm not going to spend more time with you than I already spend at school and work. -

Rei sat next to Jiro as she mumbled those words. "How do you want me to leave if you just blocked my only way out of the place, you're crazy!"

- I'm not going anywhere... this is the only club I can belong to or I won't be able to work! -

- It's all the same to me! I signed up first before you so you have to go. -

- That's not true! -

Rei crossed her arms while looking straight ahead with an annoyed face while Jiro turned to look at her trying to know what was going on in this girl's head, both completely ignoring Masako and Natsumi.

- Well, well, are you guys boyfriend and girlfriend? -

Masako's voice brought both of them back to reality that they were not alone, realizing that Masako and Natsumi were watching them both with a smile on their faces.

- We're not! -

Jiro blurted out.

- Never in a million years would I be with him! -

- Oh... well, how drastic Inoue. Did Jiro do something to you? -

Masako asked as she took a sip of her coffee.

- Exist. -

- Hey! That hurt. -

- Hahaha. There, there. Stop it, both of you. You really don't have a choice, do you? As I understand it you both need to work and as Jiro says this is the only club that will give you the freedom because of the special permission I acquired from the school in return they're asking us to take it seriously. Is it that bad for you two to be together? -

- I don't dislike Inoue, I would like to get to know her more, but it's difficult to do so under these circumstances... -

" why do you say it like that, stop messing with my head dammit!" Rei's head was in complete chaos, as she blushed a little trying not to let anyone notice.

- Oh. How honest you are Jiro-Kun, I like straightforward people. -

Masako leaned her elbows on the table while holding her chin with her hands watching Jiro carefully.

- What about you Inoue, will you be able to live with him? -

Now he turned to look at Rei.

- I hate the way he says things...but he hasn't done anything to me...I'd hate even more to feel guilty about him having to drop out of school for not finding a club...so if there's no other choice. I'll put up with it a little longer. -

- Well it's decided, the four of us are the new photography club! -

Masako raised her arms in victory while Natsumi clapped her hands with a smile knowing it would be a fun club.

- Although if I'm honest I thought you would get along much better. -

Masako say to them continuing the conversation.

- Why did you think that Masako-San? -

Jiro asked, he would really like to have an outside opinion on how he could get along better with Rei.

- Well... You have too many things in common, don't you? Both of you are the best GPAs of the generation, I saw the results and there was very little difference between first and second place. Both of you dropped out of school for a year for mysterious reasons and both of you moved from a remote city. You sit in class together, work together and now you will be in the club together... Anyone would think that fate is trying to tell you something. -

"Oh... so she's from another city too? That I didn't know."

Jiro wasn't interested why Rei had stopped studying for a year, due to the fact that the day she introduced herself she said not to ask her about that, so it was something he had crossed off his list of things he wanted to know about Inoue Rei.

"Does he have a reason to disappear too?"

Rei had a hard time communicating with any guy, something she was pretty good at avoiding and in this situation she had been so focused on hating him that she realized didn't know anything about him.

- Well... I disagree. -

Jiro started saying.

- No matter how close or how much in common people have, even if it's family... you can hate them too. -

"..." these words sent a shiver throughout Rei's body, a feeling so familiar yet so distant to see it reflected in the face of someone other than her.

- So... no matter how much we have in common, she can hate me if she wants to. But for me I don't dislike Inoue, I know how hard it is to work, I know how hard it was for me to study for the exam, I know how hard it is to start in a new city and have responsibilities... so I can't say that we are more than a couple of strangers, but I admire her a lot. -

Jiro blurted all that out in one breath as he smiled at the girls, who were dazzled by such words.

- Couldn't you hold back a little...? I think you turned her off. -

Natsumi spoke looking with her eyes at the girl next to Jiro, who was completely red, Inoue Rei showing a face she had never shown before. She covered her face with a hand while trying to control her emotions.

- That's why I hate the way you say stuff so much... -

Rei finally started to say.

- But you're right... I know how hard you try at work, if we don't try to get along we'll cause trouble for The president... so I'll try. -

- Thank you...

- But I'll keep calling you Yoshida! -

- Sure, sure. No problem. -

- Well, well, well. We need to start with the meeting, do you agree?

Both Jiro and Rei glared at Masako who seemed most amused by the whole situation. She was a very peculiar student president.

- I'll take that as a yes. The club activities are mainly divided into 2. The first one is practices, we will try to do them all together or at least in couples if the times don't suit everyone. I'm going to give you a camera to each of you from the ones we have in the photography club. -

- Just a moment. I don't know about the others, but I don't know how to use a professional camera - Natsumi said raising her hand.

- Neither do I. -

- Neither do I, sorry. -

Both Rei and Jiro joined in the refusal.

- Don't worry about it! Before we move on to the second part I want us to come up with some possible practice schedules, One hour would be enough to be able to practice once a week either at school or on the street. Do you have some free time after you leave school? -

- I have an hour and a half that I spend at home before I go to work. I guess once a week I could spend it at the club if that's okay with you guys. It could also be after work, but that's already too late at night. -

Jiro brought up his schedule possibilities. Hanae was already growing up so he didn't see a problem with once a week not going home straight away to see how she was doing, it would help her to be more independent.

- I have the same free hours as he does. I just want them to be on fixed days if possible, because that way I can schedule myself better with my daily activities. -

Rei had always been very organized, not for nothing the hotel manager had chosen her to support those activities.

- I imagined that you would have a similar schedule, Natsumi had already told me that any day would be fine for her, and I have a similar amount of time before starting my activities in the student council. Now what day sounds good? Tuesday sounds good? -

- No! Tuesday is out of the question. -

Jiro spoke without thinking when he heard the word Tuesday, he himself didn't understand what made him react so fast. He didn't really have anything to do that day; however, the hotel manager had remarked last Tuesday that Rei would always be late that day. He didn't really know why nor did he expect to know why in the future. He only knew that if Rei was late for work it must be something very important to her.

- Calm down Jiro-kun, it doesn't have to be Tuesday, any day could be What day sounds better? -

Masako didn't know the reason for the reaction and tried to continue with the conversation while Rei turned to look at Jiro, with curious eyes trying with her eyes to find out what he was thinking. "Did you do that for me...? No, that would be impossible." She decided to get involved in the conversation.

- For me it would be better on a Wednesday or Thursday. -

- What about you Jiro-Kun? -

- I think Wednesday would be better for me. -

- Then it's settled! Wednesdays will be our practice days. -

- But we still don't know how to use the cameras. -

Jiro interrupted Masako.

- I know, that's why I need to teach you all about photography. The second part of the club activities is to be able to learn the basics, know how to handle the cameras, learn what style of photography you like and much more. I know it would be heavy, but I think that Sundays like today would be the ideal days for this since all of you have them free in the mornings, right? -

- Sundays are fine with me, don't worry, if it wasn't for this I wouldn't be able to stay and study at Shinsei so I'm grateful for the opportunity. -

- I'm in the same situation as this guy. -

Rei said pointing at Jiro without looking at him.

- What about you Natsumi-chan? -

Masako turned to look at Natsumi who was a bit thoughtful.

- IT CAN'T BE! YOU ALL ARE MY SEMPAIS! YOU ARE BIGGER THAN ME! -

Natsumi let out a scream that could be heard throughout the whole coffeeshop.

- Are you just now realizing that? Hahaha, you're so funny Natsumi-chan -

- Chiba-san, we're in the same room so you don't need to be so formal with me, don't worry about formalities, call me Jiro please.

- You and Mio have been very kind with me e in school activities, don't worry about that. -

"So, yes you can call other people by name, but not me... Is it just that you can't say it to men?"

Jiro fluttered in his head as the talk continued.

- I have a proposition for you guys. -

Masako continued

- For today it's fine to meet in this place, but for the next Sundays I think it would be complicated to explain everything and do a photo review here. Is it okay if we take turns to set up our houses as meeting points? -

- Of course, I'd love to! -

Natsumi said.

- Mmm I think it would be no problem, Hanae will be happy to have guests, although I live in a small apartment, is there a problem? -

- Don't worry about it Jiro-kun, they are welcome from my side too, how about you Inoue? -

- Ha...-

Rei hesitated a bit before answering.

- Yeah...okay, but...could you guys skip me in the role for once please? I might not be able to receive visits until next month... -

- Don't worry! Let's do this, next Sunday we'll meet at my place, then it will be Jiro's turn, then my place again, then Natsumi will follow and for next month the role will continue with Inoue included. Is this role okay with you? -

- Sorry for the inconvenience, I'm fine with it. -

- Don't worry Reeei! -

Natsumi expressed with emotion.

- Sure, I think so. -

After half an hour of seeing details finally everyone agreed with dates and times, Masako and Natsumi left the place and for a moment Rei sat in front of Jiro while he finished his coffee, she didn´t order anything to drink. Rei stared at the boy.

- Hum. What's wrong Inoue-San? -

- Yoshida-kun, I hate you. -

- Yeah... you already told me that. -

- But I guess if I have to see a man for so long, it's not the worst thing in the world if it's you. -

- Huh? What do you mean by that? -

Rei looked at him deeply as if trying to unravel Jiro's deepest thoughts, both were silent for a moment and finally she got up from her place to leave.

- I'll see you later at work Yoshida-kun-

Rei walked towards the door leaving Jiro confused and in thought.

"What did she mean by all that? I just don't understand her.

It was almost 10:30 in the morning when Jiro decided to leave so he could go home to do his homework and get some rest before starting work, so he stopped one of the waitresses at the cafeteria he was in.

- Excuse me, could you bring me the bill please? -

- The bill? Oh! Excuse me young man, your girlfriend already paid. -

- My girlfriend? -

- Yes. Was your girlfriend the golden-haired girl who was with you a moment ago? She paid for your coffee. -

- .... Oh... I understand, thank you... -

Jiro felt that he was good at understanding people, he was constantly striving to get along with others; however, with Rei it was different, every action, every word that came out of her mouth, every melancholic, happy or angry look he saw from her and every surprise only made him more confused, and so without him realizing it as the days, weeks and months went by. He could never get her out of his mind again.
