Death's Scythe Chapter 16: [ Spies ]

Leo woke up to see his sister opposite to him on the table . He smiled as he patted her head . He shook his head and directly left through the window .

He sat on the roof of the hotel and sighed ' Even the association isn't safe . I thought they will protect her , but it seems they don't view us in good light .'

He spotted a person staring at the window he just came out of with binoculars . He could look that far easily . He was just sitting there , supporting his body with his hands as he stared at the man .

' He's a magician . ' He thought . ' Magic tower ?' His thoughts directly went to the heroes association . ' No , there are heroes that are employed by the rulers too . ' He said as he looked at the insignia on the man's robe .

' Probably right . ' He squinted his eyes and focused on his Mana level . ' Middle-Intermediate . He isn't a monster . I can't deal with him right now .' He thought .

Humans had much more intelligence than simple monsters or even bosses . It was only natural that a monster would be dumb enough to fall for simple tricks , but with humans it was a completely different case . ' There might be more around .' He thought as he looked around .

The one staring at the window was roughly a kilometre away from them . ' Let's see ' He turned his head to look all around himself . ' 1 in my north , 2 south and 1 one each on East and West .' He stood up and looked at the ones behind him , that were looking directly at him . ' That one seems to be the boss .' He manifested his wings and flew in the air .

The man that was looking at him was surprised , but then he smiled and said to the man beside him " Tell them to come back . The target is coming straight to us . " The man nodded and said some undecipherable words in his microphone attached to his collar .

The sound of wind being displaced was heard as Leo landed behind the man who seemed to be the one in command . " What do you want from my sister and I ?" He said straightforwardly . " You are a high rank hero . You could've directly killed us if you wanted , but it seems you have some other motive ." He said as his eyes shined with a golden light .

Leo folded his wings back inside of him and stood against a wall . The man seemed to be intrigued with his behavior as he asked " You aren't scared ?" as he smiled .

" I don't have the strength to fight , nor do I want to leave my sister and run away . What other choice have you left me ? There are 3 more of you who must be coming here right now . I want you to spare my time . I need to look for Dungeons to sweep ." He said as he took out his card and played around with it .

The man stared at his hands and said " I can see you don't trust the association as much as the other heroes ."

" Everyone believes in self-preservation ." He smiled in self-ridicule as he said " The empire is after us . I can't believe they will risk going to war with it for just 2 low level heroes . It's either I become significant or run from the both of them ."

" Hmmm ..." The man thought for a while and said " I am in charge of monitoring low tier heroes in Ziega . I just wanted to know what you wanted here . If that is all you want we might not meet again . Just make sure not to cause too much trouble ."

Leo looked at him and nodded , then simply manifested his wings again and flew away as he said " I'll keep it in mind ."

The man just smiled and said to the other man " Tell them to stop observing him . He seems to be fine . Just to make sure , make someone with invisibility tail his movements for a few days ."

The other man nodded and said once more in the same code as he nodded his head once .

" I'll be taking your Identity card for a minute . If you need to cancel this reservation , you can come back here at any time . The dungeon you just reserved is a wood element based dungeon . Fire magic would be extremely helpful ." Said a lady at the reception as she smiled at Leo . " The dungeon will reset tomorrow morning after 7 . You are extremely lucky . This one resets only once every month and has about 12000 monster in it . This is a very high number for an upper-intermediate tier dungeon ." She said with a smile .

Leo looked at her with an annoyed face and said " I waited for the whole day , just for this 5 minute long process ?" He was extremely annoyed . He had reached the mayor's office at 9 in the morning , exactly an hour after it opened , but he was made to sit for another 7 hours .

[ Time : 1626 ]

' I'm gonna kill them if I see those people again .' He thought as his Mana unintentionally leaked out .

" Stop it , boy . Your Mana is strange ." The lady said as she covered her mouth and laughed . " You got so angry because of waiting ?"

He looked at her and shook his head " No , I just remembered the people because of who I arrived here late ."

The lady giggled and said " You can vent in the dungeon tomorrow . Don't make things difficult for me . I don't want the in-charges in the mayor's office . He blames it on me for not monitoring the heroes properly ."

Leo looked at her and took his card she had put on the table " Sorry . I'll be back soon . I might want to go for another dungeon really soon . " He said as he smiled and left .

He stopped at the gate and looked at the wall which had the benches for a short while and thought something , then said to himself in a low voice " Nah , none of them had such good camouflage ." and just smiled and walked away .

The lady stared at where he departed for a while and said as she looked at the benches " He knew you were there . " She stopped a little before she said " The whole time ."

" I noticed ." A man appeared sitting on the bench and slouched down as he said " He discovered me as soon as he entered . He must've thought I can't do anything to him ."

" You probably couldn't have ." She said " He had his eyes on you the entire time . He knew exactly where you were ."

He sighed and said " I have tricked supreme tier heroes who passed through here before . Why can't I trick either of them ." as he smiled in self-ridicule " Both of them are just intermediate tier and the brother is weaker , even . Yet , I can't seem to trick them at all ."

" You went after the sister ? " The lady was surprised .

The man looked at her and replied " She discovered me when her brother was dragging her around to look for a hotel . She seemed to always stare at me as she was getting pulled ."

" They are both extremely strange . The girl is supposed to be a support type hero , but her points are just a little less than her brother's . And the worst part is , they are from the empire . If they are with the empire , they would probably make a wrong move . We just can't seem to get around to seeing it ."

" Continue your work . He said he'll come again . If he asks I'll just say you are required to be here ." The lady smiled as the man vanished .
