Chapter 14- The Importance of Arm Length in Surgery

The hunting team stopped at the entrance to the tribe.

The formation changed and the troops at the very front stepped aside and created a passageway.

The chief standing at the front of the plaza waved his hand. Earlier, they had already prepared for tribe slaves and a few warriors to hurry and run into the gap. The soldiers were responsible for supervising while the slaves were responsible for carrying the already dead or salted meat into the middle of the grass barn.

Yan Mo realized that the straw barn was right next to the straw barn he was in last time. It looked like temporary newly built barn.

But why would they specifically make a barn to place all the dead animals and marinated meat?

Yan Mo looked up at the sky and  saw the party that followed the hunting team fly over. Spiraling around the camp at a high altitude were condor-like birds. Was that the reason?

The chief raised his hand again. This time another group of slaves ran into the opening, driving out the captured and non seriously injured prey. They drove them down a slope into a large pit below the square. After all the animals entered, the slaves pushed a boulder to the slope, blocking only the gap.

Last time, because Yan Mo was being carried under someone's arm, his view was not right and did not see the large pit.

There was still some prey in the middle of the troops, most of these prey were seriously injured and they also seemed much more threatening.

Yan Mo guessed that all the animals rushed into the pit must be herbivores, otherwise they would not be able to put them together. The remaining prey were carnivorous animals. Don't know how these prey will be dealt with? Would they be shut in the barn he was in last time?

The question right now was not if they could shut it in or not, but would they eve fit? Yan Mo looked at the middle of the enormous crowd. Ghastly appearance, a creature on the verge of death; felt that his own worldview was overturned.

The forehead of this huge creature had a frightening curved horn. It actually had five tails!

"Oh, they actually caught an adult Zheng beast, amazing!" Yuan Shan opened his mouth and sighed.

"The harvest this time really is pretty good!" Yuan Diao said.

"It's about to begin." Yuan Shan's voice held a bit of excitement.

About to start what? Yan Mo guessed, celebration?

The center of the plaza was cleared away for a big open space. The slaves brought over lots of firewood, weeds, etc… At the same time they also cleaned the twenty- something fire pits, refilled with new firewood, and put up a rack. The prey was processed in batches to hand out. There were several injured beasts still in the middle and the originally solemn and quiet hunting team's expressions also changed, becoming excited and expecting.

The formation of the team changed again. This time all the warriors faced the beast in the middle and formed a circle. The chief, who was in the prime of his life, also lifted his own spear and entered the middle of the circle.

Yan Mo looked at Cao Ting

Cao Ting, with her complexion crimson red, explained in a low voice, "We are about to have the Blood Ceremony. Everytime the hunting team comes back we will have this kind of ceremony. In the innermost circle are the Rank 3 warriors and the Rank 2 warriors that performed the best during the hunt, the other rank two warriors are in the outer ring."

"Then the Rank 1 warriors…."

"Their ability does not qualify to participate in this kind of hunt, this is the biggest hunt before the winter. After this hunt, winter will come."

Yan Mo did not understand why Cao Ting's face was red. When talking about winter, the face becomes ugly. At this time he did not understand the power of the winters here, only thinking it was like winters in his home world and even ignored this body's memories.

Suddenly, thunder-like noises exploded next to everybody's ears.

"Huo! Huo! Huo!" (1)

With the trembling of feet on the ground, Yan Mo suddenly lifted his head and saw many of the warrior's spears tossed on the ground, a rhythmic low and deep shout left their mouths.

The encirclement shrunk a bit. The beasts that were encircled felt a sense of threat, but their serious injuries made them unable to resist, could only let out a threatening roar and small attacks.

The encirclement got smaller and smaller until finally!

The chief lifted his spear and was the first to stab his spear into the Zheng beast's neck.

Yan Mo heard a shrill roar that sounded like stones striking.

The spear was pulled out and blood began to spill out.

The chief did not shy away and his entire face was sprayed by blood.

"Ao Ao Ao—–!" (2) The Yuan Ji tribe all roared.

All the warriors held up their spears and let out roars that shook the heavens.

The vultures in the sky were all scared away, the ones who refused to leave simply flew further and higher.

Yan Mo thought in this kind of public excitement, keeping calm was impossible. Just like Cao Ting and Wen Sheng, he raised his arm, just didn’t shout together with them.

The Chief retreated and an imposing warrior with abnormally large muscles stepped forward. Pulling out a stone knife, he cut a line in the beast's neck.

The beast let out its final scream and a large amount of blood sprayed everywhere.

This blood leaking was not wasted. From who-knows-where, a stone jar was placed under the head to catch all the blood.

"That is Master Zheng!" Cao Ting had a hard time covering up her excitement. "He is the most powerful warrior in the tribe besides the Chief, many people say that is the most promising to promote to Rank 4 in two years!"

The man with the same name as the Zheng beast drank his last mouthful of blood. His face then became strict and he turned and walked towards the crowd.  

"It’s going to begin…" Cao Ting's face was extremely red.

Begin what? This time Yan Mo did not need to ask again because he already saw. The man who drank the blood approached the priest and elders, caught a women from the crowd, pulled her to a side, pushed her down and got on top.

The crowd cheered again. It seemed Zheng acting this way not only appropriate but also received encouragement.

"That's Master Zheng's wife." Cao Ting said in a low voice.

That women also started to let out a piercing scream, but it didn’t seem like it was from pain.

If there was one then there were two. Those warriors that delivered the bleeding beast, after drinking a mouthful of the blood, had a different kind of ferociousness and charged into the crowd.  

Full of fatigue and tension, after an exciting hunt, the majority of the warriors all yearned to obtain release. Only in this way could they determine they truely survived and returned back to the tribe and their loved ones.

After releasing could they feel safe and comfortably rest. Right now this was the last Hunting Carnival of the season!

Yuan Zhan stood at the inner circle, he was one of the few Rank 2 warriors who could stand inside.

He and the other Rank 2 warriors could not begin until all the Rank 3 warriors finished drinking blood. There were not many living animals left in the plaza. After the Zheng beast, there were two more that was just as large. All the fierce and malicious beasts were killed.

Yuan Zhan had settled on a GuDiao(3). This venomous vulture resembled a half bird half beast. It's cry was like the wailing of an infant, the back had black spots and the head had a forked horn. It liked to eat people and could briefly fly, making it difficult to catch.

This GuDiao was one he single handedly caught. This was something even Rank 3 Warriors had a hard time doing. He wanted to personally kill this vulture and drink its blood. No one objected except for one person.

A stone knife was swiftly headed to the vulture's neck.

A spear quickly stopped it.

Yuan Zhan coldly looked at Yuan Bing who was also trying to snatch the vulture, "This is mine, beat it!"

"Da Zhan, are you still able to fight right now?" Yuan Bing deliberately kicked Yuan Zhan's left leg.

"You watch if I can or not!" Yuan Zhan lifted his left leg and smashed it against Yuan Bing's right leg that he used to kick him.

Yuan Zhan did not move from his spot but Yuan Bing was pushed back two steps.

"You!" Yuan Bing unbelievably stared at Yuan Zhan's left leg. He clearly saw Yuan Zhan last night painfully and secretly rub his left leg, thought he had a relapse of an old injury.

Yuan Zhan lifted a hand, wielding his spear he created a welt across Yuan Bing's face.

Yuan Bing touched his face, with violent howl he charged at Yuan Zhan intending to fight to the death. He was a Rank 3 warrior, to actually be wounded by Yuan Zhan, this was an insult to him and a challenge!

Yuan Zhan cracked into a smile. With with his face scar and tattoo, if expression needed to turn vicious then it would turn vicious. His eyes depicted his murderous intent.

Yuan Bing was held back by two Rank 3 warriors, one of them yelled in his ear. "Calm down a bit, everytime Da Zhan comes back from a hunt he'll be insane for a few days. Just look at his eyes, he doesn't think you're a Rank 3 warrior at the moment, if he did then he would not dare to kill you! Or do you still plan to kill him?"

The other person also shouted, "Why did you provoke him? That vulture was originally single handedly caught by him, if you want it then go hunt one yourself. Damn it, if you have so much strength then go fuck your slave!"

Yuan Bing was dragged off by the two other people.

Yuan Zhan looked straight at Yuan Bing then silently stuck his spear into the ground. He walked to the front of his fearful vulture, stepped on its body and grabbed its neck. Didn't matter how miserable and ugly the screeches from the vulture was, he lowered his head, opened his mouth and bit down. Using his strength to rip it apart, he actually managed to tear a hole in the neck of the vulture.

Yuan Bing's gaze contracted. Cursing under his breath, he threw off the two Rank 3 warriors. In fact, he already drank animal blood, he just wanted to make trouble for Yuan Zhan. He and Yuan Zhan had always been rivals. At the time he rose to Rank 3, Yuan Zhan, because of a severe injury had no choice but to stay in Rank 2. He felt that he already surpassed that person, but in actuality…… that damn guy up to now still had not showed him proper respect.

"Pah!" Spitting out the piece of skin, Yuan Zhan bit into the Vulture's neck, gulping down its blood. When he knew he drank enough, he handed it over to the next Rank 2.

Wiping his lips, the blood had smeared across half his face. Yuan Zhan pulled out his spear and began to walk inside the tribe. He looked very calm on the surface, but his excited eyes betrayed him, not to mention his pace was getting heavier and faster. He wanted to return to his own tent, he had a slave now, he doesn't have to endure anymore!

Yan Mo saw Yuan Zhan.

Right now the plaza was in disarray. The influence of receiving those frenzied warriors craving release caused the entire plaza to look like it was about to enter Judgement Day. There were people everywhere rolling around together. The pairs were normal. But threesomes and foursomes were not infrequent.

Yan Mo instinctively felt threatened. He wanted to leave the plaza, however Cao Ting and Wen Sheng who were by his side were pulled off to a side by their owners.

He Tu wanted to help him leave, but when she saw Yuan Zhan, she happily waved and shouted, "Da Zhan, we're over here!"

Yan Mo…… really wanted to get something to block this woman's mouth!

Yuan Zhan turned around and saw the youth near He Tu.

Yan Mo saw his expression in his eyes and felt his chrysanthemum(4) tighten—- These words were definitely not descriptive words.

The more Yuan Zhan walked the faster he got. Yan Mo did not feel reassured. Feeling that feigning his leg injury would not work in this situation, he pushed He Tu aside and planned to flee. At the moment he was about to turn and flee, he discovered something unusual. His gaze fell on Yuan Zhan's left leg, this person……

It was precisely this moment of hesitation that Yan Mo missed his best chance to escape. In fact even if he really did run, would not be able to get far.

He Tu watched as Yuan Zhan grabbed Yan Mo, immediately smiled and brought her two children to the firepit in the plaza to help. Before she left, she still called out to Yuan Zhan, "When you’re done being satisfied, remember to go with Da Shan to get my husband and bring him over to eat meat! Don't forget!"

When Yan Mo was released, his hand already had a golden needle in it.

But just when he was ready to catch him off guard, Da Shan on the other side, unexpectedly held onto Wen Sheng and moved right next to them. "Let’s go together! I'll watch you guys do it."

….. In a split second, Yan Mo in his heart exploded out countless obscenities! Fixing his stare on him, he'd go up to heaven or down to Hades to curse the panting Dan Zhan who embraced his slave (5). His sinister and viciousness was unfit for the language to express.

Yuan Zhan originally did not plan to let the youth slip away. He was also worried that the youth's injuries were not recovering well or simple became more serious, making him continue to hold back. Right now, to his surprise he saw that the teen already recovered enough to come to the plaza and watch the excitement. How could he still let him slip by?

In addition to the stimulating surroundings, Da Shan and Wen Sheng did not even bother to conceal their wanton arousal, and with Da Shan peeping at his slave with burning eyes, it caused an even more serious incentive.

Da Shan right next to him gave off an extremely excited shout. The man laying on top of him had sweat dripping off his body.

He actually had an opportunity to bully this guy with a needle, but he figured out that the people here had no concept of loyalty. Look at the expression of Da Shan, if Yuan Zhan fainted on his body, he would definitely have the "need to shed energy" Yuan Zhan and drag him to a side. Change it up and press him down instead.

Even if he set free Da Shan, what about other people? There were many mates and warriors with slaves here. Those people would share a slave with their good younger brothers (6). Once he had no protection from his owner or owner's friends, his fate by no means was any better then the tribe slaves.

Yan Mo ah Yan Mo, this is no longer the civil society that you are used to. This was a whole different world: uncivilized, brutal, and direct. If you want to live in this world, if you wish to give yourself and your child that may or may not arrive here, create a good environment. You have to become even more powerful, you must….. first learn to be patient.

Patience, isn't this something you learn early on?

There is nothing that cannot be solved with patience, nothing at all.

Lastly, Yan Mo distractedly thought: Perhaps afterwards I need to sew myself up, but what do I do if my arms aren’t long enough?

Huo: this is just a sound effect/shouting sound. Ao: Another sound effect GuDiao: a Chinese mythology beast. Translates to Venomous Vulture. There are many different depictions of this creature so I found one that looked like the one described in this novel. Chrysanthemum: slang term for anus Up to Heaven or Down to Hades: to go to great lengths Younger Brother (XiongDi): They're not actually blood related. In China, XiongDi is also a term for men who are younger than you. People will also refer to their friends as "brothers".

T/N: This took a bit to translate but it was exciting. I've realized a lot of the animals in this world are mythical beings so I'll try my best to find info on them. If in the future there are too many animals to remember, I'll create a Bestiary Page. I posted a picture of the GuDiao that was described in the novel, but here’s another depiction of it.

On another note, do you guys read on your computer or mobile more? I usually read on my mobile but not sure for others. I'm asking because I realized that while my website looks ok on PC, the words are extremely huge (on my phone anyways) on mobile so trying to make it a bit more pleasing. If there are any suggestions, feel free to pitch them to me!
