Extraordinary Great Antiquity Chapter 7-8

Chapter 7 Astral Wind, Thunder, and Fire: Mortal Body Tempering (2)

The mysterious elemental stratum is a place so named for the three elemental energies it contains.

• Wind (Astral), Thunder, and Fire

Together, these elements form a subtle balance, shrouding heaven and earth as one.

Undisturbed, this balance will never break.

But if a foreign presence were to invade, that balance would vanish.

Like piercing the heavens, it would bring about a suffocating catastrophe.

Every kind of energy inside the stratum would erupt a terrifying destructive force, attacking until the foreign presence was removed.

When all was quiet,

balance restored.

The elemental stratum would, again, appear to be rather normal from the outside.

Its interior, however, hid another world;

A universe where trillions of colors, too brilliant to detail, intertwine.

But, its radiant beauty belies the ominous aura hiding just beneath the surface.

Dreadful silence.

Moments passed, and all Luo Fan could hear was the faint thrum of his heartbeat.

"Bang!"

The entire world shook as every elemental energy within 100 miles had erupted a heaven frightening strength.

Endless energy began surging toward him.

Like a boundless ocean, the invincible might was dreadful!

"Boom!"

Luo Fan's complexion changed as the impact stripped flesh from bone.

Then, an immeasurable golden light emitted from his body. The mysterious energy, in vivo, was already mending his wounds.

In this brief moment, he was like an immortal descending to earth.

But, Luo Fan's tribulation was not over.

The balance was broken.

The cycle of savage agony was only just beginning.

Heal, wound, heal, wound, repeat.

It was endless.

Through it all, however, Luo Fan had a bloodied grin.

For him, this was a bittersweet happiness.

Every time his wounds healed, his mortal body grew stronger.

Luo Fan believed that in a terror world such as this, this brutal quenching method was nothing.

Blood still flowing, he continued flying upward.

He had not forgotten his original intention.

But the higher he rose, the stronger the onslaught became.

The mysterious energy inside him was only able to keep up reluctantly.

Enough, at least, to prevent him from becoming a fog of blood.

So, Luo Fan's pace grew slower and slower the farther he traveled.

Then, in the blink of an eye, a half year had gone by.

Luo Fan found himself staring into a terrifying gap.

It was as if an immense strength had torn the heavens in half.

This gap, however, was not the first one he had encountered.

Every great distance (1000 miles) traveled, another gap would appear, creating layers in the elemental stratum that were quite similar to checkpoints.

For each one he passed, the might of the attacks would increase.

As a result, Luo Fan's physical strength had more than doubled.

But at the same time, the repair rate of his body had also slowed down.

If Luo Fan were to pass this gap and go into the next layer, the pressure would most likely change him into meat paste.

So, Luo Fan made the very sane decision to stop.

He would wait until his physical strength had become strong enough to withstand the next layer.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Over the last hundred years, Luo Fan had quietly withstood the invincible might of every kind of malevolent wind, heavenly and divine thunder, and mortal and divine fire.

At the same time, he had also observed Mount Buzhou and its immeasurable aura.

Luo Fan shook his head, forcing a weary smile.

He had hoped that while tempering his body he would comprehend the breakthrough turning point.

But, he still had not taken that final step.

Even after a hundred years, he had made little progress.

One could even say…

He had made no progress at all.

Chapter 8 Astral Wind, Thunder, and Fire: Mortal Body Tempering (3)

"Too weak!"

Luo Fan stared with indifference at the endless tidal waves of surging energy crashing against him.

After a hundred years, his physique had more than doubled in strength.

Luo Fan looked up, eyes reflecting a little anticipation.

He could continue onward.

He wondered what kind of world he would soon be entering.

Were the elements stronger?

In preparation, he circulated the mysterious energy in vivo.

Then, his limbs moved.

Slowly moving upward, he stepped on the void.

However, the moment he bridged the gap, everything seemed to stop.

Relaxed and comfortable.

The elements that had been shelling his body for hundreds of years had vanished.

"This is…incredible…"

Luo Fan looked around, eyes glittering with shock.

This layer of the elemental stratum was empty!

No thunder…

No wind…

No fire…

Only the sky, filled with clouds like sailing mountains, possessed depth.

So colorful and gorgeous.

Luo Fan sighed with wonder.

It was as if he had entered the kind of paradise only spoken about in fairy tales.

"Danger!"

All of a sudden, an ominous warning emerged in his heart.

Then, he saw it.

A kilometer away, a fiery-red cloud streaked with blue and purple was racing towards him.

"Hum…"

A strange cry, like the screams of countless ghosts, spread from its body.

Moments later, it was beside him.

However, Luo Fan wanted to see what this little tri-color cloud wished to do, so he let it crash into his body instead of moving aside.

The moment it swallowed his body, Luo Fan realized it wasn't an ordinary cloud.

In fact, it didn't feel like one at all.

Rather, it felt like jello, pliable but hard to break.

Once inside, he no longer had any doubts.

This was not like the clouds on Earth.

It was something else; something born of fire and thunder —

"Bang!"

Suddenly an unimaginable destructive energy burst out of it.

Thunder and fire instantly penetrated his body, attacking his flesh and blood.

Severely wounded!

Merely one attack had made Luo Fan lose almost all of his strength.

"Boom!"

As blood spurted from his seven orifices, the attacks continued.

Luo Fan smiled reluctantly as he hastily tried to revolve the mysterious energy in vivo.

He knew he had been rash.

The destruction speed was several times faster than his regenerative ability.

"Ka cha!"

Another 1 percent of his body had been stripped of flesh and blood.

Luo Fan's heart trembled.

He knew if he stayed inside any longer, he would die!

Even in this situation though, Luo Fan's will remained steady.

Luo Fan gathered strength into his limbs.

Then, the auspicious cloud underneath him gave birth to a huge thrust force, projecting him outside of that strange cloud.

Relaxed and comfortable.

The moment he was free, the wild bombardments stopped, allowing him to heal.

However, that cloud had not actually planned on letting him off.

"Bang! Bang!'

Luo Fan knew the terrible energy hidden inside that cloud and he didn't intend on experiencing it again.

His body turned into a grayish light as he moved above, escaping its strike.

Soon, an endless game of cat and mouse had begun.

Attack, dodge, attack, dodge.

Although the cloud was fast, it wasn't very flexible.

Luo Fan could hardly believe how easy it was.

As they wandered about, cat chasing mouse, Luo Fan came to realize that this cloud was a rather primitive life.

It was an existence of thoughtless faculty with only the basest of instincts.

 "Unbelievable!"

This was Luo Fan's only thought.

With his eyesight, it clear that all the other clouds in this space were not a race born to flesh and blood.

But something born to wind, thunder, and fire.

Simple energy constructs with low levels of instinctual awareness.

It was beyond inconceivable.

As he continued to tease that little cloud, a bigger, more condensed cloud drew near.

"Rumblee-grummblee-"

Luo Fan's eyes widened with sudden shock.

The bigger cloud had begun swallowing his little playmate.

It never even stood a chance.

Then, moments later, the situation recurred, only this time, that bigger cloud was eaten by an even bigger one.

It never stood a chance.

After witnessing the clouds devour one another, Luo Fan decided to test something.

He began shuttling through space, scattering the clouds into their most basic forms—wind, thunder, and fire—watching as their remnants were swallowed.

He was learning how to distinguish the weak ones from the strong.

After several trials, he picked one of the smaller clouds and drilled into it.

Although, this cloud was made up of more than a dozen wind types and more than 30 fire types, its strength was rather average among the bunch.

But it was suitable enough for body tempering.

Sure enough, the destruction rate and the repair speed were basically the same.

The perfect condition.

After a half year, the cloud could no longer wound his body.

So he jumped out, and as he did, it scattered into countless fragments.
